Prepping for a glorious 2016-17 season

While I would much rather have won the Rose bowl, the humiliating loss could be the motivation that coaches and players need to make this off-season really count. Some general thoughts to put it to good use-- 1. It was obvious that our guys had worked like dogs last off-season but if possible...

    Kirk Ferentz Presser Transcript 1/7/16

And Iowa might've done the same to msu with the 2 play brutalization. That game took a lot of mojo out of both teams. A finesse ccg woulda been in the best interest of both teams showing better in their next games. That said, hope to watch a rematch in dec.

    Hawknick

I can't claim to have read all or even most of his posts but what I did were positive and almost always backed up with (his) reasoning. Also he displayed far too much knowledge about the Iowa roster and seasons past to be anything other than a Iowa fan. I never got the impression he was a...

Question: Do you sit CJ and Let Him Get Healthy?

While CJ is our best QB even when hobbled, a hobbled CJ will likely not be enough to win the B1G championship game. There will be a step up in competition. OTH, a healthy (or healthier) CJ will prove more than a handful for anybody in the country. So remembering that the proposal to sit CJ at...

Question: Do you sit CJ and Let Him Get Healthy?

A really good question. If Iowa is 11-0 and if an extra week can benefit CJ, I would sit him against Nebraska. Even if we lose on blackfriday, CJ will give us a great chance in the B1G championship. Win the B1G and it will be nearly impossible to leave Iowa (and the entire B1G) out of the...

    Schobert on Iowa OL

Nobody thinks that schobert is doing the humble-brag? Yes, the Iowa ol is nastier than alabama but I beat up on their Qb a fair bit...

Realistically: Can CJ Avoid Injury Through the Next 7 Weeks?

Cj is far and away the most abused qb i've seen this season in cfb. Certainly none of the opposing qbs have taken hits like he has. That said, he is tough.

    Tevaun Smith injury rumor

This does suck. Not sure can be compensated for by the next man in.

What's your threshold for a raise and extension this year?

11-12 wins: extension + future perf based raise/incentives. B1G champion: Retire on his terms NC: Retire and annoint successor who is not an offspring whenever ready. If he beats tosu 59-0 or better in b1g final and gets nc, I'm OK with hereditary succession.

Iowa Offensive line grades thru 4 games:

I only watched the UNT game live. From what I recall, Iowa's OL wasn't dominant and didn't blow unt's DL off the los with any frequency. The blowout score was a result of having much better skill players (at qb/te/receivers/rbs). Conversely, Iowa's DL didn't outclass (if measured by penetration...

    ISU/Iowa thoughts

What you say may very well be true but based on the Illinois State game, Iowa's punter is also quite adept at low line drives that barely clear the los.

New Prez talks with the team

Yep, same thoughts here. I still hold out hopes for KF to pull out a great couple seasons before retiring but I'm also having visions of a dirty sob like bielema coming here and partnering with a sports sympathetic president and then ramming the b1g like nobody could imagine. Not just out-sec...

Disagree with Ross....ISU is not our Superbowl and should be looked at that way.

I felt similarly (to the OP) until last year's loss. The way things stand it's best to do what it takes even if it means circling the isu game. Once we've put them away a few times and reestablished ourselves as a contender at least in the west division, I am happy to go back to not caring about...

    EARLY 2015 Predictions for Hawkeyes

5-6 to 6-6 if Goldi gets injured (for a couple) and statue-Wiegers is the backup 6-6 to 7-5 if Goldi gets injured and Boyle is backup 9-3 to 10-2 if Goldi stays unscathed Random tidbit-- IF Iowa is good enough to start 5-0 (which they won't) and Goldi stays uninjured, 11-1 to 12-0

    Welsh back, Kornbrath gone

I wonder whether this is roster management at play. Perhaps there's a walk-on who could make a difference but can't participate otherwise. KF is doing his bit to catch up with the Urban and rest of the SEC.

    Hey look....Willies to Texas Tech

The red raiders will come to salute Iowa in gratitude after Shimonek and Wiilies take them to the promised land. Thet gotz our best qb snd rcvr. :-)

Has the view of Iowa football been this negative in the last 50 years?

98-99 were worse. And I would venture that 2013-2014 at season end felt eerily like 1996-1997. Either we pull out of the funk real soon, or pillow fights about the next coming of Stoops are about to reignite.

Iowa's Attrition: This Isn't Great News

The article is interesting in that it points out that a lot of the departures in the current cycle are being caused by "rated" guys getting beat by walk-on types-- leading to the affected rated guys walking away. One way to construe this is that Kirk evaluates walkons really well (perhaps...

Spring Game Notes - Skill Positions

I did not watch the scrimmage but the hoipolloi and the paid-guys seem to have come away with staggeringly different viewpoints. The former seem certain that Iowa will begin with a whimper and continue to burn till the kirk is fired at season end. The journos if I'm not mistaken see a solid team...
