Biggest Case of Sour Grapes Ever

Why are people so mad at that guy? Heck Da Haters seemed just as butthurt with the Iowa win as that guy was.
LLLLLOL. With the title thread, that's actually what I thought this thread was about -- butthurt Iowa fans in a win.

I'm ready to move on. From his video it sounds like this one has cost him financially. I wouldn't want what he said to cost him his lively hood or hurt his family in any way. I wish we had a vblogger that was as passionate as he is.

I think the video will embed on here using this link:

That is why he's doing this.... I found what he did originally funny... He couldn't offend me if he tried honestly. Folks that get bent out of shape on guys flying off the handle saying things like that shouldn't be sports fans... Take it for what it is. He's a FAN with a microphone. It'd be no different than if Jon Miller did the same thing. He thought he was preaching to his choir. He wasn't trying to pander to Iowa fans and why should he? There's no law saying you have to be gracious in defeat. Lord knows Iowa fans haven't always been that either. Who ever the Iowa fans are that went after his sponsors are pretty much low lives. Do they not have anything better to do with themselves? Enjoy the win. Clearly the loss hurts him so leave it at that. Let the folks that actually subscribe and are fans of his dictate if they want to continue doing so and his sponsors can decide for themselves. For Iowa fans to 'go after' them is just petty, vindictive and beyond unnecessary.

Yeah he seems okay. He needs to come up to Iowa City for a game day sometime and maybe he could host all of us down there for a MS game and tailgater.

Well if you're saying he's just a fan with a microphone going after fans and a team/state they just lost to, then what's the difference if fans of that team go after him and his team/state. The guy even admitted that. i didn't watch his petty rant so I don't care either way.

And by the way, Jon Miller wouldn't do the same thing. Not even in an 'what if' world.

It would be funny as heck if he did tho. :)

Jon and Rob are far more professional than that guy and they both understand the importance of protecting their brands. The guy said in his apology that he has press privileges through the school, so he's certainly not just an average fan. A guy in that position has no business judging a team's athletes based on their race and that was what he did.

Being a fan, or drunk, or stupid, or some combination, never serves as an excuse for spouting overtly racist statements. NEVER. And, common sense would say that if you are running a podcast with press privileges through a university, you are more than "a fan with a mic." He's in a different category, and should know better.

That said, I don't condone fans trying to ruin his life, but, I don't necessarily feel sorry for him either. He made his bed, and now he's trying to put the toothpaste back into the tube. I'll accept his apology, and hope that this episode serves as a lesson for him moving forward.

There's a big difference between regretting being caught - with all the accompanying financial repercussions - and actually regretting what you did... Hopefully, someday he'll understand that.

I was refering to the part of Iowa fans going after his sponsors. His lively hood. I don't care if you just want to pester him back about just the sports side of it. That's fine and fair game. To each their own there. But for Iowa fans to go after his sponsors (whoever they are I doubt he's got any nationally big companies but maybe I have no clue) to get them to quit sponsoring him is below the belt to me.
Now that said if those sponsors got wind of what he did on their own and decided that's not cool to them and pull out then that would be what it is too. But I don't get the impression that's how it went down... It sounds like the same Iowa fans that Andy Fales often makes fun of for being over top nuts lived up to their reputations and went after them to do what he says they did...

But can something be a 'racist' comment when white is the color of topic? Can there be any middle ground on something like that? Because you have a valid point. If he or anyone else used the opposite color in a similar rant we all know how that'd go down... The dude would have to move to Canada just about.
The sponsors that did pull out I'm sure didn't do it due to the racial component of it at all so much as just the backlash of negative feedback from however many nutty Iowa fans did whatever they did threatening them. Because there is no worse label now than being called racist pretty much. If that was why sponsors were pulling out they'd all have jumped ship not just a few if it was even more than one. So they must not think it was racist or not care right?
That double standard is there. I'm no judge and jury on the topic. Just bringing up the questions and pointing out what I see

They held us to -15 yards rushing and 199 total yards. They have the better defense by a long shot. They dropped 2 TD passes on offense and had a bunch of stupid penalties. Their offense gifted us a couple touchdowns by putting their defense in terrible situations. We didn't sustain a long drive all day. Yes a win is a win, but lets not go overboard.

To be fair, we gifted them two touchdowns as well.

I made it about ten seconds. Pretty funny though, hearing a fat white guy from Mississippi cry about losing to slow white guys.

In Mississippi, you've got 1) black folks stuck in poverty engendered by decade upon decade of forced servitude and then systematic oppressive racism; 2) college kids prepping to GTFO and 3) a bunch of fat white trash.

And cowbells.

I count that 12 yard punt as a gift as well, it led to their 2nd field goal.

The person you replied to also mentioned that Iowa had no sustained drives. Actually Iowa had the longest sustained drive between both schools, it was a 10 play drive that lasted 5:43. It only led to a field goal but it's still a sustained drive.

It's a can-of-worms discussion, since everybody would have their own interpretation of the semantics, but, IMHO, anytime a person is attacked by using a stereotype about his/her race, that is racism. The race in question doesn't matter. Saying in effect (to paraphrase him), "Get your slow white asses out of here," or "...getting beat in basketball by a bunch of Opie Taylors," implies that being white is inherently unathletic and/or slow. It also could be construed as an insult to African Americans, in that there is an implication that if you're black you must be a great athlete. Obviously, that in and of itself is not an insult, but, it does perpetuate a stereotype that many would find offensive (much like if you are Asian, well, you must be good with computers, etc.).

That said, count me in the category that feels our culture has become waaaay too sensitive, and I'm firmly of the belief that the PC stuff has gotten out of control. I don't hold any ill-will towards him at all, but, it does need to be called out for what it is, and, that being an emotional fan is not an excuse.

Meh, while Mississippi is the armpit of the South in that it, along with Arkansas, has terrible college football and lacks a historic NASCAR track, I'd still prolly rather live there than Kansas or Nebraska.

There's the old stereotype, which is still mostly true, of slower white guys handing it off or throwing it to faster black guys. Your eyes aren't deceiving you. It's kind of a running joke, but the stereotypes and assumptions undoubtedly affect where athletes are positioned on football teams by themselves and their coaches.

When you have players that defy the stereotypes, it engenders attention.

That's not racism.

Racism is a set of attitudes that engender the use of institutional power to oppress another on the basis of ethnicity, and is the province of stupid people and those who pander to them. Fun fact: Racism in America was essentially invented as a rationale for the subjugation of African slaves; the economic argument wasn't compelling enough to justify it, so, with a big assist from "Christianity," its purveyors created the construct that darker skinned people were inherently inferior creatures suited only for hard labor. As anyone who has traveled in the south can attest, it was full of rubes stupid enough to buy the argument.
