I think it's going to be Keno

Don't like Keno, but you're in love with the highly experienced and decorated resume of Rob Jeter.

Got it.

Sorry. I'm going to have a hard time letting that one go. ;)

Let's just agree that we both want Bruce Pearl, first and foremost.

I just think Keno is the next best option, for most of the same reasons we all want Pearl.

I'm right on board with you. I think Pearl is a resounding fan favorite at this point...but I really think everyone is building themselves up to be thoroughly disappointed when Pearl does not take the job...

I don't think Keno will take the job. He's getting paid really well and is coaching on the east coast which is where he grew up. I'd rather see Steve Lavin from ESPN come out of the booth. He was a great coach at UCLA and coached with Keady at Purdue.

JDeMoney....you are 100% correct on this one.

There is no question Pearl would be the home run hire, but I think it's wishful thinking at best. But, Keno would not be a bad hire by any means.

Spank, I can't wait to see your "wish list"! Based on what you're saying about Keno, I'd make sure you don't include any assistant coaches or mid-major guys....you'd really look foolish if you did, especially after your comments about Keno.

Also, you'll want to make sure your candidates have more than 2 years of major coaching experience and wins over more than just a #1 and #15 rated team. Oh yeah, you may want to also add in a guy who has done more than take a team to the NCAA tourney for the first time in 37 years, since the new coach will need to rebuild our program.

I'll be excited to see your realistic "list"!

I don't have a list. I've spouted off names here and there, but never sat down and took the time to really put out a list.

I may not know who I want (besides Pearl), but I know who I don't want.

And I also like Chris Collins - he, too, doesn't have much HC experience, but he's been at Duke for almost a decade. I like Dayton's coach, too.

I'm not opposed to asst coaches, but I'd prefer some HC experience or at least working as an asst at some big name schools or big name coaches.

Agree 100% with Stormin. Keno is not ready. Unproven over the long-haul.
There are way too many other coaches in the USA to choose from for Iowa to choose the son of a deposed former head coach.

Keno is an Iowa alum, he's probably lived nearly as many years in Iowa as he has on the east coast and he would probably looking at a near 1 million dollar a year raise...

So you agree with Stormin that Keno isn't ready, but also agree with him that an assistant coach would be? I just don't understand this logic....

Besides Pearl, there is no better choice than Keno Davis. Keno is NOT learning on the job, he has been learning for years under Tom. This would NOT be an equal hire to Todd Lickliter.

SPANK - you say the recruits love Lickliter, but they haven't played for him. It is quite possible that all the current players liked Lickliter until he coached them. I am quite confident that Keno is much more of a players coach than is Todd Lickliter. I can't believe you are such a shill for lickliter.

I also don't understand the argument for one more year under lickliter. Another year of boring basketball, with a losing record, with declining attendance and a slew of transfers. Lickliter was a dead man walking, so why drag it out another year? I don't get that at all.

I will be extremely upset if Keno is hired. I don't give a hoot if he is Mr. Davis's son or if he'll bring an "exciting" brand of basketball. Sure, he had two good seasons....but this past season was a disaster. Iowa can do better...much...MUCH better.

Here is my short list:

1. Mike Dunlap
2. Bruce Pearl
3. Scott Drew
4. Tony Barbee
5. Kevin Stallings
6. Steve Forbes

Oh there is mutual interest. Iowa wants Pearl and Pearl wants more money from Tennessee.

My thought exactly.

1.) Pearl will express interest in Iowa job privately
2.) Barta will call him
3.) Pearl will go public 5 mins. after he hangs up with Barta professing his loyalty and love for TN
4.) Pearl will sign lucrative extension with TN

Where have I seen this before... Oh yes, this is how he used us approx. 3 years ago.

I hope that Keno becomes a great coach and that he will coach at Iowa someday. But a snowball has a better chance of surviving a sunny day on the beach in hell than Keno has of being hired as the next coach at Iowa. This is a critical hire for the Iowa basketball program and for the job security of Gary Barta and there is absolutely no way he makes what at this point in time would amount to a gimmick hire. It's not happening and I'm surprised at how many people on here believe he is a frontrunner for the job. This is no time for on-the-job training. We need a coach that has paid his dues and proven himself to be a winner over a long period of time. Keno doesn't qualify at this time.

+1 i hope if we don't get pearl that we can get drew.

I think Scott Drew is a coach that merits serious consideration. He turned around a club in far more turmoil, Baylor than Iowa has right now and in the Big 12. I think Pearl uses Iowa for $$$ and Keno has one year at Drake worth noting.

Keno was definitely not a players coach. I know someone that was in that program when Keno took over and from the day they lost to the time he got hired by Providence he didnt have contact or say a word to any of his player. Before that he was rarely in control of the practices and was a huge glamour boy. The players didn't particularly care for him all that much either. Keno would be a big mistake, and I really hope we don't "settle" for him or another mediocre coach at a mid-major.

I think Pearl is a huge long shot unfortunately. From everything I have seen/heard he is very happy at Tennessee. It would be awesome to get him, but I don't see it happening. I think we'd have a better chance at landing Billy Gillespie (sp?).

There is NO WAY that Keno is going to get the job... here is why.

If you take away his name and just look at the resume, there is nothing there. No way Barta hires a name only.

I really am thinking it is going to be Lavin.
