The 5 schools mentioned in the last few pages as being "on par" with Iowa are MSU, Wisc, Neb, Colorado, and Utah. If you are interested in yearly comparisons, see below.
This year our season was...
- much better than MSU (3-9 overall, 1-8 in conference)
- roughly equal to Neb (Neb has better overall at 9-3, same conference at 6-3, they are ranked 23 AP vs. our 22, and we know how the head-to-head came out)
- roughly equal to Utah (8-4 overall, 5-4 in conference, not ranked)
- not as good as Wisc (10-2 overall, 7-2 in conference, 6th ranked, beat us head-to-head)
- not as good as Colorado (10-2 overall, 8-1 in conference, 9th ranked)
Last year our season was...
- much better than Neb (6-7/3-5, we beat them head to head)
- much better than Colorado (4-9/1-8)
- better than Wisc (10-3/6-2, we beat them head to head)
- better than Utah (10-3/6-3)
- not as good as MSU (same records, they beat us head-to-head in a tight game)
The year before that (2014) Neb, MSU, and Wisc were better, Utah was probably on par, Colorado was much worse.
The year before that (2013) MSU and Wisc were better, Neb was on par, and Utah and Colorado were clearly worse.
The 2 years before that (2011 and 2012) MSU, Wisc, Neb were clearly better, Utah was pretty similar, Colorado was clearly worse.
The year before that (2010) MSU, Wisc were clearly better, Neb probably similar to a bit better, Colorado much worse (Utah not year P5).
The year before that (2009) Iowa was better than all of those programs.
So from those peer programs that were mentioned, some years Iowa is at or near the top, some years they are at or near the bottom, and some years they are in the middle. So roughly on par with the group (MSU and Wisc obviously a bit stronger than us over this window).
