Campbell over/under

McCarney did well with attaining 7 win seasons and they didn't think that was enough. Maybe they've learned from that.
5 out of 12 years. While that is attaining it isn't even maintaining. Nobody is happy with 7 wins per year if it's never improved upon.

There are a few reasons, especially with a young coach. What are his aspirations? Does he want to be the best and win a NC? If so, he won't be there long.

Is he content to make 3 mill a year and raise his children in Ames? Then I could see him being there for a few years or if he thinks Ames is a great place to put your children thru school. Those decisions come into play with a young coach.

So, kind of depends on his goals, aspirations, and what is best for his family.
Agree. There's probably less than a dozen people in the world who actually know. I bet none post on message boards.

Well, you aren't aware of Iowa States history? 5 out of 12 is pretty good for that program. No other coach has been close.

I hope he sticks around for a while. I think he's a solid coach and like to see Iowa State do well. It's only good for the entire state when both teams do well, as well as N. Iowa.

I'm more aware of ISU's history than most. 5/12 was good but not good enough going forward.

How about 7 win average over 10 years with highs of 10 wins and 2 seasons of low 4 or 5 wins. Making 8 out of 10 bowls and maybe just maybe a Big 12 Championship and your first New Year's 6 bowl? Would ISU fans like yourself subscribe to that future?

I would say that it is in the realm of plausibility. Campbell is trending up and the Big 12 is trending down. That could spell good things for ISU if Campbell sticks around and keeps building on defense.

I for one am ready for this state to step its game up. I'm ready for ISU to take Iowa's place as the salty unit that could bite anyone any time and Iowa to ascend to B1G West powerhouse.

I for one cant wait to see if both Iowa and ISU are ranked heading into the CyHawk game next year. I think Iowa is a lock for preseason top 25. ISU has a ways to go, but its possible they finish strong and roll some hype into the offseason. Let's turn this game up and make it mean something.

It is a pretty good gig for him financially and I think he has grade school aged kids, right? If his wife wants him to stay put until the kids are in college, he won’t be going anywhere.

If his wife is an Ohio girl that wants to get out of Iowa, he will jump. I truly have no idea on her background - anyone know? I am also just guessing at the kid’s ages...

If mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy.

Mary Ferentz LOVED Iowa City and when Kirk had all of those opportunities in ‘02 - ‘04, I will bet she had a pretty big say in keeping Kirk here. (Zero inside info, btw)

During a part of the season, the one that beat the 2002 Iowa team comes to mind.

I think they were 6-1 at one point, with a wins over Oklahoma and Iowa, and a close loss to Florida St. that involved some shaky officiating. They then tanked horrendously from there, not sure what happened.

They lost by over 50 points and 40 points in games at end of season. One reason that 2002 team does not compare to Campbell's teams.

Why would Campbell leave that glorious water supply behind? He won't fine water like that anywhere else in the country.

I'm already on board with Campbell. 4/5 win seasons aren't acceptable but if there is ONE he certainly won't get fired. Bad seasons are tolerated based on equity. The fact that I feel like we have a chance in every game we play is a new feeling and good for now. I'll adjust accordingly. I feel like ISU can be the 3rd/4th best B12 program IF he stays. Or at least in the ballpark. The TCU loss hurts. They aren't good and our QB threw for a whopping 79 yards. Wish Purdy would have played but that's nit-picking.

The hatred is simple -

Iowa has 4 million people. It produces around ten D1 starter level kids per year in football. It can't sustain two quality D1 P5 teams.

In addition, Ames is closer to two top 100 population metro areas in Des Moines and Omaha. In short, if ISU gets good, Iowa will decline and corporate booster support cod switch swiftly to ISU. During basketball season, almost all the talk in DSM is already about the Cyclones. Give Kieth Murphy a chance to bury the Hawkeye football program for good, and he'll do it without blinking an eye.

Campbell needs to go and Iowa needs to keep beating ISU and Nebraska, because otherwise we aren't going to be getting the top oline prospects in this region anymore.

The hell are you talking about? The U is in a great city and plays in a cathedral of college football. The U is the top dog for Des Moines metro kids, and it isn't close.

As far as Keith Murphy is concerned, I've never heard him say anything derogatory about The U unless they deserved it.

You shouldn't have lost that TCU game. They're always pretty solid on D but better QB play probably could have put ISU over the top in that one. Although a hobbled Montgomery didn't help either.

Nebraska should have hired this young coach. Campbell has a very bright future. I actually hope he stays at Iowa State. It would be good for the entire state.

Nebraska would have been a lateral move at that point.

If OSU or Notre Dame or the like came calling nobody could fault him for taking a job like that.

I think he’ll stay as long as that Purdy kid is there at QB or until he gets a big time offer whichever comes first. So far it’s really looking like he hit the jackpot getting that kid over Alabama.

Funny he was the 3rd stringer. How long til Zeb Noland takes the transfer? Kempt probably never sees another play. Iowa killed him.

One of them will play some this year. Purdy will miss some snaps due to injury or getting his bell rung and if Kempt is healthy he will play some.
