Dan Dakich is sick of Iowa state

This matchup reminds me of the Tom Davis era. Every year, it seemed like they would pair Iowa against a run-and-gun team and every year, Iowa would win that first game because their opponent couldn't do what Iowa did better than Iowa. They were seeded lower because they really weren't as good as Iowa. I see the same thing here. The team I was worried about before the pairings were announced was Arkansas-LR. I watched them play and love them...but would hate to have to play them.

Yeah, but those Iowa teams were 8 and 9 seeds that would eventually get destroyed in the next game against Kentucky or Duke. They weren't rewarded with a 4 seed by finishing in the middle of the conference.

Dan is pizzed off that ISU got the 4 seed, when Indiana should have. Looking at the RPI they both should have been 6 seeds, but they jumped ISU two lines up to the #4 seed, and Indiana to the #5 seed. Indiana should have jumped to the 4 seed I think as well by the fact they won the B1G.

Indiana would destroy ISU by double digits....Dakich has a point (glad his attention is towards ISU than Iowa....he's like a dog to a bone, once he gets on something he stays on it til the fan base hates him.....he really loves that)....

What did ISU do to get a 4? Their best road wins are Cincinnati, Kansas State and Oklahoma State. One of these teams is in the field...as a 9 seed. Our best road wins were Purdue, Michigan State and Michigan. All 3 of these are in the field.

And most other teams have bad losses which clearly the commitee dings teams based on why monmouth got left out. Dont think ISU has a bad loss

So Iona is playing in a different location?

No, my point is that since ISU is thin on personnel, fatigue & possibly the thin air might plague them....I realize Iona is there also and could also have the effects of a higher altitude.....I just feel they have a longer bench....That's why they play the game.....we'll see

Just said on Bracketology, "I'm sick of everyone at ESPN telling me how great Iowa State is. George Niang, The Mayor, blah blah blah. Then they lose in the 1st or 2nd round."

LOL, Dakich redeems himself.:D

I'm no ISU fan but apparently Dakich doesn't pay that close of attention. Didn't ISU do pretty well the few years prior to last year in the NCAAs?

Last year, I made the mistake of listening to him when I did my brackets and they sucked. Not this year.

ISU is over seeded by almost any metric you look at. AP ranking, they aren't a top 16 team. RPI they aren't a top 16 team. KenPom they aren't a top 16 team. They tied for 5th place in a 10 team league, they didn't win a single game in their conference tournament.

This is is the best case seeding for ISU, and really shouldn't have been this high unless they won the Big12 tournament. They should have been a 5 or 6 seed.

This is your argument? Most other teams also have good wins...on the road. Take a look at the analysis I was kind enough to provide.

The committee clearly didn't think much of the Big 10. So Iowa's 7 seed makes sense relative to how the other Big 10 teams were seeded IMO.

The committee clearly loves the Big 12. But Iowa State's seed doesn't make sense relative to how the other Big 12 teams were seeded IMO.

1 (Seed) - Kansas = 1-1 (vs. ISU)
2 - Oklahoma = 2-1
3 - West Virginia = 2-0
5 - Baylor = 2-0
6 - Texas = 1-1
8 - Texas Tech = 1-1

Iowa State is 4-9 against the other 6 Big 12 teams in the tournament...no road wins and couldn't protect their home court. Kansas, Oklahoma, West Virginia and Texas all finished ahead of Iowa State in the conference standings. Baylor tied Iowa State in the standings but swept them.

So Baylor is a 5. Texas is a 6. And Iowa State is a 4. There's no logic here whatsoever. Iowa State's best road win (and only road win against a team in the NCAA field is @ Cincinnati). Texas Tech's win at Baylor is just as good. So Iowa State should be a 7 or 8 seed IMO. I can't fathom how they end up a 4.

Edit - And what does Monmouth getting left out have to do with Iowa State being seeded 3 seeds too high?

Where teams finished in their conference doesn't matter and hasn't for a long time.

ISU has 7 top 50 wins, IU has 6. ISU has one loss to a team over RPI 33, and it was UNI at 73. IU has losses to 141, 124, and 154.

i don't totally agree with it, but that is why ISU is seeded higher than IU.

2nd round? They have to get by Iona first. . . Hampton, UAB, Iona.

The Hampton game definitely has bearing on this week's game...good call.

They'll be ready for Iona. Purdue will be tough with their bigs though and will be favored I bet.

Did you say they'll be ready for UAB last year?

I don't think he's saying the Hampton game has any bearing on the outcome of the game against Iona. Just pointing out that there's a little bit of a trend developing where ISU overlooks their opponent.

It blows my mind that ISU got a 4 seed and Iowa a 7.

Personally I had ISU as a 5 so I'm surprised to see them as a 4 as well. My guess as to reasons why ISU got a 4 and Iowa got a 7 (I had them at a 6):

-Iowa State has 7 top 5 rpi wins to Iowa's 5.

-Among Iowa's five, one was to Wichita State who didn't have Van Fleet. One was against MSU who didn't have Valentine.

-Iowa lost 6 of their last 8. The committee is not supposed to take into account how you do down the stretch but they inherently do.

-ISU does not have a bad loss. Their worst loss is to tourney team rpi #74 UNI. Iowa has a couple of bad losses (penn state, illinois ect)

-ISU played in the number one rpi conference. Granted the big 12 has been crap in the dance lately, but seeding is still based on regular season.

-Also don't forget SMU and Louisville are out so that helped ISU get a bump up as well.

FWIW - Iona is rated higher in KenPom than Temple. ISU got a tough 13 seed to face.

I think last year they were ready and then they got up 12-2 and thought they could coast. Nope, obviously went horrible from there. I just think knowing this is Niang's last chance, he's not going to let them lose first round.

This is terrible logic. That's not how basketball works and it drives me nuts when I hear it about any star player. I've heard this exact phrase used this year prior to losses. George was great against OU but he's still only 1 guy.

Not trying to use logic. I just think he, the other seniors, and the other guys on the team aren't going to let it happen first round. Just an opinion man....just an opinion :)
