Iowa's Biggest Rival: Interesting poll results

NU cares about 1 thing and thats their 5 NCs if you dont have any, no matter what you are not on their level.

Still what has Iowa done, minus 1 BCS victory to hold respect in a Cornhuskers eyes. Remember they believe they will contend for a NC every year. I am thinking like a Husker fan.

More than ISU. And Husker fans do think this way. I live around a lot of them.

They haven't even played in 10 years how can you be a rival? Who's to say NU doesn't win the first three games of this series in blowout fashion, then is it a rivalry? I dont think NU will think it is. It takes two teams to make a rivalry, not one thinking a rivalry exists. The games over the next few years between these teams will determine whether a rivalry will be made. But lets be honest with each other, does NU really care about beating the Iowa's and ISU's of the world? Hell no, they care about the other "name" programs. ISU wanted to be rivals with Nebraska too, how did that work out? NU thinks more highly of themselves then to be rivals with a team that has yet to win a NC game. They view OSU, PSU, and Michigan on their level. But like I said the next few seasons are critical for this to BECOME a rivalry to some NU fans, and number 1 rival at that, other than that Iowa will still fall a distant third or fourth on their rivalry list in the Big 10 no matter the outcomes.
This. I concur, you can't just name a rival. Our one true rival was Oklahoma, why? Because for the period of about 30 years, we played for the Big 8/12 title and a shot at the Orange Bowl and a possible MNC.

Some people are trying to make PSU our rival, but even though we have some interesting history, I don't think that they are a rival, yet. We don't have any, imo.

Don't group Iowa and ISU together. Not the same thing, and I bet that even a Nebby fan would admit to that.
Honestly, we don't. I know it will upset some of you, but up until now, we haven't played Iowa, so there can be no rivalry. As for ISU, well, we really don't see them as a rival either, just like Kansas, K St, or Colorado. We just don't.

Even though K St and Colorado (at times) were our biggest challenges to a conference championship, it was never for a sustained period like Oklahoma-Nebraska was.

If both teams (Iowa-Nebraska) are fighting for a division championship, and are playing each other very tough each year, in due time it will be a rivalry. If one (or both) of the teams sh#@s the bed and the games suck, well, it will only be another game.

I agree with that. Wisconsin is a bigger game b/c it is a conference game. I just argue who the bigger rival is.

Before the ISU game you know every Hawk fan says, "we better not lose to these fuc#@%s or else work is going to suck come Monday!!!" :D

You seem to think that it can only be a rivalry if you share an office with the other team's fans. That simply isn't the case. I'm sure that there probably aren't/weren't a lot of Oklahoma fans working in Lincoln. Does that mean that OU/Nebraska wasn't/isn't a rivalry?

Rivalries can be born through either hatred of another fanbase, or on the field. Wisconsin is a little of both, though I think the on-field product has more to do with it. It's our biggest rival, because there is much more at stake in that game than there is in the ISU game.

1. It's a conference game
2. We consistently go after the same recruits
3. Their head coach is a UI alum (and kind of a jacka**. Tough to like him, unlike Rhoads)
4. Their fans are unbearable (There are more than enough of them in NE Iowa)

I certainly don't want to lose the ISU game, but they aren't our #1 rival. There's a reason that Kinnick is louder and rowdier when Wisky comes to town.

WADR to Jon's title for the thread, the poll was not about what you viewed as the biggest rival; it was what program you loathe. For anyone who has ever encountered an obnoxious Nebraska fan (redundant, I realize), the program you dislike most plays its home games in Lincoln.

Bielema's Badgers are a very close second and easily move into first the week we play them, followed by Pat Fitzgerald and his squad of over-achieving Barneys.

While I agree with these sentiments, it's all in who you ask. I know PLENTY of Nebraska fans that are going to love the Iowa game. They have already stated to me that it is the game on their schedule that they are looking forward to the most. That may not be the consensus of all NU fans, but there are certainly some that feel that way. Just like some Iowa fans are loving the thought of playing Nebraska, and others couldn't care less.

Agreed. I look forward to it, too, but no more than I do playing OSU or Michigan. This is going to be a very interesting journey for our football team.

In time that may change, however.

People lie to themselves every day.

You go to work and get in a debate about Iowa. You are not debating a Northwestern fan. You are not debating a Nebraska fan. You are not debating a Wisconsin fan. You ARE debating an Iowa State fan. Iowa fans just don't want to admit that Iowa State is their biggest rival and they want to beat them the most. I get it. But in reality 90% of them are just lying.

You can't make this stuff up....f-ing hilarious. I'm still rolling on the floor.

Here you are Clone17...on an IOWA board...just can't wait to jump up (you're the first to comment on Jon's thread) and say "WE'RE IMPORTANT!...pay attention to us! We DO matter!" Classic.... Priceless...

Some things never change...

No way Nebraska is our biggest rival. You cannot possibly say that when we have yet to begin our series with them.

Easily the answer to this question is Wisconsin. This rivalry's all time record is 42-42-2! Think about that for a minute. That says it all. We are similar programs in so many aspects: style, recruiting, passionate fan bases, etc. I want Wisconsin to lose every game they play. I don't feel the same about ISU. That is why Wisconsin is our biggest rival.

A few things
1) You haven't a clue about rivalries. Iowa/isu is an infant compared to wisky (there is no real hisdtory since isu has never amounted to much in the last 33 years.
2) It is funny how this has gotten under yoir skin. You are a fool if you think fans in eastern iowa view isu as our biggest rival NOTHING hinges on the game.

This x 100. This reeks of lil' brudder like nobody's business.

I agree that a conference game is always more important. But that isn't the question. Question is who is the biggest rival. Don't you think that the Florida State vs Virginia Tech game is more important to FSU? But Florida Gators are a bigger rival.

I'm pretty sure it asks what program Iowa fan loathe. Being a rival and disliking a team is completely different. I personally feel sympathy towards ISU fans but don't loathe them.

Iowa fans can keep trying to convince everyone that Nebbie is going to be a huge rivalry game with national relevance all they want, but you know how the old saying goes, "s*** in one hand, wish in the other. see which one gets filled first".

Nebraska fan does not care about Iowa. they're after tOSU, MU, and PSU because those are the teams that they believe are on their "level". everyone else is, in their opinion, beneath them. it's going to completely **** Iowa fans off and make them loathe NU even more, but NU is going to come in and Iowa will be treated by NU in the same way that Iowa treats ISU, like little brother. I don't think it even matters if Iowa beats nebraska a few times right off the bat, until there is a national title in your trophy case nebraska fan is incapable of coming to terms with someone being their rival because that would be an admission of being on the same level as them.
