"So everyone knows. Derrick is very smart and a special talent. To think that there is something else going on other than his fit into the offensive scheme. You are wrong."

That's a horrible statement from a football team and coaching standpoint. That shows underlying problems in the program and does not help potential recruiting one bit. Willes may be impatient because he's prob always played up until this point and has never had to sit & wait in his life. Too bad because he could be a significant contributor in the years to come.

Does this directly contradict the program's statement?

im not familiar with Nic but if how I'm reading this is correct, it won't be good

I would like a little better punctuation to properly interpret this remark. ;-)

So how did the story about his father come about? Ferentz not wanting to own up or DWJ not telling Ferentz the truth as to why he's leaving?

Let's not pass this onto a kid as his problem. The problem is he is talented and not getting the ball like he honestly should.. You see coaches getting playmakers the ball every Saturday, yet we want them to "sit and wait for the future"

The stuff about his dad not being in good health is also true. Beathard confirmed that in his interview. I imagine that's what Willies told Kirk when he said he wanted to transfer.

What coach is going to come out and say "Yes, we should have utilized his skill set better to improve our team??" It's all PR from here on out. Damage control out of KF's mouth.

I'd be willing to bet anything that his leaving is not because he isn't getting the ball. It's because there is no hope for that to change because of the scheme and coaches. Add that to the fact that you think the guy on the field throwing the ball is adding to the problem and you have this situation. Again, just speculation on my part.

Ferentz is is spin control mode. The honest answer is "We just lost a really talented kid, largely because of my offensive philosophy."

Period.

It's been touched on in about 35 other threads, but one way to ensure you'll get no more playing time is to quit the team. Not blaming the kid, it just doesn't make sense. Someone (his guardian, for example) ought to walk through these consequences with him, as a young kid in the middle of it doesn't always see things clearly. Tell him to stick it out, see if things change (they can and often do), and at the end of the season if things haven't changed, then make the call.

The dad being sick made more sense to me. Quitting in the middle of the season because you're not playing doesn't make sense.

Offensive scheme is a terrible reason to leave mid-season. He could have used his limited playing time in the next 5 games to get ready to sell his skills to another school. Now he looks like a quitter, rather than just another transfer.

So your going to bash on a kid and call him quitter for leaving mid-season because he just wants out? I see no need to have someone involved that doesn't want to be involved that could infect and rub off onto others. Wish him nothing but the best..

Not getting the ball is part of it. Watch the CJ video. I would bet the other stuff you typed is also part of it.
