Uthoff why not go Juco and anywhere he wants?

Like Duff said, we aren't saying he will or should. Just saying it is an option to think about. Personally, I think transfer U is gonna be raking in another one. But who knows?

I don't know how credits transfer and such, but wouldn't he have to graduate from the JUCO to be eligible? If he could not complete the degree in one year with his Wisc. transfer credits, then he'd have to stay another semester.

This only applies to student athletes that did not qualify at a 4 year school right out of High School. Rodney Coe has to graduate from IWCC in order to come to Iowa.

Plus, he can still appeal the Big 10 restrictions in the next 8 days.

I think if he goes through with this appeal process it is a positive sign that he will choose the Hawks. I don't see the reason that he would go through it just to find out Fran isn't going to offer.

If he goes JUCO, he only gets 2 years at a D1 school.
If he goes directly to a D1 school, he'll get 3 years at that level.

Makes sense he wants to skip the JUCO route.

I'm also saying blocking bten schools was pointless because there is an easy work around and the work around doesn't harm the kid.

the bten restriction does nothing to hurt Iowas chances. it also doesn't do much to help someone else's chances. if he wants to be a hawk hell end up here, if he doesn't he won't.

considering what he's been through to think any other way is laughable. he more than anyone else is in a position to value being someplace that makes him happy. he's not going to go somewhere he isn't sold on just because the road to the school he really wants to go is a bit different or longer.

the academics argument against the juco route is also laffy.

why would he lose a year going juco. he's a freshman, going juco doesn't make him a soph does it?

Sorry, I misread the initial post(s). I thought you guys were talking about Uthoff transferring after a JUCO stint (2 years).

I will learn to read better next time.

Seeing as he qualified out of HS, he wouldn't need to graduate from the JUCO to be eligible for a D1 transfer. He could be one and done and then have 3 years of eligibility at a D1 school.

I think in this case, though, Uthoff wants to get to the school now, learn the system, practice with team, be part of the University, and then the next year he's ready to be a contributor as a RS SOPH. I can understand that. And he could, theoretically, do that at a B1G school he would just have to pay the cash for the first year before getting aid the next three years.

Interesting topic, for sure, but I don't think Uthoff wants to go the JUCO route.

Let's say for a second he does want to come to Iowa, would it be tampering for Fran to suggest this to him? I suppose Uthoff would have to contact Fran first.

Edit - stfu Ghost! :D

Yes, by definition, it would be tampering.

Uthoff would have to enroll at Iowa as "regular" student and pay his own way. Then the discussion could start assuming that's how the official docs are drawn up. But having those B1G setup as no-contact, by definition means the program cannot talk to Uthoff about playing on scholarship with their program.

you might be right, but in the end you are just speculating on what a 19 year old kid who just went through the ringer thinks and is going to do.

I don't think even Uthoff knows what he's going to do (outside of getting the **** out of Madison) at this point.

I can think of a few reasons...

I asked this in the other thread but it got buried. If Uthoff has to sit out a year prior to playing and will only have three years of eligibility remaining, why wouldn't he go to a Juco first? When done there he could go anywhere he wanted, including all the schools in the big ten.

1) Risk. If he suffers a career-threatening injury while at a JUCO, he's out of luck as far as getting a college scholarship for the rest of his education at a 4-year school.
2) Doesn't want to go through being at 3 different schools in 3 years.
3) Why should he have to go through that when his grades are fine.

1. he could suffer an injury anywhere including practice for a d1 team.

2. the juco would probably be in or near his hometown.

3. to attend the school he really wants to attend

Because you only get to be in college for a short time and maybe Uthoff is smart to realize he doesn't want to waste one of those years at a juco when he could be partying it up in Iowa City, or another major college town, four or five nights a week. He's spent the past year in Madison you think he's going to want to go to Indian Hills or some other juco in the middle of ******* nowhere. The talent at juco schools is far below that of B10 campuses. Redshirt for a season, practice with no pressure, party, pull some B10 quality jersey chasers, that's not a bad year.

Actually the more I read about it the more I realize a Juco is probably unlikely even if he goes to a bten school. He can go to a Bten school, he can even practice with the team. He just can't get money the first year. After the first year however he would have 3 years to play just like anywhere else, and he can get a schollie.

What's instate tuition? 10K? That's probably not an issue for him.

A JUCO would only come into play if he wanted to to elsewhere in the Bten, like Indiana.

Just out of curiosity, why would you think this (bolded)?

Also, maybe he thinks JUCO sucks.

10k was pretty close, I was only considering tuition and school costs. He'll find a way to get beer money.

This? Or FREE???? Hmmmm....

I get the feeling you really think he's coming to Iowa and will have a big, "I knew he was coming to Iowa the entire time" party if it happens, but you're hedging your bets with your sly posting and not just coming out and saying it, so when it doesn't happen you don't look like a fool.
