Too soon? Iowa Bowl Projection

Yah, no claims on how the they impact a record the following year. You have a lot of teams that go to bowls. And, there's so much roster turnover year to year

All's I know is that it absolutely has to have an impact on some of the younger players.

Right, I never mentioned record (which is impossible to prove) and neither did you.

Yes or No, do practices help players get better?

Yes....and no.
It depends on the kind of practice. If it is mindful, then yes.

Golfers don't get better by going out, hitting 18 and comparing their score from the day before.

They go out and hit a bucket from 100 yards from a downhill lie in the rough. Then a bucket from a downhill lie in the rough from 90 yards. Then 80. Then 75. Then they putt for 3 hours.

And they will only get better if they are constantly evaluating and adjusting each swing.

There is no such thing as talent.

Talent requires access to instruction, desire to excel at a given skill, and repetitive mindful practice....10,000 hours of it, some say.

So yeah. Additional practice, with good coaches....should deliver.

I'm a semi industrial musician. I'm not a professional. Sometimes I get paid. I lead a band that competes regularly in music contests.

Supervised practice is almost a guaranteed way to get better.

Coaches can say what they want but there is no statistical proof that it's true. If there was really any proof the extra practices help, you would have to give the extra practices to non-bowl teams too othewise it’s a clear competative advantage.
Total over simplification.

There are WAY too many things that go into a teams follow up W/L record to even begin using extra practices as a measure of it.

You have players leaving/being added. Roster is totally different from year to year.

There are coaching changes.

Every schedule is easier/more difficult than the previous. Would you really compare records of one year to the next when one year we play say, Michigan and OSU plus Wisconsin on the road vs a year we play neither OSU or Michigan and Wisconsin at home? Come on.

It’s pretty well-established that more practice time makes players better in a sport. You know that looking at a teams record the following year as a sole measure of practice effectiveness is a pretty weak take.

That's a myth. Bowl practice has no effect on the team's record the following year. Don't believe me? Look up Iowa's record the year after they miss a bowl compared to the record they had the year before when they missed a bowl. Iowa's record always gets better the year after they miss a bowl.
Could be the smallest sized sample in the history of football!

I could see 7-5 and a bowl playing ateam that has complementary weakness where Iowa can roll and dominate and have fun

On 247 they have Iowa vs. Miami (Ohio) in the Quick Lane Bowl. Tickets will start at $800.

Wait, I think I forgot a decimal.

I read this as well, it has to be a joke.....right? The only way I could ever see Iowa going to the Quick Lane is if Iowa finished with 5 wins and there were not enough 6 win teams to fill the bowl slots (which is what the Clowns are hoping for). IMO any Iowa team that gets to 6 wins will not get passed over enough times to wind up in Detroit.

There is a bowl game in Arizona called the Arizona Bowl which is played in Tucson. But it matches a MAC team against a Mountain West and assuming they have enough teams Iowa won't be going there.

The B1G does have a tie in with the Guaranteed Rate Bowl which used to be the Insight Bowl and a few other names. The other conference tie in is the B1g 12. It is played at the baseball stadium in downtown Phoenix now. It used to be played at Sun Devil Stadium but when Sun Devil underwent a renovation the game got moved. It may go back someday but don't know if or when.

How about an Iowa/Iowa St rematch to see if we can't get paybacks for that fumble on the 3 inch line, that would be a fun game, therefore, it won't happen............

Thank you, I knew there was a bowl somewhere in Arizona with a Big Ten tie-in. I just didn't feel like looking up what is called now. It's just one of my rules, if a bowl keeps changing its name, I ain't gonna bother remembering the name of it. But to avoid confusion, I will start calling it the Guarunteed Rate Bowl (somewhere in Arizona)
