I like JaBo... but we still need another ball handler
I don't think he sucks. He's a great 3 point shooter and is great at racking up unimpressive assists
I guess I'm old school when it comes to assists. If your basketball IQ is high enough that you:
a) know who the open teammate isor
b) know who the teammate is that will work their way openor
c) know the oponent well enough to know who is going to be/going to work their way openAND you get them the ball AND they score, well, that's an assist because you know your teammates well enough to get the ball into the right hands. Good, bad, or mediocure .. it counts. Period. End of sentence.
Just my 2¢ .. .. GO HAWKS!!!
I guess that's my point. In baseball, it doesn't matter whether or not it's a Texas Leager, a bunt single, or a line drive. A hit is a hit is a hit. In basketball, it's the same. If you hit a 15 footer or a layup or a slam dunk, it's 2 points. If your basketball IQ is high enough, you get the assist. They all count in the stat book but that doesn't mean you can't look at more than stats to base an opinion on someone.

I'll take 10 "unimpressive" assists over 5 "impressive" assists any day. It means your basketball IQ is higher. It doesn't matter what it looks like on the court, It counts the same.

We'll have to agree to disagree as it doesn't matter. Both are assists, as the basket was scored. But would you take 10 impressive assists over 10 unimpressive ones? And would you rather have a guy that is capable of getting 10 dunks a game over a guy capable of getting 10 open jumpers a game? Dunks go in at a higher clip so a dunk and a mid range shot only count the same if they both go in.

Here's what Iowa's lineup should look like going into the conference games: JBo, Moss, Nunge, Cook, Garza. Bench: and in no certain order - Baer, Kriener, Ellingston, Uhl, Pemsl, Wagner, Dailey, Williams. Unless there's an unforeseen injury that shows it's ugly head during the non-conference schedule or during the season, this starting lineup will give Iowa it's best chance to compete and succeed in the Big Ten. Coach Fran's major priority during the next 5 months is to develop a team that takes pride in playing defense, build team unity, and put the players in the best position to compete and succeed. Coach will indeed play the entire roster during each game as he has in the past and Iowa will again lose games because of that, but it's how coach keeps those loses to a minimum that will define the upcoming season....
As I said, I'm old school. I want to know how many times a player was intelligent enough to get the ball into the right teammates hands so that a basket was scored. Whether that's a 24 footer for 3, a 15 footer for 2, or a slam dunk for 2-and-1. That's an assist. You really need to put more thought into this whole thing Brew. Sometimes the shooter creates the play and sometime the passer creates the play. When discussing how good a passer is, I want to know how nanny plays he created. Not how many plays he was the beneficiary of a good shot.
Me too. Extremely impressed with both he and Nunge
Garza looks quite a bit more athletic than I expected.
If Cook can get up around 5 3s per game and maintain his PTL average, that would be good.
He did? He averaged 25 ppg as a senior in high school, what did he average as a junior?
