Iowa Basketball Recruits

I haven't been able to track this kid, but....

Well, I was able to catch the last 3 minutes. Duke commit, Zion Williamson had 30pts, 15 boards.

Considering McCorkle's only a freshman....

His handles are excellent, especially at his age. His lateral quickness on defense needs some work, however. I would expect by his senior year, he'll be improved there at least by a small margin. I've seen a video of him dunking rather easily, so I know he has hops.

It appears that the whole team played tonight for North as they beat East 81-52.

Why did we offer Fredrick. At best he's another Ellingson. At worst he's another Oglesby. I don't see any upside with him. We should have banked that scholarship and offered someone like Locure.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Fran is pretty good friends with their family. I may be wrong on that. But if true, what a great reason to offer a kid! We're in the being nice and graduating business. Winning is just a nice added bonus when it happens.

"In the end, Iowa won out for two reasons: Its style of play and Fredrick’s relationship with McCaffery, who was an assistant coach for his uncle, Joe Fredrick, at Notre Dame."

There's the connection ^. CJ did have committable offers from Xavier, PSU and Nebraska, so Fran isn't the only one that sees something in him. We know he can shoot, but I sure hope he can play some defense.

Weiskamp with 44 tonight to become Iowa's all time 4A leading scorer passing Jeff Horner.

My brother was announcing at that game. He does the PA for a number of sports (Muscatine football, basketball, baseball, soccer; QC River Bandits; state girls soccer) and happened to be announcing that night.

Did Carton's team really only score 25 points in a loss. He must of been sick as there is no reason for a team with a d1 prospect on it only scores 25 points. Especially a d1 point guard.

They did against Pleasant Valley. Pleasant Valley has a high score of 70 points this year against a truly bad Burlington team (they won 70-27). They are 18-3 right now. But their offensive philosophy is to get the rebound, wait until everyone takes off for the other end, walk the ball up the court and then get at least 10-15 passes in before even looking for a shot. They really took the air out of the ball in the Bettendorf game. While the shooting wasn't great, there weren't that many shots taken.

Frederick is being compared to Ellingson. Fredrick was named by Scout.Com as it's 5th best shooter coming out of high school. He might be Mr. Basketball in Kentucky. He has good offers on his ledgers. I know it's all anecdotal but was Ellingson rated that high as a shooter, was he in the running for Mr. Basketball in Wisconsin, did he have any high major offers?

He has two things working against him on perception. He was willing to walk on because he's a family friend of Fran, and he's white. Imagine if he was deciding right before signing day between us and Xavier, and was black. Right or wrong, I would be more excited. For all we know, we have a quicker, taller Bohannon.

I've seen enough video of him to know he's not quicker than JBo. Your "we" doesn't include me.

McCorkle is the legit business. Handles, first step, hops, and a crazy good pull up game. McCorkle will be a top 25 recruit and will likely be # 1 or 2 SG in his senior class.

Fran is in early and McCorkle and Foster are pals from some basketball events. Even with those things I don't hold much hope to pull a blue chipper out of the heart of North Carolina. Soon this kid will have offers from every championship contender in the NCAA.

Right. He is definitely not the quickest dude at 6'7. He does though have the ability to shoot over alot of people and will probably be an offensive + running off screens and such.

Biggest question though is will he be able to offer anything more than bench scoring. I don't actually think we need more scorers. What we need are some damned defenders.

Yep. It's good that Fran got in early, but I find it hard to believe McCorkle winds up in IC.

Just not sure I'm 100% sold on Foster or Carton. But, I've only seen highlights. I guess I did see Foster play once last year. It is hard because at his size he should dominate 3A basketball if he has any skill at all. Just not sure if he is BIG TEN Material.
