Sunday Session III

If we would move our feet more and push the pace, stalling would be called. but when we are not pushing the pace, it is not going to be called. Example, look at how active Taylor was when evans had the legs in on top and look how inactive evans was when taylor was on top.

Spot on. Force the ref to call it, Iowa certainly didnt.

Sometimes i feel we lack leadership in the wrestling room not from the coaches but from upper classmen. I heard coach Tom on 1700 the Champ a few weeks ago eluding to that point. That might be one reason we just don't see our guys wrestling with that old pressure style wrestling that we used to see our wrestlers do.

Two things we're not seeing from Iowa wrestling right now that used to define our style:
  1. Always look to score. Winning used to not be enough, it was about dominating and whether down 2 or up 12 there was only one right approach...attack and score. A lot of guys seem to be wrestling like they're trying to escape with a win instead of flat out taking the match away from the other guy. Brands talks a lot about getting more aggressive, but it's just not showing on the mat.
  2. Winning in wrestle backs. If a wrestler lost they didn't sulk and lose interest...they got pi**ed off and came out looking to destroy whoever was in front of them whether wrestling for 1st or 5th.
Anyone have thoughts on what we're missing right now?

Agree with you 100%

MM and Evans both exemplified your points, half shots timid wrestling. Bad showing today.

The one thing I noticed, especially at 133 and 141 was no reshots. Ramos could have had Steiber a couple of times with some reshots after his intial setup.
