My eyes watching the game told me that Miss. St. was hard pressed to score points unless set up with good field position by an Iowa turnover. Same thing for Iowa. The game was about turnovers and short fields. It isn't like Miss. St. turned the ball over 5 times to Iowas 1 time.
Iowa scored 17 points off TO with short fields, and Miss. St. scored 13 points off TO with short fields. Take those away and Iowa's offense managed to scored 10 points to Miss. St. 9 points (3 FG). The last I checked the game is about scoring points. Who cares if Miss. St. gained 29 yards then punted, or if Iowa lost 5 yards and then punted, both drives ended in punts. The bottom line is Iowa's offense produced more points than the Miss. St. offense both with the aid of TO, and without the aid of TO.
This ^^ is stupid. Iowa has lost a ton of games over the last 20 years when they were the better team. It happens on certain days when you make more mistakes. Football is a game of mistakes, missed tackles, miss blocks, missed opportunities, dropped passes.
Looking only at stats and not sorting out the big plays is stupid. Remember Iowa at Minny in 2010 I think when Coker ran for like 250 yards but the hawks couldnt finish, missed a couple FGs, etc, and in 2011. Those were terrible just terrible gopher teams.
Yeah Facts don't give the result i want so lets just use the I WATCHED the game argument, because it means so much over FACTS!

The poster said the "the eye test says they played better", by that I assumed he meant what he/she saw from watching the game.
But, no, I don't believe the "FACTS" (as in the statistics) tell the full story in this game.

BIG East Division was 1-3.

However, I feel smart enough to think you're asking a trick question, so I'm asking, is this a trick question? Or, am I dumb enough to think you're asking a trick question because I don't want to feel more dumb than I really am, so I'm being tricked into asking if this is a trick question? I like how people were saying "some bozo, or "random" guy" comes on here and starts a post like this, DeanL is a legend on HN whether you like his takes or not and always lets motherf*ckers know what's up. It hurts because unlike a TON of posters on here, IMO, he sees things for what they are broad picture IMO. He's been vocal about his displeasure with Iowa athletics plenty, but he also realizes how good of a football program they have. One that wins as consistently as any in college football. One that just had only it's 14th season with 9 or more wins in school history. One that before Ferentz got to Iowa, had only won 8 bowl games EVER, and now have done that under Kirk Ferentz. Less than a week ago, Lightning1 (who everyone seems to enjoy takes from and personally so do I)said that this staff wasn't even trying or putting effort to fielding a good football team. That's a bad take and people who constantly hammer this website with that trash need to be put on blast for it.

The haters are the ones that look outside the box and don't like how embarrassing the team looks on tv. Don't like how announcers know nothing about the team because of that embarrassment. Don't like the national perception that leads to the embarrassment. Don't like the lack of recruiting and usage of skill players.
If you enjoy watching the same run play over and over and over go for, as the stats say, -1 yard on average, and throw insults at people who just don't enjoy the win then i guess you're not a "hater." Sorry, I can be pissed at how terrible this team must look from outsiders which obviously leads to the lack of respect we get.
I'm not sure how people can ignore the stats, the coach blunders, clock mismanagement, misuse of skill players, terrible playcalling and think.. You know, that was fun to watch and we won. NAw, I'll be a realist and think Good god, that was the least innovative play calling in a decade. Ferentz 2.0 is gone.. The players, in the end, played above their coaching and got the win.
And ps. If your a blow hard and throw the most insults and call the most people names because their opinions are different than yours.... your a dbag.
