Apathy has set in

It has BEEN a historically bad time for Hawkeye sports for years now! A while back, there were posts on Barta's athletic department bieng dead last in the B1G in overall chapionships since 2010 or so.
I hear ya....I laugh too, except is isn’t funny.

Yes, I think Kirk should walk away. Unfortunately I believe Barta will then name Brian as head coach. This will really tick off fans, and will be the final straw that drives the program into the ground.

Either way, we’re screwed.

Well with any AD worth their salt, I seriously doubt they would offer a head coaching job in a power five conference to Brian. Thus far it’s questionable that he is even qualified to be an offensive coordinator at a power five program.

What throws this all up in the air is the “Barta” affect. God only know what he is capable of doing. I hope your wrong. The football program is stale and really could use a complete make over. It may not work, but what the hell is it really working right now???

Dean, you used to come on here and beat the hell out of people who made intelligent observations about KF concerns. What is happening wasn't new then and was indicative of bigger issues and it's sure not new now.

I go where the coaching staff takes me. You weren't around here, but before the '15 season I was calling for Kirk's head. We had too many average or poor seasons in a row, so I felt it was time for a change, so I voiced that opinion.

The last couple years we were coming off a 12 win season, and won 8 games each year. Now that is going to be three years in a row of 8 wins (or less even more than likely). So yeah, the 12 win season has faded far into the rear view mirror now. So I voice what I think.

I am actually one of the few on here that isn't just a total hater or total shill for Kirk. It isn't my fault that some dummies on here can't actually read what I post and understand this.

Hate to pile on but dude you’ve been roasting folks for criticizing Iowa athletics the last three years all while telling us how great a hire BF was. Now you want be a drama king about it? Maybe start dealing some apologies out first...then we’ll talk.

I thought the only way the program would change is if Brian was moved into the OC spot. I think many changes have occurred because of Brian. It hasn't really worked, but the offense is much more aggressive than it ever was. Going for it all the time, trying to go 70 yards before the half to score. Stepping on lesser opponents throats and finishing them.

I never once guaranteed Brian would be some home run hire, and that everything would work. I simply said he would make changes if he was moved to OC. Plus unlike you, I hope I eat crow big time, the team wins the next 3 in a row, and has a great year next year. All you care about is being "right" about the Ferentz, and don't really want Iowa to win if Kirk is at the helm.

From a few weeks ago...

You don't think things have changed with Brian as OC? Our options under Kirk are Greg Davis or Brian. I preferred taking a chance with Brian, basically for two reasons. 1) I want someone young and hungry in there. 2) If it doesn't work we don't have to worry about Brian being the next head coach.

Idk, this board blew up pretty good. Fan apathy??
I don't think so.
This team is just soft. I haven't seen anyone just own the guy across from him all year. Not one absolutely dominating complete game.
We are getting pushed around. Jammed. Tackled to easy.
Just no fight at all.

FWiW. you are not wrong with this.

Find me where I said Brian would be some sure fire home run, and couldn't fail. I have always simply said Brian was going to be the OC at some point, so freaking just make the move now, no need to put off the inevitable.

No other OC hire would ever have been given the latitude from Kirk to do what Brian is doing, which is also why I always felt he would be the best OC for Iowa.

Apathy set in for me when Christian McCaffery housed the first play of the Rose Bowl. I knew then that all the football experts were right and we were only at that bowl because of our powderpuff schedule. At that moment I realized our once in a lifetime season was a joke. I also realized that Kirk wasn’t able to take us to anything more than an average program.

But it is 3 years later and I’m still here, so I guess I’m the joke.

That last sentence says it all...

To fully grasp how inept is Iowa's coaching, try to envision how Belichick would use two All-American, first round caliber tight ends against inferior defensive backs and linebackers.

And now you understand.

Belichick wouldn't give a QB a leash the length of Oregon Trail...

I don't know. If you wanna see apathy, go look at the basketball board. It's a ghost town over there. I know the Hawks haven't played anyone with a pulse yet, though, so we'll see what happens.

Not a real great time for Iowa sports, though. Not much reason to be excited. This football season was looking promising but a quick 3 game losing streak dashed any hope.

Me? I watch the games and post out here some, but I don't put much energy into my fandom. Pretty jaded towards it all, if you want the truth.

You're still in denial if you really think this is true.

It's not denial. If pops rides out with anything less than a B1G west championship then Brian will not be the next head coach. I don't buy your conspiracy theories.

Oh that apathy goes back more like 10 years than 3.
Agree. First BIG extension. He became Iowa "way" To the BIG BOSS OR BOSSES. Pres, regents and BOOSTERS! Name of Iowa Sports is: POWER is GOLD. Extra win a Crumb in the Wind for us Fans.Sad but we shall hope for win sat.Again Hawk Players waay Tough.Crumb in Wind a needs brewski to wash it down no? Several crumbs so mas beer por favor.Win sat a good idea.

Like I said, I think he was the best OC for Iowa, not the best OC out there.

Dean, me and you are in the exact same boat here. We don't always see eye to eye, but we have the same voting record on this matter. We were pissed off and fed up with Kirk until the miracle of 2015. We both were positive about Brian as OC. We both again now are jaded and fed up.

The thing that I can't get over is that I'm still not sure that Brian is the problem. I see Brian's youth and angst in the way this offense plays, but I also see an aggressiveness that has not been present for some time. I have to wonder if there isn't a constant clashing of philosophies between father and son. I have to wonder if this were Brian's team completely would we see a different team mentality and different results. At the end of the day Brian is a Ferentz and right now it feels like all things Ferentz should be burned like a plague riddled corpse, but it might be the best if pops pulled the health card at the beginning of next season and let Brian have a crack at interim HC. We know we aren't getting rid of either one by next year so we might as well see what we actually have in Brian. It's just like giving your back up QB a shot when your starter is stinking it up....oh wait Kirk doesn't like to do that very much.

Since the end of the 2015/2016 season Iowa sports has stopped being fun. Iowa football has officially become yet again become stale and stagnant. The promise of what could be done in the years following the historic Rose Bowl season has been completely wasted. Every time it looks like this program takes a step forward, they then follow that up by taking two steps back.

The sad part is the basketball program is even a bigger mess right now than the football program is. This is year 9 for Fran and he has 3 NCAA appearances with 2 NCAA wins. I think even Lick could have gotten Iowa BB to 3 NCAA tournaments if we had given him 9 years at Iowa.

I will watch Iowa BB today and be completely unentertained by it. I will watch Iowa football the next two weeks and probably get little joy even if we beat Ill. and Nebby at this point, and won't be shocked if we lose both of them. At this point, apathy has officially set in, even for this eternal 1/2 glass full optimist.
Welcome to the party, pal
