That's actually pretty funny. It's dumb that it's considered wrong to say that word when that was the word that was originally invented to refer to mentally handicapped. In about 10 more years people will cringe when someone says mentally handicapped so someone will have to come up with a new term that will be acceptable for the next 20 years or so.

There's lots of words people used to use that are no longer acceptable and while I agree with you that things are out of hand in our PC little world, if a person, group, race is offended by a word, I stop using it cause than I'm just an a-hole. I was brought up and used that word all the time and now I'm adult and realize it's not a good word. To each their own, but that word isn't acceptable in society any more just like calling someone a name for their sexuality or skin color.

It isn't a word itself that is demeaning. It is the manner in which it is used that is demeaning. Since that was the word that is used, and it has been used for decades as a put down and insult, the word itself has taken on the nastiness of the meaning it was used as.

So while I agree, we all know that some words were used for so long in such a derogatory and hurtful way meant to say one is lessor if one is one of these (insert hurtful word). It is more about getting rid of the put down, and saying it isn't ok to say that one is less than by saying the are X or Y.

Make sense? I'm the last to be PC, heck if you wanna tell me to **** off, then tell me to **** off. I just think it is small minded to try to put someone down by equating them to a group.....I think that shows your mentality and that you think the group is lessor, or not worthy. Like when I want to bash 56 for instance, I call him a Clown troll (one of the worse things you can be). So my view of Clown trolls is obviously one of being lessor........Lightnings view of the mentally handicapped is they are lessor, and that the person he called that is lessor also.
 
Sorry - I'm honestly not trying to be a wet blanket - i love name calling as much as the next guy, I love to call you guys jerks and creeps haha. But when I see something like that I'm gonna call him on it.

Stewardess and waiteress are two other words that are unacceptable now.

Words become slang words and take on a different meaning over time. People should be smart enough to know if someone is simply using a slang word or making fun of the handicapped. Unfortunately, there are so many people that are uncapable of distinguishing the two that we have to coddle to people's needs or come off as jerks. I don't say words like that in big crowds, but around like minded friends I do and see no harm in it.
