Can we agree to stop using "Total Offense" as our go-to metric?

We were 86th in yards per carry rushing in 2019. That is a stat that measures effectiveness and we were obviously not very good. Again Iowa hasn't broke the top 50 since 2008 and we were top 50 FIVE times between 2001 and 2008. KF said we need to look at changing our blocking scheme, and he's...

    Petras and Mansell next year

I think it would be a good idea to install some read option packages using Mansell 5-10 plays a game. Mansell would only need to know maybe 5 plays, that he knew really well from excessive practice , to give the defense fits. Nebraska played 3 QBs against us, each had their own packages, and...

    Minny-Wisky — what’s better for Hawks?

I like that Iowa would be Minnesota’s only loss so far and I’m sick of Wisconsin.

    Let the nebraska meltdown continue.

That no confidence excuse might be good for two games, not two full years.

Ohio St tearing Michigan a new one

If Michigan wants to beat tOSU they need to oust Don Brown. His style doesn’t work against teams with equal or better talent.

    Gentlemen.

If it’s a blow to the head of a defenseless player, which ISM was in this case, any blow to the head is considered targeting, including leading with the shoulder.

Tuesday Notebook: Senior Day, Injury Report, Redshirt Update

Looks like Brents will redshirt but he’s only played in one game so he could play in all the remaining games (and still redshirt).

    9-3 season still alive!!

The good news for Minnesota is they could lose next week and then beat Wisconsin and still win the west but they probably have to beat Wiscy either way, unless Purdue somehow beats Wisconsin, then Minnie can clinch with a win against NW. Wiscy probably needs to win out but they also control...

    9-3 season still alive!!

Minnesota will have to beat Wisconsin to be west champs, assuming both win next game.

    9-3 season still alive!!

Iowa should be about 2 TD favorites against both Illinois and Nebraska so 9-3 is the most likely outcome. Regardless, we’ll get their best shot. I expect Nebraska to play their best game of the year, not sure if it will be good enough.

    Meltdown will begin if............

That’s part of it. Currently Iowa is 88th in ypa rushing so there are many teams with some combination of better RB, better running QB and better blocking. I don't think our RB's are that bad. We were 100th in 2017 with Wadley. Beathard got us up to 59th in 2015, probably the best year since...

    Meltdown will begin if............

I hate to say it, I picked us to go 10-2, but 8-4 is the most likely outcome. Generally, we just aren't going to get there unless KF gives up control of the offense. I really think defenses know KF better than he knows himself, just small idiosyncrasies that add up. I think we need to revamp...

No way Penn St is the fourth best team.

I’m not sure tOSU is allowed to invoke the Alabama rule but if they were, this would be the year. I guess it kinda happened in 2014 but they didn’t take two Big Ten teams, so maybe.

No way Penn St is the fourth best team.

I don’t think Iowa would be #4 right now if undefeated, not in front of Clemson. As long as we’re talking hypothetical though, if we didn’t lose 4 guys early to the NFL we probably would be undefeated.

No way Penn St is the fourth best team.

The Big Ten and SEC, only two conferences, make up the top 4. Of course there’s no way two Big Ten teams get in.

Sell me why Iowa pulls it off in Madison

We beat Michigan in 2016 when I thought we had a snowball’s chance in hell. I think we have a better chance thus game. Also, NW and Illinois played them tough. That’s all I got.

Maybe the Huskers should give Frank Solich another shot

Nebraska was pretty bad for about 20 years before Devaney got there in 1962. They had about a 25% win rate in the 40s and 50s. It’s really what you would expect. They were able to pretty much defy gravity for about 35 years with Devaney and Osborne and they have been riding that wave down in...

    USC/Oregon

USC QB Slovis was coached by Kurt Warner at his high school, Desert Mountain in Scottsdale AZ. Kurt Warner was the OC and QB coach. I wish Iowa could hire him as a consultant or a coach.

    QB Regression

It's a concern. The NFL trainer makes it sound like a lot of college teams get it wrong. It's pretty well known that Stanley broke the max record for bench press and dead lift this summer. Why even have a max record for QBs in bench press and dead lift. Also, it's probably not without...

    QB Regression

But what Flaherty sees all the time—and what drives him mad—are young quarterbacks training exactly like their linebacker and tight end friends. While your workouts should be similar those of your teammates, certain small (but important) details can make or break your performance. Here are the...
