I think Campbell felt boxed in by Pollard's conservatism on a number of issues. Pollard hasn't exactly updated his methods with the times. When the Penn State job opened up Campell saw the resources and opportunity and jumped ship.
Iowa State had a lot of good years with Campell. Now is the hangover after the party.
Undoubtedly that was part of it, but the stuff earlier in this thread was just blatantly untrue.
His budget at PSU is more than 2x that of Iowa State. Iowa State will be 14 million, PSU has guaranteed him 30+ million.
These type of jobs don’t open often and it’s probably the only one he would get. I don’t think there is more to it than that.
He ain't winning 9 next year if his roster is full ISU port-holesI think Campbell liked the stability at Iowa State. Iowa State could also win in the current Big 12.
9-3 is probably the basement at Penn State. Any lower than that and the grumbling will begin in earnest. There will be a lot of pressure to make the CFP at least twice in the next four years. That will be a tall order.
