Oliver Martin Transfer

For some reason I just don't see him coming to Iowa. It would be like if that neighbor girl you grew up with declared her love for you but you chased after the hot chick instead and she burned you. Can you really go back to the neighbor girl with your tail between your legs? Would the neighbor girl even want you back after you spurned her the first time?

Hope I'm wrong

I doubt he wants to come to Iowa but if he did we don't have to be unforgiving pr****s about it either. Kid was 18 and did what he thought was best for him at the time.

If he left Michigan because he realized how much he loves Iowa, then that's cool. If he's truly putting his name out there to see what else there is, then I don't want him (not that that matters). Being a fall back after what you really want doesn't work out is one thing. Being a fallback after you can't find anything better, after what you really want doesn't work out is another. That would be the point where my pride kicked in.

It doesn't matter either way. It's a talented WR from the state. He would have to pick up a mic and shout f**k Iowa for me to move on.

He will be a Hawk and fans love every kid that throws on that uniform and helmet and gives it their all. Those that don't get into trouble anyway. He will be fine here.

It sucked to have an elite in-state talent go to michigan and having that tool Harbaugh come in and rub it in everyone’s faces. I totally get it, but are we as a fanbase so snowflaky we can’t put that aside and cheer loudly for someone who could be a legit contributor? I mean, it’s not like he’s getting out of prison or he trashed the Iowa program after heading to Ann Arbor, he just went to Michigan and obviously he couldn’t match the elite talent of their top line players.

If he wants to come to Iowa, we’d be crazy to not welcome him in as fans. He might end up not planning out, so what?

Well like I said, if he came back now it would be great. If he looked around again (he probably wouldn't end up here anyway) then somehow miraculously ended up here, that's when I wouldn't really want him. It would really come off like he was finally giving up and settling. I also said I would get over it fast tho.

Doesn't matter, the protocol and process is the same.

I hope he ends up at Iowa. If he wants to see who else is interested, I got no problem with that either. After all of that, he wants to be at Iowa, then Iowa becomes a better team. If he wants to go somewhere else, then Iowa never had him, so there is no loss, just no addition. Easy calculation for the coaching staff.

Not to go all socialist here, but does anyone else find it disgusting that the NCAA lets the "profit" from these athletic departments slide right out the back door in terms of compensation to coaches and athletic directors? The NCAA should put a freaking $2 million cap on coach salaries and allow for some formulaic bonus strictly based on wins and APR or something. I think the DC at Clemson makes over $2 mil base now.

In the context of high-level CFB players still going unpaid players - yes, it's disgusting. But as for the "market" of college football - no. It is what it is. What's the $ these days for the Kinnick season ticket "donation", for season ticket holders to keep their place in the seat order? CFB is a big business.

Lol, you guys crack me up.

Let’s not kid ourselves we can use him even though he already has used us as a stepping stone to get to a place he thought had a better aerial assault.

Unfortunately for him unlike Iowa, Michigan can recruit receivers. He is like that 8.5 out of 10 girlfriend who is used to getting a lot of attention until she got to her first modeling job and then was surrounded by super models.

Their up on stage while she is in the back washing dishes. She checks out Iowa and sees a bunch of tweeners (6’s) and is thinking at least there she can serve drinks once in a while. Maybe even be asked to get on the stage to adjust the mike. :p

Just my two cents. If he realizes he should have been a Hawkeye all along then in that sense I'd probably be able to get around the fact he ended up at Michigan before he came to his senses. However if he's simply a matter of him not being able to get more playing time at Michigan and looking for a way out, I don't think I'd ever be on board. The nice part is, this has nothing to do with me and my opinion is absolute irrelevant.

From a 2016 article in Iowa City paper ...................

“The kid works his butt off,” said Marvin McNutt, Iowa’s all-time leading receiver and one of Martin’s personal coaches. “He literally will just keep going all day until the tank is empty.”

Kind of shoots down the theory the kid just wants stuff handed to him and doesn't work.
