Dan Dakich is sick of Iowa state

Somehow Chris Williams and his Cyclonefanatic cult have used Dakich's and maybe two other ESPN talking heads remarks as their own false narrative of "everyone is picking against the Cyclones so they'll win now" when in reality it's maybe 3 people. Williams has this fanbase believing they are David battling Goliath in the first game against freaking Iona. Every logical metric that factors into an actual outcome of a game benefits Iowa State. Nevermind they are a 4 seed, better team, loads more talent, better coached, more NCAA tournaments, All-American players than Iona. But they ignore those metrics and want to use the "Iowa State against the world" (Chris Williams actually wrote a story saying this) mentality they've conjured up. Where they come up with these narratives is baffling.

It blows my mind that ISU got a 4 seed and Iowa a 7.

Reputation and bias. ISU has had a positive reputation since Hoiberg and have Niang narrative to go along with Big 12 bias. Iowa on the other hand is only in 3rd year of tourney in a row with the reputation of late season collapses and plays in a down Big 10. Until the selection process is completely computer based there will forever be a human bias factor in the committee.

This is your argument? Most other teams also have good wins...on the road. Take a look at the analysis I was kind enough to provide.

The committee clearly didn't think much of the Big 10. So Iowa's 7 seed makes sense relative to how the other Big 10 teams were seeded IMO.

The committee clearly loves the Big 12. But Iowa State's seed doesn't make sense relative to how the other Big 12 teams were seeded IMO.

1 (Seed) - Kansas = 1-1 (vs. ISU)
2 - Oklahoma = 2-1
3 - West Virginia = 2-0
5 - Baylor = 2-0
6 - Texas = 1-1
8 - Texas Tech = 1-1

Iowa State is 4-9 against the other 6 Big 12 teams in the tournament...no road wins and couldn't protect their home court. Kansas, Oklahoma, West Virginia and Texas all finished ahead of Iowa State in the conference standings. Baylor tied Iowa State in the standings but swept them.

So Baylor is a 5. Texas is a 6. And Iowa State is a 4. There's no logic here whatsoever. Iowa State's best road win (and only road win against a team in the NCAA field is @ Cincinnati). Texas Tech's win at Baylor is just as good. So Iowa State should be a 7 or 8 seed IMO. I can't fathom how they end up a 4.

Edit - And what does Monmouth getting left out have to do with Iowa State being seeded 3 seeds too high?

Iowa State should have been a 5 or 6 seed. Saying they should be a 7 or 8 is wrong

Williams is the perfect fit for clown nation. Perfect.

Not trying to use logic. I just think he, the other seniors, and the other guys on the team aren't going to let it happen first round. Just an opinion man....just an opinion :)
I'm sure Woody and the boys said the same thing at the start of the B1G Tourney. Also, you can't sell me on the 6th place team in the Big12 being seeded higher than the undisputed B1G Champion.

I think this is what Dakich was complaining about really. ISU as a 4 seed is a joke really. Like I said there isn't a metric out there that supports this kind of ranking. I don't think even the most homer of homer ISU fans thought they'd get a #4 seed after they lost the first round of the Big12 tourney.

I've been sick of Dakich for over a year now. The guy is just someone that is trying to make a bigger name for himself. He will go after Iowa, Iowa State, ect., but he wouldn't think of going after Ohio State, one of the Michigan schools, Illinois, ect. He will only say positive things about the bigger states.

Iowa State getting a 4 seed is probably the biggest seeding error of this year's tournament. They should be a 7 IMO...relative to how other teams in their conference were seeded. If someone thinks there was a bigger miss please point it out to me.

I'm not hating on ISU. I think it was a mistake is all. And I don't think the committee did them any favors with Purdue lurking in the next round...assuming Purdue doesn't fall victim to the dreaded 12 vs. 5 upset special.

I disagree about ISU facing Purdue. ISU will out run Purdue easily. Purdue won't be able to keep up with ISU, and Niang is a nightmare matchup for Purdue. They can't put Swanigan on him, Niang will torch the sh!t out him much like Uthoff did playing outside in.

I think ISU got the easiest 5 draw out of all the 4 seeds.

What source are you using to arrive at this conclusion? I defer to Kenpom rankings. Below are each of the 5 seed's rankings.

10 - Purdue
14 - Indiana
23 - Maryland
24 - Baylor

According to Kenpom Iowa State got the toughest draw of the 5 seeds.

What makes you think this will be an uptempo game? Purdue plays defense. Iowa State doesn't play defense. It's hard to "out run" Purdue when Purdue is making the majority of their shots...giving them time to get back. And when Purdue does miss they will most likely get the rebound. Purdue's rebound margin is +10.1...3rd best in the nation. Iowa State's rebound margin is -.1.

I told you right in the post what my source was.......that source is ME.

I never said ISU plays defense, doesn't mean they can't beat Purdue.

Purdue isn't going far in the NCAA tournament, they simply don't have the guard play to advance very far. I would say this no matter who they faced in the NCAA. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if they lose vs Ark. Little Rock in the first round.

Do you think Baylor should have been ahead of them? They only had 5 RPI top 50 wins to Iowa State's 7. Texas? Same number of RPI wins but had an anchor TCU loss.

Don't you ISU fan's lecture everyone on how great the "round robin" schedule is? If so, shouldn't it mean something?

FWIW - Iona is rated higher in KenPom than Temple. ISU got a tough 13 seed to face.

And.. it starts.

Hey Mj4cy, this means you must also think that ISU is seeded too high (kenpom would have them a #5 seed) and that Iowa is seeded too low (Kenpom would have them #5 as well).

It also means you think Iowa should have a better seed than:

Maryland
Cal
Duke
Baylor
Seton Hall
Utah
Texas

Because you know Kenpom has Iowa higher than every one of these teams.

You might want to take a look at ISU's games against Baylor. Baylor's big men destroyed ISU. Motley scored 27 in both games, 16 points above his season average. McKay might be able to control Hammons, but who is going to match up on Swanigan? And I wouldn't be surprised to see Haas try to rough it up a little to maybe draw McKay and Niang into some retaliation fouls.
