Your Football Saturday Checklist

Not so long ago the players on their way home would stop by and grab a burger. One season, I'll never forget it, they'd grab a beer. That made me wonder. That was the beginning of the "end", before we began again in 2008-2009.

"Team", "chemistry" and "momentum" have so much more impact on the college game than higher levels it seems. The pageantry though, and game day atmosphere is unrivaled.

Couldn't agree more.

TP! Wow... after 35 years of tailgating, I can still learn something!!:D

Gambled on a fart and lost tailgating in Ames last year for the Iowa game. Waddled over to the porta potty and of course no tp. Ended up wiping my *** in the back seat of my car with one of those towels they put on the seats at Kinnick. TP will be added from now on.

Thanks for sharing. Seriously. See, I told ya. I learned the lesson in Ames also. Our magic Orange Bowl season. Hotter than heck game day, and I drank way too much caffeine.

Moral of story. TP is on list. List guarantees I never forget it. Ladies have kissed me when I have provided TP. TP is good.

This kind of topic always make me wish, JD would pitch a tent somewhere near Kinnick and all of us goof balls could meet one another under the Hawkeye flag! We may have our differences, but we are all Hawks! How fun to see boat and Vin.. I mean Scorpio to break bread together!:)

We will meet before the PSU game, Twin, I promise!:)
But tehboat ain't invited, sorry.

FIFY:D

I like these lists, leads me to a question.

Anyone else given up on grilling? After years of tailgating last year was the first year i finally got tired of hauling all the stuff you all listed and the cleanup. That coupled with the fact that my friends idea of grilling was to play games and drink while i did the grilling made me say screw it. Now I just take snacks and grab something from a melrose vendor on the walk to the stadium. Tailgating isn't quite the same, but I tend to enjoy the time not dealing with the hassle.

Am I a loser or is this acceptable?

Less is more! But you sound like my ex-wife!:D I kid, I kid! Plus I'm on vacation!!

For an 11:00am game;
-make sure I have my tickets
-leave Minnesota between 5:30-6:00am
-***** about leaving so late
-pull into iowa city between 9:30 and 10:00 and park
-pee at the parking spot...there's a place
-head to the tailgating spot; NW side of the stadium near the black semi
-drink 2-3 beers as fast I can while visiting with folks
-watch the band go into the stadium
-head into the stadium

It's hard to not get burnt out. There's quite a bit of work to it. Sometimes someone will bring a pot of chili, and I'll just reheat it. Sometimes, I'll go get chicken breasts at Hy-Vee, wrap them in foil, and reheat. It get tougher for me to get motivated in the colder weather also.

For me, quite a bit has to do with the season. It's been a couple of pretty tough seasons to get excited about exerting myself for tailgating. I have a hunch that will change if we put together another magic season though. It always has in the past.

Usually leave for the Promised Land about noon on Friday... get checked into the hotel and crack the first one about 3:00pm. Hit the "Liner" about 4:00, stay till 8:00pm and then back to the hotel. Pack the cooler, up at 6:00am, park in the ramp on Melrose at 7:00am, walk with cooler and Mrs. Twin to NW corner of the stadium(right by the big black Hawkeye semi) and enjoy my bacon and eggs with all my Fat Dog friends! How many more days til kickoff?:D

I think you and I and HawkeyeMcNutt should carpool!

Freaky, do you think our tailgate spots are still there after the new construction?

11AM games in warm weather require getting the ice that day, or packing, and draining the melted ice, and putting new ice on top.

Later games is a crap shoot as to when to show up.

Once again, winning seasons make a difference. When we would win, I'd do breakfast and lunch. Night games, lunch and dinner.

Road trips for me depend on location, and are a challenge, especially trying to find grocery stores open at 5AM for 11AM kickoffs in some places. Probably similar for those that have a way to travel to Kinnick. A bunch of 11AM kickoff get old in a hurry.

I haven't heard good news about it yet. It was a great place for sure. Right next to the stadium; could watch the band; watch the players come out after the game...it will be sad if we don't get them back. :(

You might need to relocate. Less parking over there. More parking is coming next season is what the I Club told us.

http://espn.go.com/blog/bigten/post/_/id/51738/ranking-the-crossover-schedules-legends

6. Iowa

Crossover games: Oct. 20 vs. Penn State, Nov. 3 at Indiana, Nov. 10 vs. Purdue (protected)

The Penn State and Purdue games could be interesting depending on how the division races look, but Iowa likely will be favored in all three of its cross-division contests. If Iowa had Wisconsin as its protected crossover -- as many Hawkeyes fans would prefer -- the overall crossover schedule would have more pizzazz.

Big 10 Blog - ESPNU.

Most likely favored for our night game? We'll see, but I'm not entirely surprised by his comment.

1. Get up
2. Go to work
3. Follow the game occasionally on CBS game-tracker with the bouncing dudes when not busy
4. Profit????
