Miller in full apologist mode on Twitter right now

Jon's analogy is a good one. I am satisfied. I don't think the preseason expectations were out of whack, and falling short of those is disappointing. Losses to NDSU and Northwestern were hard, and 4 weeks ago, I was ready to burn the whole place down, but the way the team responded these past 3 weeks, I ended up with a good feeling about this team. Adversity either builds character or destroys. The team chose the former - that makes for a good story. I think they'll keep it rolling into the bowl game, whoever they play.

I said in another post that you can be disappointed in a 8-4 seasons because expectations where high. Like I also said (to me) that doesn't mean that it was a bad season, just that expectations where high and weren't met. This season didn't meet my expectations, I still think it was a good season. If we win our bowl game it is boarderline great season.

10+ wins = Great season
8 or 9 wins = Good season
7 wins = completely average season
6 wins or less = unacceptable

Just my chart is all, you can have your won PC, it won't hurt my feelings at all. :)

This season was completely average with what Iowa had in players coming back. Say what you want but losing to NDSU and Northwestern at Kinnick solidified it being completely average. Iowa wins Bowl game okay I will say Good. To say it's borderline great is ridiculous in IMO! To each there own view but that's mine. The only thing great About the season has been the finish..

I'd rather win late than lose late.

The season has been a great fish dinner. Good by its own right.

But boy, how much better sirloin would have tasted.

Well it sure as hell ended a lot better than most of us thought it would 3 weeks ago. Doesn't excuse the bad losses but still, all things considered, they did rally quite impressively at the end.

Were you not entertained?

At long last, were you not entertained?

Important to put things into perspective.

I know many Ohio State fans who thought 2015 was a bummer season.

They went 13-1, with blowout wins vs Michigan and Notre Dame in a bowl game. Their one loss to MSU kept them out of the playoffs.

But, as compared to winning the NC the year before, 13-1 was not acceptable.

I guess after going 12-0 regular season and being 23 seconds from the playoffs in 2015, I can understand where Iowa fans think 8-4 with two wins over ranked teams at the end of the season can be a let down.

You mean you don't have enough intelligence? As in, "I'm not educated enough to convince others that two coaches with nearly identical career records are incomparable?"
If you don't take context into account, I don't think I'm the uneducated one here. Good grief, the stupid in this thread grows by the minute.

And I think it is funny that you don't know shit about college football. You wanna scream and shout that KF isn't any good because when he went undefeated in B1G play, but he did poorly at a Bowl Game??? Then when pointed out correctly that lots of B1G champs struggle in bowl games (used Hayden as an example) that you stick your head in the sand and somehow claim that a coach only sucks if it happens to KF, it is ok and wayyyyy different if that exact scenario happens to other coaches.

I am consistent, I think both Hayden and KF are good coaches, as even good coaches produced stinkers in the post season.....Heck they don't call Bob Stoops "big game Bob" for nothing.....he has been housed in so many bowl games, I lost count of them all.
You are consistent...consistently bad at posting comments on HN. I will give you credit for that.

Hahahaha coming from a guy posting this freaking DERPAGE.......undefeated conference season don't mean anything if you get beat in your bowl games.......DERP.

I am probably just an old dumb guy, but I do believe in Occam's razor: If we had an average to slightly above average passing attack in our arsenal this year, we would probably have won at least one, maybe even two more regular season games.

And, as I digress, it is just plain stupid that we lost to NDSU. The NW game was not quite as stupid, since they have been up and down all year and have shown the capability to play really good football. The PSU game was a blowout, which often happens to even pretty good football teams, especially on the road. The W game was a lot closer than most might have you believe. And, we really finished strong in November after PSU. The M game and the N game were NOT flukes. No way. We were better. Not first in the West, but second. Disappointed.

From my POV, the finish has been great as beating Michigan and Nebraska has been very satisfying. But I'd be lying if I didn't say I keep thinking back to how we should have beaten NDSU and Northwestern and not feeling a little sick about it. No excuses to losing those games and at 10-2 Iowa we wouldn't be sitting here talking about going to the Holiday or Music City Bowls.

How many outright titles does he have again? That's what I thought. You're the type of person that would have bragged about winning the West again this year even though we got beat down by Wisky.

So does our 2004 Big 10 conference title not matter because we were beat by Michigan head-to-head that year?

I wrote and talked about the WR issues and my OL pass pro concerns all summer long...and then I don't factor it into my predictions. That's on me. But that's just for me. We each have our own views.

You just seem a bit bitter about a sports team over which you have no control...I just refuse to get angry over these things any more.

We have some bitter people on here that just want to dislike Kirk Ferentz the coach. No matter what they do, they want to criticize. We just crushed Nebraska but they want to still focus on North Dakota State or Northwestern. The two teams we lost to that are probably not as good as Iowa is. Hard to argue that we are better than Wisconsin and Penn State, so we lost 2 that maybe we should not have but we won at least 1 game maybe we didn't see coming in the Michigan win. We crushed ISU and Nebraska and we beat Michigan. Great year in my opinion. Not 2015 great but still a good year. What great environments for recruits to see in the Michigan and Nebraska games which ended up like a night game. Wish we could get rid of 11am kicks.

How is this season better without a win over Michigan? That would be like saying that '08 would have been better if we lost to Penn St., but beat Pitt???

I wouldn't trade that win for a NDSU, not in a million years. I was at both, and losing to NDSU sucked ass, and there is no way that losing to Michigan would have felt bad at all. The flip side though is that beating NDSU would have been no big deal, a yawner for sure......yet beating Michigan the way we did after losing to Penn St. the way we did was priceless man.

I'm not saying that win made the season, I'm just saying I'll remember that win way longer than I would have remembered a win over NDSU.

I would have traded the MI win for a win vs. both NDSU and NW though. Even though neither of those wins would have given Iowa a fraction of the positive press it got for beating Mich, we would be winning the games we should.

But I agree, if I can only trade the MI game for 1 win (the only one I would trade it for would be Wisc). No That small change would change everything in terms of perception, cause we'd be heading to Indy at 8-4.

Weird year.

I said at the beginning of the year that their most likely loss was at Penn St. I said that no way would they lose to Michigan at Kinnick..........of course I did not see NDSt, or NW........I said that Wisc was 50/50.

Beating Michigan was huge in setting up the volatile playoff situation. Ushering in the 8-team playoff is a pretty big accomplishment.

This year was exactly like last year. We played Wisconsin for the Division title. Last year we squeaked it out, 10-6, on a fluke fumble by Wisconsin. This year we lost 17-9 in a very close game. If we had defeated Wisky, we would be playing in Indy.

Not that much difference between the two teams....I think this year's defense is better, but the offense is not as good

It is amazing to me the whining on this board. To defeat #2 Michigan and annihilate hated Nebraska in the same season is a special accomplishment. This team could do very well in the bowl game and capture a bowl championship, which is something last year's team did not do.

Lmao except different.. what did I just read..

The pressure that mounted with each and every game for Iowa last season and to close it out was impressive as hell. Anyone who has played sports can't take anything away from what Iowa accomplished last seasons I refuse to bash them.
