KF Press Conference @ 2pm

So if a fan would disagree with a statement or position of a player or players they should not follow the team, leave?

I thought we were into "inclusion" and not "exclusion?" All opinions matter! Kneeling or not kneeling matters! All lives matter!

And yes, we all want law enforcement to treat everyone fairly.
Let me flip it in reverse...

Why do you want to be a fan of a team made up of players who so strongly disagree with you and obviously have polar opposite social convictions? Why do you want to be a fan of players who don't want you as a fan? If these players have taken a stance together that's so against the grain of your being that you can't look past it, then why would you not want to move on? Is it because you wish they'd see things your way and change their minds? Is it because you're nostalgic for the good old days of Iowa football? Both are understandable reasons, but neither are realistic.

Whether any of us like it or not, a more progressive and less old school wave of student athletes is here and it won't be going away, ever. The new way of running a football team is going to be involve less authority by coaches, and things that were accepted in the 80s/90s/whenever aren't going to be tolerated anymore. That's just fact. What you call demanding coaching and jokes in bad taste are now seen as abuse and bigotry. Wouldn't it be easier to walk away and find something different to spend your time following rather than trying to repeatedly slam your head against a brick wall hoping it's gonna change? If you're going to wait it out until the current crop of players is gone hoping for a return to Ferentzball 1.0 you're going to be sorely disappointed.

Maybe it's best to say, "It's been a good run, but this isn't what I became a fan of," and move on. Because it's not going back to the way it was. Ever.

I actually came away from the press conference impressed once it was noted that we wouldn't really hear anything until next week. My thoughts...

Kaevon Merriweather- For him to take to the podium and discuss his comments without the safety of doing it through social media took balls. I took no issue with what he previously said, and felt he represented himself and the university well today.

Keith Duncan- Absolutely love the guy and the energy/attitude he brings to the team. Great personality for players to look up to in the locker room.

IKM- Spoke honestly and from the heart. Love the maturity level and the way he conducts himself. Thought he gave some great answers and after listening to him really believed that the team is tighter than ever.

KF was KF. IMO he continues to come off as an authentic and great guy, but I've always been a fan of him as a person so I could be easily duped. I did like his take on admitting the Twitter rule was dumb and that he needs to trust his players and can't try to protect them, although I think it had as much to do with protecting his players as it did with maintaining control.

I did find it interesting that to my knowledge Doyle's name didn't come up at all, but there were plenty of comments pertaining to the environment in the weight room and Asst. Coach Braithwaite. I think it said a lot about the fate of Coach Doyle as most of us suspected. I just wonder how long things play out.

Kaevon is doing "stupid talk." Hopefully the coaches can mentor him a bit.
Why?

Almost all of his teammates have come out and supported him and they sure haven't' told him he was out of line.

And by "mentor," wouldn't that be exactly what the players are upset about? Old white coaches telling them how to think and speak? You just don't get it.

He is not ....He does not need mentored, at least not in regards to this. The players are going to be unified together as a program. They will kneel or they won't and either way, they want Iowa fans to respect their decision and get behind them. Why is it so hard for you to support black players at Iowa, their plight, their fight for their right to have a voice and equality?

@RobHowe , I'm not doing the "You need to ask the HARD QUESTIONS" routine, but do you think next week when Barta gets thrown to the piranhas that media members will ask specific questions about Brian and Seth Wallace? I'd really love to hear comment on those two situations. If Barta gave the "it's an ongoing investigation" stuff which he will, I'd love to see a reporter ask him about violating FERPA laws by posting a student's GPA. I have to think that if a prof did that, he wouldn't make it to the end of the school day. Simple corroboration by students would be all it took.

Do you all think that if Doyle had not released his statement and instead showed up here, hit it head on, broke down and profusely apologized for how he treated the players and convince us all he had his come to Jesus moment, that all could be forgiven and everyone could move forward? Or was he done no matter what?

Before the press conference I said KF wasn't going to roll over on Doyle and that I thought nobody was leaving from the coaching ranks. After listening to the press conference. I think it's likely that Doyle is indeed leaving. As others have mentioned...the "mood around the weight room being different" was pretty telling.

I wouldn't say it's a done deal...as I'm sure it's not going to be a cheap parting of the ways. Saying offensive or bigoted things occasionally isn't something that's going to trigger his termination clause. He's gonna be getting a big check if they let him go.

It will be interesting...I know it's not the players decision about whether Doyle goes or not...but I wonder to a man...what the current players feelings are on Chris Doyle. Now...that makes me look at Dillon leaving a little differently...maybe that's already been made clear that current players want the old man out.

Done no matter what.

I don't think that's in his character.

When Kirk was asked about the kneeling during the anthem he said they are working on something that wouldn't polarize the fans. I just don't see the Hawks kneeling for the anthem. Got to think Kirk and company will persuade the team to come up with something better. Don't let me down Hawks.

Remember way back when everyone used to complain about Ken O Keefe. I think one of the few without any accusation against him. I've never seen him yell at anyone.

The thing about O Keefe was with a good QB his offense was a thing of beauty, without it was a clunker.

Apologies do not work in today's world; only blood.

Doyle was gone the moment they put him on leave. Unless they get 7 tweeters to come out and say they lied they could never bring him back.

With what the players said today there is no way Doyle survives - nor should he.

welcome to the end of the news cycle.

Wow.
It would seem that this is becoming a college football union type of thing.
I like unions and think they are a good thing.
However a union requires all.
Otherwise you are just a trouble maker or a group of trouble makers. Things could get awfully ugly at that point, from scholarships to play time, to being released from the team. College football is going to change, how it changes is the question.
I agree with others who have said that if this is a problem at Iowa, you know it's a problem everywhere.
