Too soon? Iowa Bowl Projection

That's the spirit! Yeah, Iowa is still technically in play for the Rose Bowl.

Holy shit, could you imagine? I mean if Iowa did somehow upset Michigan or OSU there would be plenty of Hawk fans buying up tickets. That would mean extensions for the entire coaching staff I'm sure.

"Welcome to the 109th Rose Bowl game. This year's matchup is expected by many experts to have fewer yards than the WWII era Rose Bowl games because it features the lowest ranked offense of a team to ever make the Rose Bowl in Iowa and of course Oregon has had 9 offensive starters opt out for the game. The over under for the game is a paltry 17.5 so Vegas sure isn't expecting much offense, either."

My god, if there was ever a year for Kirk to pull an absolute rabbit it is this year. "I CANNOT FIRE THE OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR WHO WON THE CONFERENCE AND THE ROSE BOWL!"

I thought I heard that very same OC won 10 games last year.

I wouldn't rule out the Rose Bowl just yet. For that to happen we just need to win our next three and have Illinois lose at Michigan. Imagine if Stroud got his ankle rolled on the first play or some shit and we beat Ohio 10-9. There would be like 50 people at the Rose Bowl.
Would you rather play Ohio State or Michigan? I was chatting about it with friends. The Stroud example is a good one, because Michigan has two experienced QBs. And per your point, the potential of the complexion of the game changing on a single play would be the most likely by the Iowa D knocking a QB out (which isn't all that uncommon).

Obviously the Hawks would be huge underdogs against either opponent, but I think there would be a legit albeit narrow path to victory. I think the path is slightly wider than it was a month ago due to DeJean returning kicks. If the Hawks were able to get one or two long interception or punt returns to give them really short fields - and this part is key, they'd need to happen early in the game - you could see the Hawks hanging around until the 4th quarter. At that point, anything is possible.

I also think the D line getting healthier and adding depth (legit 8 deep now?) is also huge for a match-up like this. Because they'd be on the field a ton.

Penn State has a better W/L record, a largerr fan base and greater national brand. Penn State will go to the Rose bowl before Iowa does.
Hmmm... obviously they were suggesting Iowa would win the divsion and then pull a huge upset to win the CCG to automatically qualify for the Rose Bowl as the official Big Ten Conference champion.

But now you got me wondering if there is any other way Iowa could make the Rose Bowl. What about this?

Iowa wins final 2 games finishes 8-4, wins division
PSU loses its final 2 games, finishes 8-4
ILL, Purdue, Minn also finish 8-4

Iowa then loses CCG, Iowa is now 8-5
Mich and OSU both make the CFP final 4.

Then who goes to the Rose Bowl as the Big Ten team? My guess is if the CCG was close, like Iowa loses by less than 10, Iowa goes. If Iowa gets blown out AGAIN, then PSU still goes.

Iowa is Andrew in the line of succession for the Rose Bowl.

Penn State losing to Rutgers and Michigan State might be a stretch.

I'll give all takers +20000 that Iowa makes the Rose Bowl :)

Draft Kings has +5000 for the Hawks to win the CCG; my offer is a STEAL.

Deposits due by midnight.

So if I put a dollar on that you'll pay me $20K if Iowa winds up in the Rose Bowl???

I have to admit I'm tempted. :)

Nope, plus odds means you have to put $100 down to get that amount. If you bet $1 you’d win $200

Vegas loves you ;)
Not really, I lose $20 and I’m done. I was the guy looking for the $3 black jack table back in the day. I don’t think they have them anymore. I could play all night on $20 and typically walked away with more money than I went in with.

I throw a little money on DraftKings once in a blue moon but I hate casino gambling. Tried it a couple times but couldn't get it to grow on me
