To the true Hawkeye Fans...

The bottom line is that it's super hard to be a good coach, and we have 2 of the best there is.

If people can't see that, it's no one's problem but their own.

To bad people also can't see that when anyone is critical of a situations or voices displeasure in what coach did during a game he still is a fan as well and just goes about releasing his frustration differently. The bottomline is that he is immediately put in a category of not being a fan or a hater..

So you are going to compare the patience and attitudes of fans that had teams going to the NCAA every year and final 8's and such to the last 6-7 years of Iowa basketball.

Lol sir...

However, really fans have always been the same.

Nothing has changed only winning and losing changes which changes fans hearts and perceptions

It's not rocket science.

....which is a very different thing than constantly disparaging a program/coach/supporters when all evidence of an upward swing indicates the contrary. Many, MANY people were blinded by their emotions and lack of objectivity with regard to our football program in the last year and became haters whether they realized it or not.

I see that starting to happen in basketball and it sickens me. I don't know what it is about this fanbase that makes so many "release [their] frustrations differently," but I wish that they would stop. We're in good hands on the gridiron and on the hardwood. The last time we acted on "releasing [our] frustrations differently," we handed a 28-5 rebuild to Drake. DRAKE. I pray that doesn't happen again.

Though...that 28-5 rebuild behaved a lot better while representing the University on the floor...I wouldn't mind so much if we could get someone like that 28-5 rebuild again...

You raise good points, but this unfortunately the nature of fans (especially the subset of fans that take to Interwebz message boards).

As far as Davis goes, in hindsight that was sickening and we should all be a little embarrassed...but at the same time, so much of that hindsight has been colored by the Alford/Lickliter debacle. At the time of Mr. Davis's "departure", Alford looked shiny & new and carried the promise of routine Sweet 16 runs. Granted, I was young & stupid at the time and a small part of me could sense what was happening to Davis was wrong, but I was already mentally hanging the Final Four banners @ Carver.

Most Hawkeye sports fans aren't diehard Hawkeye fans because a diehard fan would love the Iowa sports program unconditionally.

Instead of being a diehard fan:

Maybe they love the program more if KOK is gone.
Maybe they love the program and other Hawk fans more if Mr. Davis stays.
Maybe they love other Hawk fans more if they stop picking on Ferentz so much.
Maybe they accept mediocrity.
Maybe they demand excellence.

Another point. Considering the high expectations of today's Iowa basketaball fan, what do you think would've been the expectations of Iowa basketball fans at the end of Mr. Davis's coaching at Iowa - considering great results the first few years (leading to high expectations) and very little for close to 10 years afterward?

Are some Iowa fans trying to say it should be a desired goal to be a top 50 basketball program as with Mr. Davis? A top 50 football program as with Ferentz?

They aren't trolls. Some of them are level-headed regular posters in this here basketball forum; and they shredded the football team for 10 months. I could call them out by name, but they know who they are.

We are a passionate fanbase, but not especially loyal nor patient. If that were true, Tom Davis would have rebuilt us to a 5 seed in the '08 tournament instead of freakin' Drake.

I know you and tom were buds back on the Oregon trail but its been 14 years man, good grief give it a rest. #LIG

We are certainly all entitled to our opinion, so here's mine: I really disagree with you. The fans on this board have gotten progressively more bizarre over the past several years. Sure, fans have always been passionate and critical, but some of the message board tro...,er, posters here (in football and basketball) have been nothing short of idiotic.

KF is a good coach. Fran is a good coach. I'm disappointed that Iowa has dropped three straight, but it's a very long season, and it isn't over yet.

I won't be at all surprised if Iowa makes two significant tourney runs, and the board flips to the manic side again on the message board mental health continuum.

Mr. Davis was a good coach and I am sure that he could have won a Big10 title had we kept him during that stretch of the WEAK BIG. That's what made the Alford hire all the more frustrating. Lick was over his head. Fran has us on the cusp of the NCAA in 4 short years.Remarkable if you consider the shambles Lick left it in and the strength of our conference today.

The first sentence of this post hits the nail on the head! Those who want to show Fran the door because of a 3 game loosing streak are simply out of touch. Here is a good example, for those with a short memory the Wisconsin Badgers recently had a 5 game conference loosing streak and are now in second place in the Big 10 with Illinois beating Mich St yesturday. This is the nature of the Big 10 now because of the quality of coaching from top to bottom in this league. Fran and staff will make the needed corrections and close out the season strong. Keep the faith, this program is in good hands. GO HAWKS BEAT PURDUE!

Would not have even needed to rebuild, if I am not mistaken I believe TD had Nick Collison coming to Iowa until it was decided TD's contract was not going to be renewed.

Technology allows fans to be more vocal and think their voice matters. That is all that has changed. That goes for those that are negative, positive, and my least favorite, whiny.

I hear this a lot - that Mr. Davis had essentially BJ, Marble and Horton and then...10 years of mediocrity.

The truth is that in Davis' final ten years we went to six NCAA tournaments, finished in the top 5 of the conference seven times, in the top-3 three times and had an above .500 tournament record.

We weren't awful, and were national players in '93, '96, and '99 - years in which we were ranked basically wire-to-wire.

I remember being critical of Troy Skinner. Does that make me less of a fan? Fans would have lit up the message bd if it existed then!

I like how the font in the OP is the same as the font in the books made for old people that you see at the library. No doubt this dude is at least 80.

I am one of the few true Hawkeye Fans left, I have never been critical of the team, I stuck with them. I am glad to support the team and help them to win games like today. WE'RE BACK!
