Michigan and NW 2005 I started wondering about KF. 2010-2011 losses to Minny were the breaking point for me. The gutless FG against ISU 2011 when we needed 1/2 yd for a 1rst down.

Hard to pick one specific moment, there have been so many (which is probably the real underlying answer to your root question)

My confidence slipped as I saw him stay with guys like Jake C and Herb Grigsby so long. WTF?! And watching him wave the white flag at the Horseshoe in 2009 after his team played their hearts out pizzed me off beyond description.

But the real slide probably began in 2010 with a badly under-performing team...(a dropped pass from going 6-6) with the tipping point being the fake punt by Wisconsin. Since then, there have been numerous moments that reinforced my loss of faith, as his limitations became glaringly obvious.

I dont know, i am not anti anyone. Seems like someplace i dont want to be. If i am anti kf because i dont agree with some of the things he does or says, how can i not be anti everyone? My wife my daughter heck everyone does or says something i dont agree with.
I read his presser and he gets it. From the sidelines to coaches taking responsibility for how well their units play, he knows. I dont know if he needs to hire a guru or personal is advisor but he seems to get so focused on the details he cant see the whole picture. Thus he is never surprised and fake punts and such are common.

MeatMan - just curious as to the particulars of the Rhabdo incident from someone in sports medicine. Please feel free to go all geek. Thanks!

And you didn't fall asleep? You must have had some 5 hour energy.
They grilled him pretty good. Not that he did not need it. I am tired of the answer, we have four guys but its hard to get pt. Its not, its really not. Going in you know what kind of front seven your going up against. If your ol cant knock down a wall, start smaller. Find or make a crack in a solid wall. Thats how you find or make a weakness in aa solid wall.

I have gone from strong supporter to no-strong-opinion, but I'm still not anti-Ferentz. The fact is KF is a coach with many strengths and many weaknesses, and the weaknesses have just stood out more and more over the years. My personal downgrade started with the loss in the 'Shoe in '09.

The 2006-2007 season for me. Started to see some of the stubbornness shine through, and all the off field distractions and legal issues. Seemed like he lost the ship (and will give him credit, turned that aspect around).

2008 was a frustrating season as we lost a lot of games we should not have. Another one to NW, which I still am annoyed with that goal line stand NW held against us. Things clicked with the PSU game and we destroyed South Carolina in the bowl game.

2009 was all smoke and mirrors. Every week was a last minute win and heart attack waiting to happen. It was fun because we won, but really frustrating to watch since we had a lot of talent.

The last three years have been letdowns. 2010 probably the most. The 2011/2012/2013 we've seen glimpses of things that work on offense, and yet we go away from them. Vandy in 2011 appeared to be at his best in a wide open attack, evidence of the Pitt comeback. 2012 was just a disaster. And this year we've seen glimpses of strength, 3 TE sets, power runs, spread the ball out to your best players......only to come back to the zone stretch play with a RB who runs a 5.5

not anti-KF, i'm just not a supporter any more. i started to cool on him before this event, but the rhabdo incident was a real wake up call for me. i felt that Kirk handled that situation poorly at best. but last year was a real turning point. at that time i realized it wasn't KOK's fault for very mediocre offenses, that it was all on KF. i suspected that for awhile, but it was apparent at that point.

i think Brian would be a much better head coach. i'm not advocating for that, mind you, just stating that i think there are people currently on staff who are much better prepared for this age of college football. you don't have to make glaring changes, just be willing to scratch where it itches...and be prepared for an onside kick or fake punt once in awhile.

My theory is Brian is the one who pushed for the 3 tight end sets. Especially because he coached the Patriot tight ends with great success. I think our offensive problem is Greg Davis play calling and offensive game plans. The defense has looked solid this year. The offense looks lost except for the OSU game.

I'm not anti-Ferentz as in "calling for his head".. yet.. But the point in time where I really started to sour was the Minnesota game in 2011. Two straight losses on that field to terrible Minnesota teams (I believe Iowa gave Minnesota literally HALF of their wins from 2010-11).

Coker running for 150+ in the first half and Iowa was only able to generate 7 points..

Getting fooled by an onside kick yet again..

Another late loss...

Something in me kind of changed towards Iowa football on that October 29th, 2011.

I am not Anti Ferentz but do think college football is passing him buy on so many levels. Hayden came in and changed everything and energized it. KF has tried to keep that 80s feeling which is nice but it is n't the 80's anymore. What Iowa needs to do is do what Hayden did and come in and be more revolutionary. We did it once why can't we do it again?

It's so funny that some now complain about the orange bowl year!! I mean oh mygod what miserable people you must be.

Nothing against the man personally as I don't know him.

However, from a coaching standpoint, after the 2009 season and the 10 year extension (Most stupid contact in sports next to Albert Pujols) the program has been a boring product on the field offensively for his entire tenure. His refusal to move into this century as other programs have done is a big failure for this fan.

I am an Iowa fan first and a fan of the coach second. Each year as I watch other teams play more up tempo it just confirms how boring they are to watch. It's like watching a 1-0 soccer match each Saturday. I want some offense and we will never get it from this coach.
This shows just how stupid you really are...More teams playing up tempo?! This is a serious question, have you seriously not watched any Iowa football this year?!?!?!

Go look at the past ten years and tell me how many teams Iowa is better than over that span. Last year was bad but they were still top 25 in the country in wins the last ten years with a 4 win season. That's pretty remarkable. He is right there with Michigan and Nebraska.
It's not that easy to find another coach that can do that.

Since 2001 Iowa leads the Big Ten in Bowl wins an winning percentage.
4th in big ten wins the past ten years
4th in big ten wins the last 5 years

3 time Big Ten coach of the year
National Coach of the year
Ranked in top Ten in final poll 4 times
Two conference championships

We aren't talking about Lickliter here guys.
