Miller in full apologist mode on Twitter right now

I'm gonna have to stick with ya, I would think it is a good season.

Don't get me wrong, you can be disappointed with a good season......but it still doesn't mean it wasn't a good season.

I'm not jumping up and down for joy for this season, I was right with everyone else thinking 9-3 and possibly 10-2. I'm just saying that 8 wins (and now with a 9 game B1G schedule) is a good season, it just is. Not outstanding, not excellent, but good.

If you told me we were going to go 8-4 in 2020, I would say it's a good season. If you told me we won 12 games the year before and returned all 22 starters, and had a way easier schedule, I would have said it sucked.

It When we had our best wr and our best te healthy, we lost to 2 pretty weak teams. But then without them we beat a really good team so I don't think you can blame those losses on a bad passing game.

Expectations aside, we should have never lost those two early games. But since our schedule ended up tougher than anticipated, we were probably close to a wash as far as finishing where we should have. Maybe one game shy of a wash. It's really not a big deal to finish one game shy of a wash tho. I'm just really tired of watching us piss away games against bad teams.
This exactly.

I had the Hawks 9-3 before the season losing to Mich, Penn State, and All State U (the low caliber opponent = losing to somebody a KF coached Iowa does every year - "it's what we do")

6-3 in conference is a pretty good season.

I'm not upset about the PSU blowout. That seemed to happen to a lot of ranked teams this season and without the Lions taking Iowa's manhood I highly doubt the last three games are satisfying wins and could imagine a 14-7 win vs. Illinois.

This team was sleep walking through most of this season until they were called quitters by an opponent.

The games they had some emotion they dominated on both sides of the ball (except vs. Michigan but Wadley dominated that game)

As far as Jon's point that Iowa had flaws this season and he may not weight those like he does other programs ... I get that.

Those flaws, however, should not be a losing disadvantage to the likes of NDST or NW.

Obviously you don't want to talk about that. Lots of other B1G champion coaches beside Hayden and Ferentz have gotten smoked in Bowl games. It is irrelevant to winning the B1G, you know it, and that is why you STFU on this.
No, I think it's funny how you would bring up HF and pretend like what he did is some how comparable to what KF has done. I didn't repost a comment because I thought your conclusion was silly and quite stupid

You really should claim the victories life gives you -- even if they are ties. You would accept an individual gold medal if you tied with another person, right?

For most of Ferentz's tenure, he's not had the opportunity to settle every season on the field. Within the rules of the game, he's won conference titles. Those other teams could have shared a conference title as much as Iowa during that time. They didn't, right?

Take gifts when you get them. Win when you can.
That's just not something you see Wisky, MSU, OSU or Michigan celebrate. Yay, we are tied for first with a team that already beat us on the field! I guess that's why they are the programs they are and we are the program that we are.

I wrote and talked about the WR issues and my OL pass pro concerns all summer long...and then I don't factor it into my predictions. That's on me. But that's just for me. We each have our own views.

You just seem a bit bitter about a sports team over which you have no control...I just refuse to get angry over these things any more.
Perspective. Life is much more enjoyable when one is found. I'm at the same place in life as a Hawkeye fan. Opinionated, demanding, hopeful, excited, disappointed, but always cheering. I loved last year. I was frustrated at times this year. Even though they say you can't win 'em all, I still want to win 'em all. At the end of the day, I cheer for the Hawks, wear my emotions on my sleeve and I understand that the sun will rise tomorrow and I get to cheer on the Hawks.

We returned 22 starters? Holy crap. Did the team know this?

Pretty sure OSU counts 2008, even though they lost to PSU. The only one you can argue about is 2004, but we beat OSU and Mich didn't, and by rule that's a shared title by record. 2002 OSU and Iowa never played. Wisconsin counts the bizarre 2012 Championship year, since OSU and PSU were ineligible. You can bet OSU and Mich claim 1986, and the 1990 teams all claim the ship.

There was a time when football had ties. Nobody liked them, but it existed. They didn't look at the yardage after the score to determine the winner. If no tiebreaker exists in a rule, you don't get to just make one up.

I think 8-4 was toward the bottom of most of our expected outcomes this year, 7-5 worst case scenario. Could things have ended up a lot worse? Of course, after the PSU game many of us wondered if we would even get to 6 wins and I am ecstatic that we finished the last 3 games the way we did but to say 8-4 is fine regardless of what teams you lost to is just sticking your head in the sand. The NDSU loss changed the entire complexion of the season. If we take care of business there 99% of us are satisfied today.

You do realize the "issues" Kirk has with his team are self-inflicted . . . right?

And I think it is funny that you don't know shit about college football. You wanna scream and shout that KF isn't any good because when he went undefeated in B1G play, but he did poorly at a Bowl Game??? Then when pointed out correctly that lots of B1G champs struggle in bowl games (used Hayden as an example) that you stick your head in the sand and somehow claim that a coach only sucks if it happens to KF, it is ok and wayyyyy different if that exact scenario happens to other coaches.

I am consistent, I think both Hayden and KF are good coaches, as even good coaches produced stinkers in the post season.....Heck they don't call Bob Stoops "big game Bob" for nothing.....he has been housed in so many bowl games, I lost count of them all.

I said in another post that you can be disappointed in a 8-4 seasons because expectations where high. Like I also said (to me) that doesn't mean that it was a bad season, just that expectations where high and weren't met. This season didn't meet my expectations, I still think it was a good season. If we win our bowl game it is boarderline great season.

10+ wins = Great season
8 or 9 wins = Good season
7 wins = completely average season
6 wins or less = unacceptable

Just my chart is all, you can have your won PC, it won't hurt my feelings at all. :)

Truth is, if Iowa doesn't go 10-2 or better each season, there will be people *****ing about the Ferentz, the team, and the season.

This season wasn't perfect and we left a few out there, but how the conclusion of the regular season ended up left me mostly fulfilled as a Hawkeye fan.

Using rose colored glasses to try and convince everyone why the lofty expectations for this season were not justified (they were), and why this 8-4 season with home losses to North Dakota and NW, and getting destroyed by PSU really "don't matter that much" (they do).

On the NE instant reaction podcast he even said that he "won't ever" nitpick an 8 win season, even though he has repeatedly said that the 1997 and 2010 teams with similar records were the most disappointing of his lifetime.

Listen, I am happy we finished the season strong and am normally ok with a marginal 7-8 win season. But it's not like this was an inexperienced team that needed time to gel.

This season had high expectations for a reason. Either we still aren't a very good team or we didn't play to our potential for about 70% of the season. I wouldn't get too excited over either answer.

You are free to continue to clinch your fists, nash your teeth and curse the program and curse those who "got over it"

Let me know how that works out for you.
