What are your expectations for Adam Woodbury next year?

Just that alone should help the other bigs for Iowa. Cant wait to see him and Meyer next year mixed in with White, Basabe and McCabe

We'll do the same with some of the other frosh in different threads, but let's start with Woodbury as there has been some recent chatter on this pursuant to him being in the state tourney in DSM and some getting their first look at him. I'll check back in on this thread and offer my thoughts, as well as a few opinions from folks in the biz, but want you all to chime in first.

Minutes? Points? Rebounds? Overall impact to next year's team?

The kid has a lot to learn, and he needs several months to build a Big Ten body. I'm hoping he gets 15 to 18 minutes a game, 8 to 10 points, and 6 to 8 boards. He will be pushed around at times and get beat up in the block by stronger and older guys.

Beyond his freshman year, he should be a force. He loves the game and plays very hard.

4 sport athlete in HS, played club rugby, fast pitch and high level slow pitch softball for 10 years, and genetics I guess.

OMG you are softball guy!!! "high level", now that's funny. Did you have "Duffman" on the back of your jersey or some other zany nickname?

Anyway, I agree with the 7 point, 7 reb, 15-20mpg range for Woodrow. He'll take his lumps next year in the B1G and start giving them out the year after. I like the fact that he is a good passer with good vision for a big man. And I've already mentioned that I like his aggressiveness and attitude. He'll fit right in with the chair slammin' mentality.

care to elaborate on these older stronger guys?

who is he? i looked at MSU's roster and saw no 25 listed, and other than a 6'10 player who is listed as a forward and he weigh 230, the rest are 6'9, again care to elaborate?

Naw, the sponsors wouldn't let us have fun with the uniforms at all. But then again we weren't in a positon to complain as they footed the bill for us to travel throughout the south west and west coast.

15-20 min
8 pts
5 reb
solid contributer who doesn't get the cheap fouls that McCabe does

This is where I'm at, too.

I am concerned that AW will arrive on campus with All-BIG, Freshman of the Year expectations. I think he'll be solid but won't quite be all-conference yet.

Still, very excited to have a TRUE center. Haven't had one for a while.

Also like the fact that he apparently plays with a chip on his shoulder. Iowa players need that. We have it in Zach and Matt. Sounds like Adam can bring it.

i have woodbury at 15-20 min. i think this is the hardest spot for frosh to come in at. i believe mccabe and basabe will still play at the 5 some and meyer also. dont see olaseni getting much time for another yr. and i think his impact will be large in those 15-20 min because we will have better balance.

min - 15 to 20 min
pts - 8
rebs - 4-5
blocks - 1

i think the main contribution is that him at the 5 will allow basabe and white to rebound and block shots better from their 4 spot. he will redirect shots and they will block them and they are quicker than most 4s so their offensive rebounds i think will increase. this in turn will help them both increase their pts per game. numbers will make it seem like the guards were the biggest impact but woodbury will help others increase their numbers.

I suspect he will be really tall.
20 minutes
8 points
8 boards
1.3 blocks per game
1.3 steals per game
4.3 fouls per game

overall impact, he'll be real tall. the first true center we've had in awhile. average minutes against illinois 30.
20 = the amount of pounds the strength and conditioning guys will try and put on him before his first big ten game.
50 = the number of burritos i will eat a week trying to help him gain weight by osmosis

Duff - you got a link to Woodbury's stats? Where is this 0.4 blocks per game number coming from? I think you're pulling a Herby and just making up stats.

i keep asking why he has to put all this weight on; 245 lbs is not enough? Leonard for Illinois is 245 lbs and gave Iowa all they could handle at 7'1

I expect Woodbury to take up space for at least 20 minuets a game.

He may block 1 shot a game, but allow Basabe and White to block 2 or 3 a game more than they would with out him, and he could alter as many as 10 to 15 shots a game.

Having a 7'1 center changes the whole dynamic of the game, it alters the way teams will attack you, especially compared to having undersized 4s playing in the middle.

Guards will pull up rather than attempt to get all the way to the rim, they will shoot floaters and rush shots more often, other centers won't get nearly as deep on their post ups. Everything is more difficult for the opposition when you have a guy that big in the middle.

Again, we are talking about a guy who won MVP of the entire NBA camp, THE eliet camp in the country. He was the most outstanding player in attendance out of all the best players in the country. Woodbury is not a project.

Here is what Woodbury will do, change the complextion of Iowa basketball. A true Center, something Iowa fans haven't seen in recent memory, Hansen probably the last one. Scoring will come when the opportunity presents itself, forcing nothing. Rebounding will be the biggest asset he will provide.
The impact Woodbury will have which goes along with this class as a whole, will be in the media with some hype coming Iowa's way, especially with winning some of the games that were won this season.

Predictions:
25 mpg
7.0 ppg
9.5 rpg
1.3 bpg
2.5 apg

Woodbury is another piece that will stablize the program and help Iowa to the NCAA tournament.
