Pat Ingram commits to Iowa

Apparently Ingram was the best on-ball defender that McCaffery saw this summer.

This kid reminds me of a Mike Henderson.

Everything I've read about him raves about two things. His defense and his ability to get to, and finish at, the rim. And for anyone wondering, he can finish easily above the rim. I've read freakish athleticism multiple times from numerous sources who have seen him. The video I've seen backs that up.

I agree. If somehow Fran pulled in Woodbury and then West Va Prep school teammates Lee and Macon....stop the presses, balanced classes mean nothing to me in that case. It would be winning time!
Macon is an absolute monster on that video...a combo of Buck Williams with a Rasheed Wallace jump shot.

Exactly. I'm all for banking a scholarship or two. But, if you have the chance to build a class with those three guys, four counting Gesell, you get them, even if the classes aren't balanced. If Iowa was coming off two Big Ten championships in three or four years, I'd rather have the balanced classes. Considering where they are, and have been, I want talent, I don't care what class they are in.

I didn't see anyone answer this. That I can find, verifying is another matter, the following all have offers from Iowa.

Adam Woodbury - C
Elijah Macon - PF
Ray Lee - PG
Ka'Darryl Bell - PG
Phil Forte - PG
Jelon Hornbreak - SG
Gavin Thurmond - SF
Jake Layman - SF
DeJuan Marrero - SF
Elijah Macon - PF
Prince Ibeh - C

Also, I've read that Trey Dickerson - PG has one, but haven't seen anything to verify that.

As for your other question, adding Woodbury would make this a very good class. Adding him and Lee would be borderline top 25 class. Adding Woody and Macon would probably be a top 20 class. If they were to somehow get Woodbury, Macon and Lee to commit, I wouldn't care at all about how balanced the classes were, I'll take a top 15-20 class, even with 6 FR. Now, I doubt that will happen, it's not likely, but it's certainly possible.

THREE SCHOLARSHIPS LEFT TO FILL...

Stormin, have you heard anything on Thurman lately? I know the staff likes their chances with him but I haven't heard much about him for a while.

If role players who struggle with shooting excite you then go crazy
. He does fill the huge need in adding back court athleticism to the class.

I am still hoping Fran gets a water bug point guard, because once Cartwright leaves the point position will be in the lower half of the Big Ten in regards to athleticism again.

I love this momentum though. Man it feels good to here yes every once in awhile. Fran still needs to get the big one though to get it into high gear.

Wow, this just makes me feel warm and tingly and full of confidence in this recruit. Plus the list of other schools is hardly overwhelming.

Still, we all know about Fran's eye for talent so I'm board with it. Hopefully it works out.

Great, great day for Hawkeye hoops fans. Very good kid, very good program, wonderful job by Fran and his staff.

Seriously? We just landed a 4 star PG recruit and you want to throw **** at the walls?

What would you like to see? Who would you like to add? Who do you think is interested in going to a program that has just been through the 10 worst years for as long as anybody can remember? Enjoy the ride.

Well said. We're not going to get elite players at every freaking position. Role players are important to every team. And I still can't understand why anyone would be down on a 3 star prospect anyway. Also, Ingram brings something to Iowa that we don't have a lot of right now. Someone who can penetrate and play above the rim, as well as hit the open J. He needs to work on the left hand and I'm sure the staff has enforced that point with him. This commitment also allows our staff to kind of sit back and go after some highly touted guys and not have to be in scramble mode if they fail.

We got a good one boys. Try and enjoy it.

Glad you said it Jay, I don't want to be accused of raining on the parade. This kid is a nice athlete with a good motor. But, while he does have talent.....he isn't very skilled. Not much of a shooter, below average ball-handler and will have some trouble trying to guard the 2 position. I think he may have better success against point guards defensively. he's raw and will require time. He's really more of a MAC level player and I'm surprised the Hawks took him at this stage.

Are you serious. Trouble guarding a 2 guard? Fran said he's the best on ball defender he seen. At 6'3", I hardly doubt he would have trouble guarding a two guard. How many times have you seen him play? Serious question, as your breakdown makes me think you must have seen him play multiple times.

Yes. Well as serious as one is when talking recruiting on a message board.
On ball defender in this case means the primary ball-handler.......mostly a PG. His size is the issue with guarding the 2 or sometimes the 3 if a team is playing 3 guard 'types'. Yes, I have seen him play. Or, I should say I was watching a game he played in while sitting with someone who was there evaluating as part of his profession. Perhaps even a second time but I'm not sure. He's raw, very, very raw in my opinion. By the time he has a couple years in the program he will be a contributor. You don't have to like anything I write, just giving my opinion.
I think that after the July evaluation period that the offer list really does say something about what level the kid should play at.

Well considering the Hawks haven't played at the top of the MAC level in years I will be more willing to reserve judgment at anyone we bring in who is a "nice athlete with a good motor" until he has actually hit the floor and played a year.

I am not sure why I even waste time trying to discuss things with you here. I am very happy about Gessel and haven't said a bad thing about him. Someone asked about him and I told him the description. I am happy to finally have a player who can attack the rim and play perimeter defense. It is unreal how some people freak out on anyone who is not blindly happy with everything.

Who said they were mad about getting this nice niche player? No one.

If we were getting this kid in the late signing period, I could understand the concern. Why people would doubt Caff at this point is baffling to me though.

On a side note, it's nice to get our foot into the door of North Central. They have multiple D1 players every year.

You are not allowed to have a differing opinion! I don't care if you are the only one who has actually seen him play. I watched a highlight tape and he never missed and can dunk. That means that you are wrong and a negative nancy to boot.

In all seriousness, thanks for your input. Sounds a lot like Washpun who could use a year to redshirt. That is also a good point on how he went through the big eval period with no additional offers. That said, Fran has had a good record of finding the guys under the radar so far.
