Iowa's Biggest Rival: Interesting poll results

Well I grew up in CR and my parents still live in CR, in my dads office there are more ISU fans than Iowa fans. In my mom's office it is 50/50 ISU/Iowa so I will say BS to the highlighted comment. Maybe your family lives on the University of Iowa campus? To the comment about ISU not existing, I would guess 10% of my graduating class went to UNI, 40% went to ISU and 50% went to Iowa (who went to the major Iowa colleges). Most of them have moved back to CR and are ISU fans and alot of them were ISU fans before they went to ISU. You know fans gravitate between schools? The ISU appeal in CR and the eastern part of the state is growing annually.

Well I live in CR, have my whole life and say you are wrong. I work at a large employer and have about 80 people in my department. There are 2 "openly admitted" ISU fans. Not saying everyone else is Iowa fans, but a vast majoriyt are. Additionally, most people don't go to college and if you are raised in E. Iowa and didn't go to ISU, you are highly likely to be an Iowa fan. Not always the case, but mostly so.

$5 says that this thread turns into some sort of self-fulfilling prophecy. I mean, if we are so vehemently denying that ISU is not our biggest rival, then ISU simply MUST be our biggest rival, right? :D

I agree that a conference game is always more important. But that isn't the question. Question is who is the biggest rival. Don't you think that the Florida State vs Virginia Tech game is more important to FSU? But Florida Gators are a bigger rival. Same here.

And I guess I will just have to disagree but let's say you have 3 guys walking down the streets of Iowa City. One guy is wearing a Wisconsin shirt, other a Nebraska, and the last an Iowa State shirt. The Iowa State fan will get heckled the most without a doubt. Why? Biggest rival

Don't confuse "biggest rival" with, "easiest target". You get heckeld because your program is a joke and we can say things about it to it's fans, that we can't about Wisky or Nebby.

Were the Texas State Armadillos the biggest rival of the University of Texas Colts? I don't think so.

Who are we trying to kid here? I mean hell, look at the Rivalry forum. There are 16 threads on ISU on the first page alone. You all act like you don't give a damn, but it seems to me that they can't even sneeze in Ames without there being discussion about it over here.

I know it seems a lot more interesting and exciting at the prospect of having Nebraska as the top rival, but the reality of the fact is Iowa/Nebraska haven't played in over a decade and have I think a total of 10 games played in the last 50-60 years? Thats not much of a rivalry at all.

You do realize that Wisconsin, Not Nebraska, was listed as the top team.

damn near half of those rivalry threads have been posted by ISU fans, Dyerhawk (who is either an idiot or impostor) and pooker, who is obviously obsessed with ISU.

Actually, it's a lot funnier when they wet themselves...or worse.

The guy that lives next door is hard to ignore. He's not your favorite neighbor...but when you hear his tractor pull out of the drive every morning, see his fat wife waddle out to the garbage, and have to listen to the bleating of the sheep in his backyard every day... of course he's going to come up often at the dinner table.

In the outside world (outside the internet), in everyday interactions Iowa State is Iowa's biggest rival in the state of Iowa. Going make sales calls and travel the state like I do weekly. It's obvious.

On a message board....well you tell me who Iowa's biggest rival is linked by this evidence

I'd actually rank Minnesota and Northwestern as bigger rivals than ISU. IMO to me Wisky is number one simply because of how tight the all time series is, however I list OSU because my hatred grows for them every season because we simply can't get past them.

Of the four irrelevant nonconference games, I'll admit ISU is our biggest rival. Not only did I get to put irrelevant and ISU in the same sentence, buit it's 100% factual. Until they become a threat and figure out how to score on a first or second team defense, I don't see them as a rival but more of a joke.

having lived in Omaha, des Moines, and iowa city.... its very, very easily Nebraska

How is it "very easily" Nebraska when we haven't played them in years?

The Wisconsin game is always a great game. Not playing them is quite unfortunate. The Nebby game will become a great game (I hope), but I don't think losing the UW game is a stellar trade-off.

UW beat us late in the 4th quarter last year. In the prior year, Iowa ripped their hearts out in Cramp Randall. I have been going to Iowa-UW games every year (at both sites) and it is a great game. UW also played in the Rose Bowl last year, and may go pretty far this year.

I see your point about living in western Iowa, though. I can appreciate that. However, for those of us who have lived in Wisky, Chicago, and points east, Iowa v nebby hasn't been an issue at all because they haven't even played in years.

What exactly are you trying to get out of arguing that we need to view your program as "our biggest rival"? Your program is a joke and not a threat, as a fan base we've got bigger and better programs to focus on so we don't care how you view your super bowl in September against us. We don't see you the same way you see us get over it.

Ask an Iowa season ticket holder which games they really want to attend. Depending on the schedule, they'd circle OSU, Michigan, PSU, Nebby, and Wisconsin. Then...they'd possibly choose Iowa State.

As someone who attends, on average, 7-9 games a year, I would rather see any conference game over the ISU game (with the possible exception of Indiana, but even those have been really good games).

I'm not arguing that you need to do anything. I'm just arguing that it is already in place. Iowa fans view ISU as their biggest rivals. Whether they admit it or not is another story.

Huh? The vast majority of "rivals" that post here are ISU fans. There isn't to many Nebraska or Wisconsin fans that know about this website so its going to be lopsided.

3/4 of the threads in that forum are started by Iowa fans.
