The Three Players Iowa Can Least Afford To Lose

I get what your saying. He'll be asked to handle the ball more for sure. JBo can't do all of it. So how he does in that regard will be big. And yeah he doesn't have to be a 15 pt guy every night for this team to be great. But he'll certainly have his good games where he will and then some. Shot selection and as you said forcing things just won't be necessary with him or the group. We should be able to get a good look against most everyone most of the time

He needs to be able to drain open 3s to take some of the defensive pressure off of JBo and be a threat to take it to the rim to allow feeds inside. But his mpg will be most dependent on his D. He needs to be the lock down guard creating some of his scoring w defense. He doesn't need to be Jok even Jok as a Soph.

He can take what's given to him rather than be a guy like Jok/JU/AW/RDM in successive years past that effectively made their O. This team is balanced enough, they can take what's given. That may make it appear that Moss "disappears" but if he is effective on D that's OK.

I think he'll play a lot regardless of that even though I agree he and the entire teams effort on D has to be better. Your not going to put Ellingson in over him for defensive reasons... Maybe Williams can play some SG too but he'll have to back up JBo first and foremost. Overall Moss is just the better option over both of them so he'll be in there a ton

Excellent point.

Hopefully, by maturing he won't let his O effect his D. There were times last year when his shot wasn't falling that he let it affect his D and that's partly why he got pulled. He has the ability to be one of Iowa's best defenders. That will keep him in the floor.

perhaps Williams will have a break out year...
He's certainly athletic enough. If he can get some confidence in his jumper even if it's just 15 footers and free throws he could be pretty effective. I'd love to see it because he'll need to play some at both backing up JBo and Moss sometimes.

Hopefully, he will be a force this year. These guys put in hours upon hours of practice. I don't think he will be a liability offensively. Hopefully, he will be like Woodbury in his free throw shooing. Woodbury was pretty good his junior and senior years. Wagner will be a lot better than Woodbury offensively. Iowa will have a lot of guys that can score, so there shouldn't be much pressure on them offensively. You could see Woodbury felt the pressure in games.

Looking back to darker days, during the Lickliter era when you would have a discussion about which player Iowa could least afford to lose, you could count on that particular player transferring.

This is the weirdest contribution I've even seen from JM. He's setting up a paradigm that our season can be tanked with injuries?? Why? The team is extremely deep.

For me Bohannon is the one we can not afford to lose with Cook a distant 2nd, Baer would be my 3rd and he's not far behind Cook. Maybe I'll feel differently about Moss once the season starts but he didn't show us enough last year to be deemed #1 on this list.

Duh, everyone knows it's Bohannon. And when can we lose the phrase "...and it's not even close"?
It is the most annoying phrase used on social media and message boards and it's not even close.
At the end of the day, the most annoying phrase to me is "Dink and Dunk", and it's not even close

JB came to my mind right away as #1 because I remember arguing his impressive stats in the "Iowa doesn't have a true point guard or penetrating PG" threads last winter. IN his last 13 games, the consistency stuck out at me. He alone is a player that can make up Jok's points. A PG that can make up Jok's points and consistently hit the 3 to pull the defense out.

Look at the production lost if he gets injured. He's definitely the one on the team that would be the most difficult to fill. There is depth behind Cook an the 4 and 5 positions. It is pretty thin at PG.
