Wisc WR Flips to Hawks

Interesting development here. Doubt it means anything about Martin. I have no idea what kind of competition he's playing against, but he makes catching the football look really easy (which has nothing to do with the competition). Kid has good hands, pretty good speed, and a nice GPA. Should have a bright future. I don't mind adding a kid like this at all.

a few of these kids isn't a problem, and Iowa has shown an ability to spot talent that the ranking services can't see.

The problem comes when you're filling out a very large percentage of your class with these types of players.

As for this specific player, Wisconsin has made a killing turning players like him into great receivers.

Naw your right about it not affecting Martin. This kid is taking what would have been Coralles scholly. Martin has to be top of the list. I totally agree with you from his tape. He's smooth. He's may not be a burner but he's not slow. He tracks the ball really well it showed him making all different types of catches from different angles. He's got good body control and field awareness at boxing out the corners. He might not see the field for 2 or 3 yrs,,, or he might surprise like Vandeberg has. Either way looks like a good get to me.

If he turns out like Desmond King and Ron Coluzzi (originally C. Michigan verbals) we won't complain.

It's that time of the year, December 14th, the official opening of the MAC hunting season.

His skills look very impressive! The one handed catches were amazing. He was able to make guys miss after the catch too. He has the speed to get behind the coverage. I look forward to seeing him in a Hawkeye uniform.

Matt Vandeberg says hello as he gets by you, elevates and makes the catch.

Many people, myself included, thought the last half of 2014 showed Vandy could run great routes with above avg speed and make tough catches.

Generally speaking a "nice GPA" would positively correlate with an above average IQ. Why would a talented and intelligent receiver such as Martin want to be a glorified downfield blocker except for 1 or 2 plays a game? Since boosters and administration are satisfied with coaching staff, what would be rationale for drastically changing to a downfield oriented pass offense? There is a reason why there aren't many Iowa WRs in the NFL. If a WR has any dreams about making an NFL roster, IA is one of the last places they should consider. I'm sure every decent recruiter could and would make these points. It makes perfect since for two-star WRs such as Cooper and walk-ons looking for an eventual scholarship to come to Iowa.

The thread title is misleading. He wasn't a Wisconsin commit which is what the title makes it sound like. He's a slow white WR with no good offers. So thrilled.

Maybe you should send a twitter quote to him reminding him that he is white, slow, and low rated. Along with, "Welcome to the Iowa Hawkeyes, young man."

Just checked out this commit on another VIP site...kid has been electronically timed at 4.54 in the 40.

I am sorry, but I have to chime in, and will probably get called out.
But pointing out he is white is ridiculous. If we got a verbal commitment from a black player, nobody would say "We got an athletic, smart black guy".

I think the key is can these receivers run precise routes and block well. It seems like the kids we had on the field this year were good blockers but not particularly good at running precise routes.

A white 2*, gotta luv it!! Jump on it.

Anyway, where does it state Iowa. I see a verbal to Central Michigan.

Don't care if he's white, black, yellow or green at least we're finally recruiting guys that have played WR instead of trying to make them into one.Stats show it hasn't worked.

Can we get the QB from his highlight film too? Nearly every pass was a perfect throw. I didn't see much that impressed me regarding said WR as a result. I'm by no means an offensive expert so take my observation for face value.
