Are we the third best team in Iowa?

Yeah Bohannon was so far off of him he couldn't work him off the dribble. I honestly thought McCloud would be pretty decent this year but he's been terrible which is frustrating since I'm also a UNI fan. He absolutely kills their spacing

You know I was a fan of Mike, and he did the same thing to Iowa the last 4 years (hurt spacing that is). Jordan is gonna be a good one, he already makes a HUGE difference on the floor to space it for Pete and others. I simply can't believe that you can't see this, it is as plain as day, and you pretend it isn't happening.

He definitely helps with spacing. If he's open he's going to make it, he takes some questionable 3's but he's shooting 36.8% from 3 so you really can't complain about that. It's not outstanding but definitely respectable. Playing with Jok helps him out a lot so it'll be interesting to see how he does in the future. I'm not sure who our knock down 3 point guy will be next year but we'll be loaded with bigs so if he can feed the post like he has he still should get some assists even if they are fake assists like Mike had according to PC. Hopefully Fran can hide him on defense and for the love of God please stop having him inbound the ball from underneath the hoop. He's too small to make that work and that's a turnover waiting to happen. To answer your question though I think his ceiling is being an average Big 10 player and I don't think he'd be starting on most major conference teams. Also he needs to be told he's not allowed to try to take the ball to the rim because bad things happen

Some assists are better than others. Anyone with half a brain knows this. If you want to debate what percentage of assists were actually good plays by Mike, that's fine. But quit with the fake assists bit.

I just think it's funny you said Mike's assists weren't that impressive because he wasn't a drive and kick guy (which was proven to be incorrect) and now you're pumping up Bohannon's assist numbers when his are even less impressive

Mike was NOT a drive and dish guy. Mike was a drive and get blocked/miss the shot/turn it over guy. Once he got past the elbow he was pretty much worthless....if he pulled up he had about a 45% chance to hit that shot.

He had more drive and dish assists than you remember. Another poster debunked PC's myth that he only ever got assists passing to Uthoff or Jok on the perimeter by showing some highlights of "impressive" assists. It's funny how PC wasn't impressed by Mike's assists but is by Bohannon's when those are even less impressive by his standards

I couldn't tell you how many drives and assists that Mike had. All I know is that I'm the guy who told everyone for 2 years that when Mike was a Jr and Sr. that he would learn to finish at the rim and not be so bad at it......I was wrong, clear through his last game he was still very poor when driving to the rim, the missed shots, blocked shots and turnovers were frustrating to say the least.

I think this is the biggest reason most soured on Mike. I didn't discount his whole game, and still feel he was a very good PG. He just never did go much at the rim is all.

He was terrible at finishing at the rim I agree. Still frustrated he never added a floater to his game. He was great at creating points with his pull up game and was excellent at creating and passing to get his teammates shots. He didn't turn the ball over much

PC said Mike setting the school record for most assists in a season wasn't impressive because they weren't "impressive" assists. I know you don't like me but even you can agree that's stupid

Wait I was proved wrong by a poster who linked a video with one drive and dish assist? I guess I'll link a video of him finishing at the rim once to prove to everyone how good he was at it.

I never said he was good at finishing at the rim

Reasons Mike had a lot of assists.

1- He played a ton of minutes.
2- there are more games in a season than there used to be.
3- he plays in an uptempo offense.
4- he had two of the best jump shooters to play at Iowa in a long time to dump the ball to and let them shoot it.
5- he very rarely shot the ball himself.

I wouldn't put Gesell on a top 20 list of best Hawkeye passers. Just like I wouldn't put the 2nd leading scorer in hawkeye history on a top 20 list of scorers. And I'm not pumping up JBs passing because of his assist numbers. I'm pumping up hos passing because of watching the games and seeing him create offense for others

No you said he wasn't good at it, and you're right. But I'm sure I can find one highlight and "prove you wrong" like the other poster who found one highlight and "proved me wrong".

It was more than one. You can just admit you're being a hypocrite saying Mike's assists weren't impressive but then pretend like Bohannon's are

I'm not saying all 20 weren't impressive. I'm saying an overly small percentage of them were. Like I've said before, I've thought "nice pass" more times with JB in 11 games than I did in at least an entire year with Mike.

I also know without a doubt that if Jok wasn't on the team JB would have quite a few less assists. I don't care one bit about assist numbers. I care about players making tough passes that put their teammates in a position to score where they otherwise wouldn't have been able to. That's something JB has done pretty well and Mike never really did. But also it's why JB has more turnovers than Mike did. Mike was Jake Rudock. Too afraid to make a mistake to try to make a play.

Haha you're unbelievable

How many times over the last few years has a post player had good position and never got the ball? How many times has that happened this year?

The guy that set the school record for most assists in a season wasn't good at putting his teammates in position to score. Haha

How could you possibly not agree with the Rudock comparison? That's exactly how he played. Until the last 2 minutes of a close game that is.

You're delusional. This might be worse than when you said CW would be a scorer this year
