What are your expectations for Adam Woodbury next year?

Naw, the sponsors wouldn't let us have fun with the uniforms at all. But then again we weren't in a positon to complain as they footed the bill for us to travel throughout the south west and west coast.
Duff - you got a link to Woodbury's stats? Where is this 0.4 blocks per game number coming from? I think you're pulling a Herby and just making up stats.

Some website that kept a game log stat line. could very well have been wrong.

Kind of a combination of other posters views. I think he can make it a little more difficult for a guy like Leonard from Illinois to score. I think he'll disrupt some shots. He passes well. I'm really hoping he'll help in the rebounding category. At state they collapsed so hard on him that it was hard to gauge his offensive game. In an ideal situation, they could redshirt him and get the bulk on first, but that's not gonna happen.

Predicting Woody will average 2 blocks a game is kinda like predicting I'll grow up to be a 6-8 black guy with mad hops. Woody is what he is (not a shotblocker) just as I am what I am (35, white, and two bum knees).

I think it's realistic to think a 7'1 D1 center could become a shot blocker. You becoming black not a chance. So your purposely over the top analogy is still a weak example.

FOR THE LAS TIME, Woody will NOT be a shot blocker at Iowa. He's averaging less than .4 blocks per game as a senior in HS. That will NOT translate into 2 blocks per game at the D1 level.

Another Duff prediction based on basically nothing

three seven footers that never averaged 2.0 blocks per game. being seven feet doesn't equal shot blocking.

neither Leonard nor Zeller blocked close to 2 shots per game, both are seven footers, both played more min than woody will, and both are more athletic than woody.

I'm not saying he wont help us, I'm saying he won't be good defensively, I'm saying he wont be a big time shot blocker

the biggest problem with telling what he avg'd for blocks is not available because IHSAA, does not record block shots in the official books, there have been people who went to games and kept track of the blks for their own reports on Woodbury, also in this NBA camp was Nerlen Noel the #1 center in the country and by the so called expert lsi him as a 1 n done player.
again Woodbury getting this award over some of the best players in the country, tells me he can and will compete from day one,

And you are comparing him to these guys even though I bet you havent seen him play in many games...just going off some website with unofficial stats is a big leap imo

I'll say 18 minutes with 5 ppg and 5 rpg and a 1 to 1 assist to turnover ratio. I also think he will save us 4 to 6 points a game on defense in various ways...some tangible and some intangible.

Here is what Woodbury will do, change the complextion of Iowa basketball. A true Center, something Iowa fans haven't seen in recent memory, Hansen probably the last one. Scoring will come when the opportunity presents itself, forcing nothing. Rebounding will be the biggest asset he will provide.
The impact Woodbury will have which goes along with this class as a whole, will be in the media with some hype coming Iowa's way, especially with winning some of the games that were won this season.

Predictions:
25 mpg
7.0 ppg
9.5 rpg
1.3 bpg
2.5 apg

Woodbury is another piece that will stablize the program and help Iowa to the NCAA tournament.

Very good short write-up. I think your high on the RPG per game but good analysis.

Duff, stay in the Off Topic and Politics forums because on the sports boards you are mentally challenged and mentally defecient.

yawn.

take everything here and divide it by half.

I expect to be pleasantly surprised by both Woodbury and Gesell. Really looking forward to next season. I'm hoping we get a juco wing that can fill up a box score as well. I think our lineup will look like this by mid season:

c - Woodbury
pf- aaron white
sf- juco wing (if not, then marble and oglesby starts at the 2)
sg- marble
pg- gesell

Oglesby and McCabe are our first 2 off the bench followed by Basabe, Kyle Meyer and Clemons. We need people that can handle the ball and pass. If Basabe wants to continue to hold the ball low and put it on the floor, his minutes will be limited.

But I fully expect Woodbury to be a starter by mid season unless Basabe can be fundamentally sound by next season.

Hard to argue with your logic: don't forget Ingram he has the quickness and explosiveness that Fran loves, If everyone comes back there will be enough depth that the practices will be very competitive.

Your right, after posting, I realized that. I definitely think Ingram is in the mix at the 2. So maybe Marble is our 3 going forward. It'll be very nice having 3 players on the floor that can be the main ball handler. Between marble, oglesby, gesell, clemons, ingram, we should keep the guard positions fresh and may allow us to run even more.

i still like this lineup,
PG 6'2 Gesell FR
G 6'7 Marble JR
F 6'8 White SO
F 6'7 McCabe JR
C 7'1 Woodbury FR

notice i said F not SF for White, that will give Iowa a big Lineup and 4 shooters on the floor with enough ball handlers to compete, giving us a solid bench of the following;
PG 6'1 Clemmons FR
SG 6'3 Ingram FR
WG 6'5 Oglesby SO
F 6'5 May SR
F 6'7 Basabe JR
F 6'10 Meyer FR
C 6'11 Olaseni SO
not to shabby a bunch to pick and choose from and there will be more height than there has been in years. and the best part we only lose 1 SR to graduation giving this team 2 years to play together before losing Basabe, Marble and McCabe to graduation, and the year we can look forward to a solid NCAA tournament run of 2-3 or more victories

I watched Woodbury play at state the other day...I've backed down on my predictions...I just hope he is able to snag a few rebounds and get a couple of scores...He should NEVER put the ball on the deck ever, except for one quick dribble maybe, don't back people down. if you can't do a spin move or up and under or some other move kick it out Adam...he had it stolen/just fell down all over himself about 5 times. Of course he was getting hammered...but he did his fair share of bullying and got away with it as well. Kind of down on him right now...I think he will be solid for Iowa, I am just not sold that he is a "take over the game" type post player, or ever will be. But we need solid players right now.

I just want someone who can do something in the post on defense. Especially after watching that game yesterday. Make the other team have to try to score at least.
