I Like Tim Tebow

Tom Brady is a great QB because he IS a great QB and wins games.
Peyton Manning is a great QB because he IS a great QB and wins games.
There are QBs who are great that don't win games and there are QBs that win games that aren't great.
See how that works?

I don't hate Tebow at all. Not one bit.

I don't get the love from people who think he's a great QB. He's not. He's ok. He's a great leader, passionate about life and football. He's just not that great of a player.

He's only a "great leader" to those that believe as he does.
For instance, he couldn't lead me to water if I was parched. The zealotry is too offputting.

I ment the records of the teams they played against not the records of there teams.. Sorry.

Tebow has played one good team this year and they made him look like a joke and even called him a joke after the game. Oakland was playing good before they lost a ton of good players. The Jet, Chiefs, and Fins are awful.

Ah, good point!

Still waiting for responses to this question:
How would you feel about tebow if he was an atheist and exhibited the same zeal for atheism as he does for his chosen faith?

Anyone? Mr. Mashed Potatoes?? Colorado guy??
I'm a Christian and it wouldn't bother me at all.

Why do Tebow's actions bother you?

How is that applicable?

Pharisees or Christians - the message is the same, is it not?

It's incredibly applicable. Contextual understanding of the teachings is always applicable.

In the context of the passage you cited, from Matthew, it has everything to do with the condition of the heart of the person praying. Why are you praying in public? If it's so people look at you and say 'Oh, look how spiritual he is' then it's not a good thing at all. If you are praying because you want to give glory to God and that is the condition of your heart, then it's most certainly pleasing to God.

Jesus was talking about the Pharisees, who he convicted as people who prayed publicly to increase their own stature or standing in their communities, to try and distance themselves as being better than everyone else. These were also people who, at the time Jesus gave these teachings, were the only people allowed into certain areas of the temple..they were the elitists and certainly acted like it. That's not a good heart condition.

that is what Jesus was referring to; the motive.

I guess someone could question Tebow's motives, but that's a real, real slippery slope. and I have yet to read any account or report that would suggest Tebow does what he does for his own glory. None.

This guy has been under the microscope for 6 years or so...and we all know some would LOVE to get their hands on anything that could sully his reputation. They haven't as of yet, and its not for lack of trying. That said, Tebow isn't perfect either. He's just a person

If we just want to talk about Football, I don't think he's a great quarterback at all. He is winning, and that certainly matters. But I don't suspect he's going to be able to keep winning due to his current skill set, which is limited as it relates to others in his profession. He'll need to become a lot better passer.

What were these guys like their first years? and what were the w/L records of the teams they did beat at that time?

I already stated here that I find zealotry to be alarming and distasteful.
That includes christian zealots like tebow. And muslim zealots. And jewish zealots. And atheist zealots (although I couldn't name one of these).

Really?

Really?

Just like Jesus wouldn't have tossed tables outside the temples, because of the commotion it would cause, because of the conflict of 'faiths' it created...

And about 1000 more examples that come to mind.

Again I say; the anger or irritation 'Tim Tebow' is causing has nothing to do with Tebow and everything to do with the individuals responding to it and how they see the world (and a few other things). Which is OK...but the true target of your angst should be a number of different entities and none of them Tim Tebow.

Tebow is hardly the first athlete to pray before during and after sporting events. He's just received the most focus, and that's not his decision to point the cameras on him. I am sure the TV networks have a TV cam at all time during his games. I would guarantee it.

Yeah, really! Did you not read the scripture Spank quoted? You want to pray, pray in your own home. Creating a scene with your prayers is sending the wrong message and it is directly against Jesus teachings.

I have to laugh at the people saying "he just wins".
I went off on a tangent this morning on Twitter over this sort of logic.

Craig Krenzel is one of the greatest QBs of all-time. HE. JUST. WINS. GAMES. #TebowLogic
Scott Frost is one of the greatest QBs of all-time. HE. JUST. WINS. GAMES. #TebowLogic
Matt Mauck is one of the greatest QBs of all-time. HE. JUST. WINS. GAMES. #TebowLogic
Dan Marino is one of the worst QBs of all-time. HE. JUST. DOESN'T. WIN. GAMES. #TebowLogic
Warren Moon is one of the worst QBs of all-time. HE. JUST. DOESN'T. WIN. GAMES. #TebowLogic
Dan Fouts is one of the worst QBs of all-time. HE. JUST. DOESN'T. WIN. GAMES. #TebowLogic
Boomer Esiason is one of the worst QBs of all-time. HE. JUST. DOESN'T. WIN. GAMES. #TebowLogic

Silly.

What are you really complaining about? The dude has played 5 NFL games, he is 4-1. He's not a great QB but the record speaks for itself. Spank, why has he won 4 out of 5 games?

Yes, I have read it. You have read it. One of us understands its context.

I dont think its a show. its real. Tebow loves his Jesus and I have no problem with that.

Some people like/want to believe another "force" or "God" lead them to water and some people like to believe they had control over there actions leading them to water. If you find water does it matter?

And also keep your (tebow) ignorant views about a woman's right to choose out of my NFL. Totally inappropriate.

It is histerically ironic that you don't like zealous people.

Uhh....because "god" wants him to win??
Or is it maybe because Denver has a robust defense and their opposition in those four wins are the worst teams in the NFL??

See, you think that I live my "real" life in the same manner as I post here, even though you don't know a thing about me.
That makes you either ignorant or a troll. Which is it, frank?

It's been his M.O. since college, Jon. That's the problem I have with it. He uses football as a platform. Maybe I read that incredibly wrong. I realize it's wrong to judge people and I am sorry to do that. However, the antics by Tebow are over the top. I always shrug during postgame interviews when the reporter asks how a player was able to hit that fade away jumper with time expiring to win the game and the player responds - "Jesus." or "All the credit to God, he helped me hit the shot." I get praising your Lord and Saviour, but you really think God has time to watch over your during a game where you dribble a leather ball on a wooden court and helped direct your shot into the bucket? Really? He might have given you strength, motivation, whatever, but he didn't make that shot.

Those sort of things just make me shake my head.

Everyone has their own views on faith, God, etc... I understand that, but sometimes there's a limitation.
