Nate Meier new commit

I don't Think he's a fall back recruit. I think ferentz has known what he's had here for a long time with this kid. He offers 6 months ago and it gives other programs to get in there and see what he's all about. Heard from a coach on a staff that plays Iowa, if they see an instate kid they like, the first thing they do is see if Iowa offered. If not, they assume the prospect isn't worth looking at or there is something wrong with the prospect. Ferentz had this one in his back pocket keeping him on the down low.

yep.

no use putting up the 'here i am' flag for other schools to poach our identified sleeper.

herby - get a solid grip on the wheel. offering this kid has no bearing on a WR or OL recruit.

Reading posts from herbyhawk makes me happy that only a very, very small percentage of the Iowa fan base is represented by message boards.

Herby - if you read this - you are the village idiot of HawkeyeNation. Congrats.

Even ISU gets nervous when Ioaw doesn't offer Iowa kids. The ISU staff wonder what Iowa knew that they didnt about the Rogers kid from IC.

We can oversign by three. So we have four spots left if we wanna do so. My guess is Thomas comes, Kozan or Curry take a spot, JUCO RB counts towards last years class so he'll automatically have a spot if we or he chooses to take it, and we leave one open for lambert

U guys seriously believe this?

may look to walk-on at Nebraska to join his girlfriend

If he is that messed up in the head over a girl, that he would base his future on what she is doing, he wont make it anyway. I have personally seen that happen before, and it never ends up good. It has ruined more than one athletes future.
I like the story of an instate kid who works hard and all, but it is his story and the faster he figures that out the better.

Look, buddy, a lot of kids have their mind made up about their wife when they are 17 or 18 and being thrown in amongst all the little slam piece jersey chasers walking around a college campus never changes that. These guys who play 8 man football have their pick of at least 16 or so girls at their school.

I hope you really don't believe this....he is defiantly a fall back recruit.

Very good! Laughed so hard that I spit my coffee on the Sunday paper!!

Football recruiting is such an inexact science, I laugh when the recruiting fanatics go to great pains to label recruits, like it means something in the long haul. Go back and look at the last ten years recruiting lists and compare ''fallbacks'' to ''top of the list'' guys....there is such attrition in college football, that it is like throwing the dice at the casino. Was Brad Banks a topline guy? Total afterthought.

I just say,welcome aboard,Nate!!

This is the assumption of many iowa high school coaches and yes i think it os correct.

I've seen him play 3-4 times, including the state championship game this season, and he is the most impressive high school football player I've ever watched, and that includes the likes of Kyle Mccann and Brandon wegher. He's the real deal, and hopefully will be a great Hawkeye!!!! Congrats, Nate!!!!

Hawk Rationalization Syndrome (HRS) - if we land them they're good or "super sleepers", if we don't get them they're overrated or we we're after someone better.

We've been in fall back mode for quite some time now as we reach deeper into the cookie jar.

I'd like to have seen the stats Dwight, Banks, and Wegher would have put up in 8 man football. Hope Nate is as good as advertised.
Does anyone know if if the linebacker at Regina (Jacob Volstedt??) will be walking on at Iowa? He is about the same size and has just as much power/strength as Nate.
