Yes, this is a disappointing stretch of Iowa football

Florida and Tennessee play much tougher schedules and play in a much tougher conference.

With that said, these disappointing stretches we have gone through as Iowa fans are nothing compared to what lots and lots of other schools go through. They go through 2-10, 3-9, 1-11 type seasons. 6-6 for Iowa State is almost considered a good season the for them. Think how miserable it would be to look forward or feel good about 6-6.

We're lucky and we're spoiled.

Iowa would be THRILLED to be 6-6 with ISU's schedule, trust me.

That's true most years in fact.

This isn't the '60s and '70s anymore. The times have changed, and we're a much better program than that now. So pardon me if I'm not elated with 6-7 win seasons.

Agree. I tire of the 'back in the day' comparisons to the 60s and 70s when Iowa was not good. Georgetown, Army, and Yale were football powers back in the day ... The point? Who cares?

I think what's interesting is both sides of this argument desire is to stop beating a dead horse. Jon, when you bring yourself down to posters some lose respect for you. I understand they called you out but you bit that hook. People only. are about their own struggles and that's the society we live in. I wish I could stay from message boards but I love Iowa sports too much. It's sad seeing the way some fans act on message boards and at the games. My group was sitting by a few people who were negative from kickoff and it was as annoying as it gets. If you don't want to support Iowa football in a positive manner, please stay home and watch from your couch.

Yes ... only happy and positive people need to attend games at Kinnick. Maybe they should print this on the 70,000 tickets each Saturday. I am guessing that would eliminate about 50,000 people from the mix ...

Only to be out done with the Tom Davis analogy. Guilty of using those types of excuses in the past, but no longer.

Don't go to the games though looking to be negative from the get go. I'm ok with fans having negative feelings but these fans were flat out ignorant.

As long as your not last everything is ok. The fact that other programs struggle means it's ok for Iowa struggle. I mean its little ole Iowa anyway.

What sucks is we're on our way down the slope. This year will be seem great compared to the next couple. We can always say it's better than the 60's and 70's and we can always say other programs have struggled. I guess saying those things is supposed to help? Sucking, sucks.

Yes, and they can play this on Mediacom Hawkvisionâ„¢ during timeouts:

Current Recruiting rankings per Rivals:

Texas #1
Miami #10
Florida #4
Tennessee #12

Iowa #10 in the Big Ten

The other schools will likely bounce back. We likely will not, at least for a while. That adds to the ******-off-ness.

Rick Stanzi has as many bowl wins as you've celebrated in the history of your Iowa State experience.

Ferentz in the Big 12 North for the last 12 years would have fared just as well as he's fared in the Big 10.

6-6 is success for you. 4-8 or worse is typical for you. What a depressing story.

I believe without 3 turnover to msu 0, we win and everyone is talking about the chance to win our division.

yes I believe fans are that shallow and weak.

One more thing.

Last year was NOT a disappointing year by Iowa standards. 8 wins is an above average season.

People wanted more, but with no DC, a poor OLine after the guards went down, and a rookie ML, 8 wins was fine.

Last year was a HUGE disappointment and a total waste of talent by the coaches...****** away a team with a TON of talent.

For me it's not only about the wins or losses, but the consistency or lack there of. Something just hasn't felt right about the whole program the past few years.

I think the Hawks have a lot of athletes who really aren't very athletic. A team like Penn State (which really isn't great this year) is much more athletic than the Hawks --- on both sides of the ball.

Anyone remember when Tennessee ran off Johnny Majors? He was a trurning out competitive 7-4 / 8-3 teams back in the 80's. Fulmer took them to the next level.

Anyone remember who the coach at Florida was before Steve Spurier? Yes they had a couple of coaches from 1950 - 1989. They had decades of average to competitive teams. Woodruff, Graves, Dickey, Pell, Hall. This was an era before FLA was widely understood to have great players.

These Universities had the courage to take a step forward.

Iowa will take a step just about the time that KF graduates his last football playing son.

To add to that, If Iowa hadn't lost all these games, we'd be talking about a chance to win a National Championship.
