Is it time to panic yet?

Fran allowed the best PG option to leave Iowa in Williams. Williams made comments about working on his shooting to get more playing time and this team didn’t need him to be a scorer!! No biggie to Fran just opened the door for his boy to see the court..

Gotta agree with this. My only concern this year is tanking so bad this year it hurts future years. I don't think that will happen because we have such few scholarships to give out for the next 2 years.

I really thought the this 3 year run would be one good team, one great team, and one elite team. Turns out it will be closer to one bad team, one average team, and one good team. Pretty disappointing .

Go back to my thread I started asking if Iowa and Fran are at a tipping point. Next year is the tipping point. If it doesn't happen, it will start to slide. This was the whole point of that thread.

I watch this team and literally can’t figure out what they actually do in practice. I wouldn’t be surprised if they just played knockout and 21 all week.

Worst game ever. We don't even do that anymore on our 5th grade youth team. Horrible free throw drill. Hurry Hurry Chuck it!!

If Iowa even at least played a little defense and was able to defend the 3, they'd be successful or on the other end of these scores. How with their length and supposedly athleticism they can't defend the 3 better.

There was a stretch in the first half when they would give Michigan a wide open shot and then run back down to the other end and literally just jack up the first jump shot they saw. It’s like they only care about scoring

Typical youth league stuff.

It's a tipping point, Fran will not last at Iowa past next season without a high seed and good team next season.

Correct, we are saying the same things...except you say you don't see ANY talent on the team and then talk about how much better ISU is afterwards...but then chase that with "ISU is not a tourney team"

I think we're talking past each other, and if I phrased things wrong that's my bad. I meant I don't see tourney talent on this team.

Ouch. We aren't even going to beat Nebraska. NW is injury laden. Who's Indiana's only win against? US! Shit, Penn St to.

This should be hung on each players locker.

Time for Fran to use all players and just go Grinnell System on them. Need some different nitch. What the hell is there to lose?

Yeah a little - Not this group as a whole, there are certainly some missing pieces, and they are definitely not a tournament team as it is... but it's not like the roster is void of talent or players capable of playing their way to an NCAA tournament with another quality G. But the roster management is on Fran and it's currently a disaster.

I agree with bits and pieces of a lot of this thread. I am about at the end of the rope with Fran, the team is not playing as a cohesive unit and plays with little energy (as many of them mentioned after the game). This is on Fran. Screaming at your own people at the scorers table is childish and unprofessional, just ridiculous. I'd love someone to just get up from the scorers table and dish it back to him.
IMO, we do not have Sweet 16 talent on this team, also on Fran. I saw a post last night on twitter, don't recall who, that said Iowa is basically Tyler Cook and a bunch of MAC Level players. Hard to argue with that. I think one poster hit it right, we need to shrink the rotation and almost force a couple guys to transfer as it is clear we need an upgrade in athleticism and need Schollies to open up. Many games look like the tortoise vs the hare out there, speed on Michigan so much greater than us last night. How many dunks did we allow?

My roster break down:
Cook, Bohannon (as a 3 pt specialist), Baer, Pemsl and Garza are BIG players, not necessarily starting 5 type players though other than Cook. Garza isn't there yet but will be I think in a year or two.
Nunge right now is too slow a foot, but should become a solid BIG player, I haven't seen enough of him yet.
Dailey - has shown flashes, but is he really better than a MAC player or 8th or 9th man?
Moss - no killer instinct and never shows up when we need him. He is most disappointing to me, MAC player at best
Ellingson - buh bye, bench.
Wagner - please go play football, Kirk needs you!
Kriener - would be a great fit at UNI

So at least 5 out of our top 10 guys aren't even BIG level players, and the ones that are most likely should be 6-8 in a rotation. Obviously a top tier PG makes many of them better, which we've hashed out for 7 years on this site.
I think the most frustrating thing is I watched Texas Tech go in to the Phog and win with incredible athleticism and solid coaching last night, many of them freshmen! Night and day difference in athleticism vs our squad. Texas Freakin Tech should not be able to recruit players like this to Lubbock and us not get some great players. Time to mix up the staff some at the very least?

While Fran has his gameday flaws, I still think the main problem isn't with that. Just my opinion of course.

i'm not willing to say that yet. but i think Conner needs to skip the RS and fran needs to pull the trigger on JBo to sg and conner starts at pg. period.

I don't understand this theory floating around that Bohannon would somehow excel at the SG position. He would have a much more difficult time getting shots off at the SG position running the baseline and coming off screens than what he does now. The majority of Bohannon's shots come from him handling the ball as much as he does, pulling up in transition, defenders going under on a ball screen, and offensive rebounds being kicked back out to the PG to set the offense back up. Not only would Bohannon have a much more difficult time getting his shot off but he'd be switched on to bigger SG's more often on defense.

This would be a terrible coaching decision - so having said all of that, I wouldn't be surprised if Fran does it.

think steve alford. that should give you an idea of how this would work.

You know Alford played in the 80's right? The game has changed. Do you have a more relevant example that is 6'0 and is as limited athletically as Bohannon who plays SG and excels at coming off screens? I really don't think there are any.
