Sure is quiet on here...

We beat a bad team it doesn't matter. If we lose to a bad team it shows how bad we are.

We lose to a good team by a few points like at Michigan St. and it doesn't matter because we didn't win. If we lose by 20 it shows how bad we are. If we would have managed to win, it would have been a fluke, and Michigan St. overlooked us.

Is that about correct? I mean seriously it is odd when people on this board want to give NO credit to a team at all. I feel like I am in Bizzaro world in the BB forum, it is surreal....I like the football forum much more. I like it when barely beat a team like UNI it really doesn't mean anything we are still good. Or if we beat Arkansas St. by 3 points, we are still a good team, we "gave" them points with pick 6's. I like it when the fans stick up for our Hawkeyes, not put them down. Call me weird or something.....

Iowa wins - crickets?

Because Iowa is supposed to win. Iowa should be expected to win. It shouldn't be news when Iowa wins.

Negative Nellies are fans whose expectations for this team, this year, are not realistic at this point in time.

Fixed that for you.

After the Indiana game, didn't the "Suck it haters" contingent come out? Didn't we crush a bottom tier Big 10 team, then come here and talk about how good we look now, and he impressive the young players are, and how bright the future is?

Then what happened?

A few horrible losses, the team looked horrible, there was not hope, we were auditioning new coaches left and right, and frankly, it was miserable to be around here (or funny, depending on your point of view).

What are we going to do now? Is the process going to repeat itself...AGAIN? Is this board going to be General Spank leading the "Suck it haters" brigade to "Lick is gonna turn us around-ville", only to have us inevitably get crushed again, only to bring the haters out in even fuller force?

Since I don't have a dog in the fans vs. haters brawl, and am simply an amused observer of human behavior, I have this to say to the "Suck it haters"...

The haters have already won. Stop provoking them. You are free to spread as much optimism as you wish, but stop calling them out, because, while they are in their holes now, they breed, and when they emerge, they will be even more numerous, and more vicious.

This is spot on. They are in their holes waiting to pounce after Purdue destroys us on Saturday. Its going to get ugly on this board around 6 pm on saturday

Negative Nellies are true fans who expect more from this program.

That sounds an awful lot like the jaded attitudes that fans of great sports programs have. If they win, no big deal, we're supposed to win. When we lose, it's an outrage. I don't think that "true fans" are jaded.

Somewhere beneath the pomposity and the bluster there's a nugget of common sense in there. ;-)

Some of what he said is true. Its not like one win changes much at this point. What I got from that game is that if we can shot 50% from three we could be dangerous but I don't think thats to realistic.

HawkIreign ... don't even attempt to argue with Storminspank or ShadasRevenge when it comes to Iowa basketball .. Afterall, each one of them has posted more than 1,000 messages on these boards and you can bet 999 of them are about how the program is headed in the right direction ... Blah .. blah ... Just easier to ignore them ... They must have an awful lot of free time on their hands to post that many messages ... So just ignore then like most do ...

That funny part to me is that it seems like you guys are begging the Lick haters to rip on him right now. In all honesty its hard to find something to rip on after the game they just played but give him time. If history tells me anything I'll have a valid reason to rip on him again in a couple days.

Not the point. Iowa flat out kicked the **** out of NW last night, but some people can't wait to poo-poo it.

We're poo-poo'ing it because it's yet to be determined if they can consistently do that. Seems like every good win or good loss (Ohio State at home) is followed by abysmal losses (at Michigan) by this group.

In thinking about the game today and after watching the DVR, it is clear to me that Lickliter completely schooled "the little professor". Everyone thinks Carmody is some sort of bb genius but he got his 1-3-1 handed to him last night and he knew it. Sure Iowa played hard and played well, but they mostly always play hard. Last night was no different. I liked the rotation and I liked the gameplan. I am always proud to be a Hawkeye and especially so last night. It felt good walking out of CHA.

You're right, it does seem like that. The reality of it is that the Michigan game appears to have been an anomaly, not the beginning of a trend.

If they hold close with Purdue, that at least gives me some hope that he actually might be moving this team in the right direction similar to KF and the end of the 3-9 (I think) season.

Its cool, we have a diff of opinion and they think they're right just like I do. In all honesty I hope they're right and Lick gets this thing headed in the right direction ASAP but I don't think its going to happen if they give him 10 years.

If Lickliter is here for 10 years, I think it's a safe bet that he's turned it around. Say what you want about Barta, but Lickliter won't be here after next season if the team doesn't show improvement in the W/L column next year.

I don't prescribe to the "us" against "them" theory. There are some people who won't post when Iowa wins and only frequent the boards to rip on the Hawkeyes.

That's why this post was made. Last night, it was frequented by guys on the board that I expected to reply to it. Those that post after a win. There is a faction that only post after a loss.

This post showed that a little bit. People can label me an "apologist" or whatever. All I know is I watched Iowa basketball and I like to talk Iowa basketball good or bad. I haven't necessarily been rose-coloring this team throughout the year (preseason absolutely, but people make mistakes, I made mistakes preseason). I've tried to be as honest about the team as I can be. If there are people who want to make it an "us" against "them" type of thing, then fine. But as I said, the thread was started as a statement that after the Iowa win, the boards were pretty quiet... which seems to be the norm... which sort of perturbs me... It wasn't made to declare war on one side or another because I don't believe in that stuff. It was a general observation on the behavior of the boards. It might come off hypocritical, and probably is, but it's just something I wanted to bring up - right or wrong.

As I have stated in other posts - Iowa hasn't turned the corner and I haven't said that at all this year. We won't know where Iowa is until mid-season next year. I think some people get way too high after a win and some that get way too low after a loss... esp for this year's squad.

That's debatable. I just crunched the numbers, and in Iowa's 9 Big 10 losses, they have lost by an average of 11.666(I will round to 12).

If Iowa loses its Big 10 games by an average of 12, then the 14 point loss at Michigan is not an anomoly. On my statistical probability distribution graph, that would put the Michigan game right towards the middle.

You want an anomaly, how about while Iowa loses its Big 10 games by an average of 12, they win their games by an avarage of 10.

Let's look at these numbers even further. In Iowa's Big 10 games(wins and losses), they are averaging 58 points a game (rounded to nearest one). Their opponents, however, are averaging 71 points per game.

So on average, Iowa is getting outscored by 13 points in Big 10 play. That does not make the Michigan game an anomaly. It does, however, make the IU and NW games large anomalies. The NW game was 26 points away from the mean result, and the IU game was 28 points away from the mean results.

Your numbers make no sense. It's impossible for Iowa's overall point differential to be more per game than it is in losses alone. Better rerun those numbers.
