Pat Ingram commits to Iowa

Who said they were mad about getting this nice niche player? No one.

No one said they were mad....including me.

If ya look at all of the Hawkeye boards, I think you see similar things as this one. Some are excited about the pickup, others seem to wonder how it fits in with our grand plan considering the other offers that we have out there right now. I can see the points on both sides. My only point is that I like the Ingram pickup because it fills a need and allows us to pursue some higher targets without scrambling towards the end.

There is no doubt about Ingram being able to play very good defense. Don't see a lot of D on YouTube highlight clips, but what I saw convinced me that Pat will fit nicely in Fran's press and half court trap. He is going to create trouble for the opponents bringing the ball upcourt and will get more than his fair share of steals.

He certainly appears to be very quick, athletic, and has no hesitation taking the ball to the basket. I also like the fact that he doesn't feel the need to stuff the ball every time he is close to the basket. He simply finishes the play with a basket. He certainly seems to be the type of player Fran wants to play his uptempo style, in which defense is perhaps the main strength, leading to disruption of play, causing turnovers and steals leading to easy baskets sometimes in bunches ala Mr. Davis's better teams.

Pat is a steal in my opinion, Fran saw the potential, and beat other schools to the punch.

If the level of talent is sufficiently high, I don't think you worry about having "balanced" classes. While I think Fran will slow the rate of transfers of key players, you can realistically expect that Iowa, like virtually every D1 program, will experience attrition due to transfer, academics, injury, personal issues, early departure to the NBA (we can only hope ...)

Fill all schollies with players you think will compete at the level you expect and deal with any departures as they come.

I love how people look at a players other offers and judge his talent based off that.

how else are u to judge his talent then? your own expert analysis of a 2 minute highlight tape?

you can look at the #'s instead. which are an unranked recruit, who isnt even the best player on his team, who averaged 10 ppg last year. that's just about as impressive as the offers list.

We will have a nice 1-2-3 punch with Marble, Ogs, and Ingram, each player brings something different( Marble lenghth,Ingram slash, Ogs shooting) should compliment each other well, and both Marble and Ingram should be beast on the press!!

You mean like Melsohn and Aaron White.....

You do realize that Aaron White had offers from Boston College, Northwestern and Temple right? A little different than Loyola and St. Louis. And you also realize that Aaron White hasn't played a game yet so using him as an example is stupid.

Pat Ingram may be a stud for all we know, but looking at it realistically based on offers it's a poor pickup compared to what other schools are bringing in here in the Big 10. Does that mean everything? Of course not. But it does mean something. Teams that recruit better players win.

Perhaps you could teach Fran a thing or two about recruiting, especially in the area of analyzing one's potential. We could use your savvy.....
