Yes, officiating was awful, but..

That flop on the low post by Michigan State when the ball was passed into McCabe should be shown over and over to the Big Ten officials who called it. Same with the 3 pt phantom foul. NIX backing over people... yet tic tac fouls on Iowa down low. Sick.

Like it matters. Jim Burr is the biggest ******* piece of **** of an official in the country. Hes the same piece of **** that was officiating that disaster in the Big East Tournament a few years back when he just walked off the floor with 3 seconds to go and missed a blatant travel. He should have been finished a long time ago as an official and definitey after that one. But no, the NCAA was having this piece of crap officiating the NCAA Tournament 1 week later. With that being said, Iowa lost this game by unforced god awful turnovers, no leadership and and missed free throws again.

Without mistakes we could have one the game despite the bad officiating. Without bad officiating we could have won the game despite the mistakes. If the calls were even we probably would have won and if the calls favored us we definitely would have won.

That's one way to put it.

hey spank. want to go into the game thread and weed out some trolls in your down time tonight? don't know if you get a kick out of that.

The thing is - by now Iowa HAS to know playing MSU that they are going to get mugged. They shove, bulldoze, hold, hack all game long. It happens in all the games. If the players weren't ready for that, then it's bad preparation. Know your opponent and have a gameplan. Iowa got shoved and didn't shove back.

Also, Jim Burr is just the worst.

Jim Burr had the worst game as an official as I have seen in a very long time, maybe ever. The charge was awful, but I have never EVER seen an official put the ball in play without either of his two partners on the court. I've done plenty of dumb stuff in my 8 years of officiating basketball, but I've never approached that level of bad.

I mean, it's just inexcusable for a D1 official to make a mistake like that. The fact that Jim is still working big time college basketball is a good example of all that is wrong with the political landscape of basketball official assigners.

White hacked the kid on the 3pt shot.

He may have, but why blow the whistle after the ball has already landed in the hands of another player? Did he really need that much time to process what occurred?

Honestly, sometimes yes. A patient whistle is a good thing, and a late whistle almost always is the correct call. A whistle in a basketball game is a lot like President Clinton, you can't unblow it.

Watch him run the sideline on the MSU steal and dunk with under minute left. There is no way an official in that condition should work games.
He killed us the first half; the flop altered the game later on as well (though we still should have won).

Iowa gave away a game at home and just is not get good and prob won't even sniff the nit this year either. They defiantly are nowhere close to getting back anytime soon!

TChawk bringing perspective. See everyone does stupid things from time to time.

That phantom foul on White after the missed three pointer by MSU changed the game. That was terrible and put MSU right back in it with no time running off the clock.

Sorry, but the refs had a MAJOR hand in Iowa losing this game. If that isn't called, Iowa runs clock and gets to shoot free throws possibly extending the lead. That call isn't made and Iowa wins. I have no doubt about it.

I almost called the authorities, I was pretty sure that officiating crew escaped from the nursing home. Of course if our guards don't hand the ball right to MSU 8 times we win that game going away. Or if we hit our free throws down the stretch.

this!

Hawks need to start winning more if they expect to get some calls from the refs! To say Big Ten refs arent biased is bullcrap. With that being said Fran had this team ready to play but MSU stepped up in the 2nd half and the Hawkeyes could not make enough plays to beat them. Hawkeyes need to get so much tougher if they expect to win 10 confernce games.

He completely turned this program around from the dumps.

This. As an athlete, you have to be prepared for all factors that might influence the contest -- weather, playing surface, surroundings, crowd, noise, officials. There is still a toughness issue with this team.

The game has long passed Jim Burr by. He and that entire crew need to be forced to retire now, before a player or someone else gets seriously hurt by their inability to control games. That one got out of hand last night. It was worse than embarrassing.

It was NOT a phantom foul. White hackdd the kid and it was a good call.

Problem is with the Trooooolers (defined as posters against any statement not entirely positive about Iowa athletics, coaches and CERTAIN players) use the TROLL word like diarrhea. Just keeps pouring out and won't stop.
