DJ Durkin is....

The NCAA better take a stand quick and make a statement or the shit storm is going to hit them soon too.

I know he's an employee of Maryland and not the NCAA, but they could declare him not eligible for ethics violations no different than if a coach got busted for assault or something. Might get sued and might lose, but they better believe that the 9 figure strong twitter hit mob will have heads rolling before midnight.

I sure hope the football team protests right along with the students. I would think all the recruits would scatter for greener football fields.

Heard there's a student body protest in the works but haven't heard about the players yet. I would have a tough time thinking practice as usual is just going to happen today. I mean really wtf... If those players have a spine at all they hold the power here ultimately.

I heard on the radio yesterday that Durkin held a team meeting and some players walked out on it.

Will we see a max exodus of players transferring out?

You'd think so, but I don't know...

Remember, the kid collapsed at the end of May. Died mid-June. If things really were so terrible, wouldn't that have been the "last straw" for players, and they'd leave over the summer? Durkin wasn't put on leave until mid-August, so there was no indication until then (publicly, at least) that he would be gone.

I fail to understand whats going on. I get that this coach recruited most all of them there but he's also ultimately who is at fault here. The buck stops with him not the strength coach who he didn't want to fire but did... So far he's the only scapegoat right?

Loh won't do it because he doesn't want fired before spring himself though right? I thought I saw that reported. He's basically just covering his own till he can get out of dodge. He is in the powerless position of doing what he's told as well.

I'm not sure how getting fired for firing someone would affect his pension or whatever it is he's trying to protect by waiting till spring to retire instead is worth it for him to do but that seems to be his plan. Maybe he figures that since he's leaving anyway that letting the board get their way and keeping him would be the worst thing for them and that'd be his way of getting back at them? I dunno I'm just thinking out loud.

I think the PR machine/social media mob will get to be too much and Durkin won't end up coaching a game... We'll see.

How out of touch do you have to be to not have expected the outcry? Reinstating him and then firing him hours later just shows that they somehow thought this was all gonna blow over.

I hope this shitbag saved a bunch of money because I honestly don’t know where a guy like him gets a job.

I mean who would touch him with a ten foot pole? You couldn’t even have this guy bag groceries at your store because someone would see it, post a picture on Twitter, and then all 300,000,000 users would metaphorically burn your establishment to the ground.

Wow!

(Maryland President Wallace D. Loh, who on Tuesday announced that he would retire from his post, said in a letter posted online that he met with campus leaders and the “overwhelming majority of stakeholders” voiced “serious concerns” about Durkin’s return.

This is not at all a reflection of my opinion of Coach Durkin as a person," he said. “However, a departure is in the best interest of the university, and this afternoon Coach Durkin was informed that the university will part ways.”)

The Board of Regents are all beholden to the big donors. They should all be fired. Poor leadership and no ethics.

Yep, and now that they reinstated him first, they'll have to pay him his buyout. Right?
I saw on twitter they fired him without cause and have to buy him out for the full remainder of his contract.
