Your Football Saturday Checklist

Recipes? Chili? Good marinate for London Broil? Anyone?

No offense bro, but why London Broil when there are so many other tender, flavorful cuts with no need to marinate? Maybe something to do while you smoke that Arturo Fuente Opus X...?;)

Get yourself some Italian sausage (I prefer hot). Make into patties and grill. While grilling, Thinly slice onions and your choice of peppers with some olive oil, salt and black pepper. After the water has cooked out of the veggies, add a pat of butter and carmalize. Just when the sausage is done throw a bun on the grill till toasty. When toasted, smear the bun with cream cheese, add the carmalized onions and peppers and the sausage patty. Unfrickenbelievably good with an ice cold beer or beverage of choice.

Mmmmm....sausage....:)

I have a tip for you. Lay off the red meats and mix in a salad. Vinta's starting to think you're letting yourself go...

In addition to Golfers advice, as a similar rule of thumb, it also is wise to carry a roll of TP in your golf bag.

To Tlaker and minn freak, that locale of tailgate, is the best and hopefully there is still a slice of grass to invade. Especially to the "left" ;)

Also, when game is away or when I'm not at Kinnick, the "I" flag goes up on the entryway at home and an extra hawk cap on the shelf next to tv. AlwYs have extra beer and ice on hand for drop in neighbors.

Other good easy tailgate food idea is premade baked potatoe skins with fixens on side. Wings. Deep fry turkey. Taco bar. (i like the italian sausage patty idea listed above as well).

Yeah, because it's not like these courses have porta-potties around and for real...who goes 4.5 to 5 hours without needing to do that ever?

Does anyone have a quality tailgate flagpole they bought? The one I have is okay, but I'm looking to upgrade. Thanks in advance.

Me?

Not on twitter. Don't "friend" any players on teh Facebook. You would have a point about the posting if my screen name was TylerSash or iluvclayborn.

It's cool though if you want to wear teh name or number of a teenager on your back. Suit up, brah.

So in your 3700+ posts you weren't talking about college kids? I think that's a lie.

Suit up bra? If you're trying to insult me you'd better try harder because I don't own a jersey, but it's hypocritical to talk s@%t about people wearing an Iowa jersey when you are a big fan and spend hours online talking about these kids yourself.

Where did I say I never post about them? I said if my username was something along those lines then you would have a point.

There is quite a difference between posting on a message board and a 40 year old dude with a huge gut trying to squeeze into a replica of the same outfit that a kid half his age is wearing.

I like a bit of liquid in my chili. Also, I don't like spices completely overtaking the other flavors.

It isn't soup, but it isn't groul, or liquidified hot peppers, with no other flavor either

I agree with you on the it isn't soup.

My ball game chili is solely reserved for making loaded c-dogs. Very simple Cinci style.

2 lbs ground beef
a few onions
a few cans of tomatoes
chili powder
cayenne
beans

Brown up the beef, strain it, get the onions a little bit cooked, then toss all the other ingredients. Season to taste with c powder and cayenne. Bring to boil and then simmer for a few hours. Prepare on Friday and then reheat on coleman portable gas burner on Saturday.

Put it on hot dogs with poppy seed buns and then liberally cover in onions and cheddar cheese. Unfortunately, I cannot bring it to IC because the trip is too far, but I had it for a few games in Evanston last year and everyone liked it. Note this is only a c-dog chili, though.

See ya in Evanston. I enjoy the trip, as I like to spend time @ Cigar King in Skokie. Ever eat @ Peter Miller's? I thought it was over rated. In any event, if interested, let's at least meet and exchange food and drink.

My cigar shop is Hubbard & State - never been to Cigar King. The only trading I do in Skokie is (i) at the mall because it has most of the same crap from the mag mile without fear of getting shanked and (ii) New York Bagel & Bialy - best bagels I have had in the Midwest (still a far cry from NYC, though). Pete Miller's is meh. I grill my own steak.

I come to IC every week I can and always stop in a spot numbered in the 40s in the KC lot to crush brews with my boys. Depending on work, I may invite a select crew from HN to crush brews at my tailgating spot on the golf course in Evanston, but I won't know until closer to the game.

Gotcha. I also go to a key club, almost straight north of Evanston. I don't recall the name. Interesting cigar club. MJ has a locker there.

Damn that sounds good!

eat at home, drive over to IC, watch the game, yell at the refs, etc. sing In Heaven There Is No Beer, and then GTFO of IC ASAP, so I can get home and watch more football ... unlike some of you people, I'm there for the game
