Tracking 2012 Class Offers

That's one of the first thoughts to flash in my mind too.

To go a step further, Michigan has the following OL recruits committed in their current class:

Ben Braden
Caleb Stacey
Eric Magnuson
Blake Bars
Kyle Kalis

And that's in addition to landing:

Tom Stroblel (DL, 6-6/250) - projects well on both sides of the ball
Matt Godin (DL, 6-6/265) - projects on both sides of the ball
AJ Williams (TE, 6-6/260) - can project at OT in addition to TE

That's already A LOT of bodies that project to the OL. They're going to have to ease up recruiting the big guys at some point.

I think they're making up for Rich Rod only recruiting skill players. I also heard that UM wants Diamond as a guard and I don't think he likes that, but to have 6 or 7 OL in one class is pretty interesting.

I still really think (hope) diamond comes to Iowa via help from flemming and Johnson ....... and Michigan's recruiting.

Considering that Fleming and Johnson have said that they're going to be trying to help Iowa land Ward, Diamond, and Ekakatie .... it would be awfully exciting if Iowa could end up landing any ONE of them ... and absolutely astounding if they were to land all three!

As it is I'm pretty struck how Iowa hasn't offered any O-lineman for a while. It would appear that the Iowa coaches seem to like their chances of landing a few O-linemen from the top of their recruiting board.

Considering that Diamond, Kozan, Shoff, Ward, and Pirsig are all "in play" for the Hawks ... and the fact that Iowa has already landed Keppy .... methinks that the Hawks will land another excellent OL recruiting class for 2012.

They only have 2 SRs on the OL in 2011 ... and they have a number of talented underclassmen. I agree that they don't have a ton of O-linemen on the roster ... however, they apparently felt comfortable enough about their OL situation to move Quinton Washington over to the DL.

I'm really excited for Diamond and to find out where he goes, but I want him to wait as long as possible so Michigan fills up!

Your question about DE recruits was a good one. We landed 2 guys who I'm really pleased about (McMinn and Raymon) ... however, the coaches really seemed to want to land another DE-type who could play at a really high level (or could play the role of a speed rusher). We kept on sitting well with a bunch of really good guys ... however, in the end, we kept on whiffing on them. As a late commit, we did land Tsopanides, however, I still kinda view him as developing into a high-motor type of guy on the interior. If he has adequate speed, then maybe he could possibly pull off being a strong-side DE .... we'll see.

Now again, if you look at Iowa's DE recruiting situation ... we appear to have a number of guys who appear pretty interested ... Winston and Lohn being two primary ones coming to mind. Ekakatie could possibly be a strong-side guy like Lohn ... however, I'd have him pegged more for interior play. Render seemed interested in us some while ago ... however, I'm not certain if he still is. Also, this is just a hunch, but Kozan is a kid who appears to have a good bit of interest in Iowa ... and his teammate, Michael Mann, now seems to have an Iowa offer too. Thus, Mann could potentially be a guy who is in the picture now too. I like Clark and he's visited ... however, I haven't gotten a vibe quite where Iowa sits with him.

Anyhow, Iowa's DE recruiting is pretty interesting because it's definitely a significant need. We're going to be graduating Binns, Daniel, and Forgy from the depth chart after the '11 season ... and we're going to be needing guys to enter the picture to fill the voids on the depth chart.

Excellent. My knowledge of Hawkeye DE recruiting has taken a leap forward. I'm hoping Coe will be with us in 2012 and at DE, but that's a number of speculative steps to get there.

So is he not a solid commit or what?

Looking at the Michigan Scout website, they are saying him and Terry Richardson are taking visits together. I think it's more along the lines of seeing whats out there and not being on their dime.

We like this a lot. Although, it's almost a given he ends up at Michigan.

While I agree they're the favorite, I believe they already have 5 or 6 OL verabls this class. I gotta think the longer he holds off his commitment the better for us. If he was set on Michigan he'd sign now.
