Wisc WR Flips to Hawks

That's not a bad idea. I looked him up, his name is Ben Nimz a junior. He does not have a recruiting profile, however he could be a steal as a preferred walk on.

Ed Hinkel wasn't particularly fast but he was very agile. I believe he had the best time on the cone drill at that year's NFL combine.

Iowa will always have a rebirth of Hinkel. Gotta have a player like that. Vandenberg is the current addition. Need to replace him after next year.

Here we go KF is at it again, doesn't want commits to Iowa going looking but he has not problem being two faced about it and going to poach some MAC lvl talent who is committed already , because that is just what Iowa needs..sigh

I don't know anything about this player...but what seems to be important to me is...we need to find some receivers who can get open.

4.54 isn't a burner but he's not slow either... Plenty of NFL guys run about that too. I'd say he's fast enough. He looks athletic in that he has good body control when running his routes and going up for the ball. Obviously they didn't have any drops on his highlight tape but he looks like a hands catcher not relying on his body to catch most of the time. I think Iowa's be pretty lucky if he was a James Vandeberg type right away. It may be 3 yrs before he sees the field but that don't mean he's a waste of a scholly by any means. We'll see...

Also remember that he is in high school. He's not going to get down to 4.3, but he can shave more time off of that 40. I think the kid looks pretty good, but it's hard to tell until we see him playing against college level competition. Hoping he can develop in the system.

So we keep recruited a guy who was already committed to another school? I thought Kirk frowned on kids who continued to shop after committing.

No doubt. And to me when it comes to receivers is just their athleticism. It's not very often that they are catching the perfect pass right. Most of them are high/low and to all sides of them. Back shoulder throws are becoming more and more the thing. So having flexible hips route running and being able to catch the ball smoothly is way more important than whatever the difference is between a 4.4 and 4.54 forty is. Your talking a half a step or so depending on the stride with that...

Fify. Don't want a James vandenberg as a WR.

We've seen how poorly the coaching staff evaluates the WR position, and his offer only came after two decommits at the position.
Iowa didn't even offer Martin until after he blew up nationally and he's in their own back yard. Martin went on to say that he'd basically have committed early had Iowa offered earlier. Nothing against the new recruit, but I'm sure the staff either missed her or they won't develop him.

I do not follow recruiting that close. But it is my impression that everyone discourages their verbal commitments from taking visits elsewhere, and everyone continues to talk with other schools' verbals. Why are so many trying to act like Iowa is the only school engaged in this hypocrisy?
