Carton Ready to Cut It Down to Top 3

Michigan I get, but what have Indiana and OSU done lately? Whatever. Carton is overrated anyways.

Fran can’t keep losing these recruiting battles for top in-state kids and expect to keep his job, can he?

Is that officially from Carton? It could be accurate, but it looks like it was tweeted by a Michigan associated account, and it was posted the day before he stated he would announce. Then again, I'm not on Twitter, so I'm not sure how to interpret that.

Sure hope Iowa is in the top 3, but lets face it is Fran misses here and Xavier his time is up and he needs to get fired asap. Missing 2 huge names in your back yard is not acceptable.

Fran has been a mediocre recruiter from the beginning.

i don't agree with this. sure he's missed on some kids and pg has been a particular problem recently. but he started with juco cartwright, then gessel. that was 5 season we were ok at pg. fran's been here for 8 seasons. so, to me, it's a recent phenomenon.

but fran has been really good recruiting wings and front court guys, other than center; but Garza fixes that.

Come on now. You know he's too flashy for Iowa.

no, that isn't why. he's a scoring first pg. iowa needs a true pg that is quick, has strength physically and with the ball and who plays defense so that JBo can slide to sg. right now, dj is a try to score from jump street and that isn't what we need, right now. not saying dj isn't a good player. obviously he is. just saying he isn't what iowa needs. and i've been saying that for a couple of months.

Carton is very physical and is a good defender. He sees the floor very well and can pass.

I got a chance to see what he had to work with in the tournament a few weeks ago. It's not Wieskamp and Muscatine, but it's not far off.

You put DJ with capable players around him and he'll flourish. He's exactly what Iowa needs.

One recruit here and there does not a good recruiter make. That's actually the definition of mediocre recruiting. And his record reflects his recruiting.

It very well could end up being Michigan, Indiana and Ohio State but I don't think anybody reporting on it is doing anything beyond speculating. The family and those around him have been silent. He hasn't even done an interview since his official visits.

fair enough, rob. i've not seen 5* skills from him, particularly ball handling. i've never seen dj play, but i've spoken to a lifelong friend who had a nephew that played for Assumption. my friend watch both JW and DJ the past couple seasons and his assessment is different than yours re: dj. again, you could be right or wrong. right now either one of us could be right or wrong and now it's all left to speculation.

but i would suggest taking a look and noah hutchins, if you haven't, and see what i'm talking about. i think this is the kid that gets an iowa offer soon.

I like Hutchins but I’d much prefer DJC. He finishes at the rim extremely well because he’s very strong. It makes him very difficult to guard and I did not see any issue with ball handling. He’s a streaky outside shooter. He reminds me of Jalen Brunson.

The parallel I was making with JW was that DJC doesn’t have a lot around him. He’s forced to score. Much like I expect with JW at Iowa this year, DJC will take his game to another level when more talent is around him.
