Soooo....Anti-Ferentz crowd

Iowa had a tough run in recent bowl competition. But looking back, this is the first win since LSU and "The Catch" where I felt like we had a win against what is the traditional recruiting centers of gravity. Not even a win this time, a big time stomping.

That win in 2009 against South Carolina was a big one. South Carolina always has a top 20-top 15 recruiting class.

You do realize iowa was favored in this game....correct? Helton has been under fire at USC all year and they haven’t been relevant in years. Quit acting like this was a win over a real USC team because it wasn’t. A great performance indeed but just like the South Carolina win, the BC win and S Carolina, not wins over top shelf teams. And thinking recruiting ground is going to open all of a sudden or that ferentz is even interested in that then you simply haven’t been paying attention

Just as I predicted. Just more evidence that you’re a clown fan. Only an idiot would come on here to down grade this win.

For those saying this was a poor USC team, while Vegas had us as slight favorites, all of the so-called college experts picked USC. Every College Game Day guy and both USC homers (no surprise) on FoxSports1. The perception was that this USC was clicking well enough to take care of Iowa.

Stop raining on what was a GREAT bowl win. We could win a national title and some on here would complain about the play calling.

I'm on record as saying Kirk is fine as long as Iowa finishes in the top 25 every year and wins 9 games a year while we play the cupcake OOC schedule.

I'm not ok with everything he does. The nepotism put a bad taste in my mouth. The tendency to turtle with a lead in the 4th quarter. The short side stretch.

Next year, new QB and probably losing several generational talents in Stone, Stanley, Jackson, Wirfs, and Epenesa. Guard play still not up to snuff, and two new tackles. Tough schedule, too. I think 7 - 5 isn't out of the question.

The QB is always the most important position on the field, can lift everyone to great success. Perhaps we will all be surprised!

Maybe. But Petras didn't impress in garbage time this year. Hope he got plenty of reps with the ones in bowl prep.

Hopefully, whoever gets the minutes, will have a competent O-line to learn behind. That is the key to accuracy and greatness.

You're an idiot pal. 2 point favorite is hardly a favorite and anyone who knows anything about odds knows the wiseguys set the odds to get even money betting...many times they know exactly where to set that line. It was a win over a real team you dolt. While it wasn't a Pete Carroll USC team or John Robinson USC team Helton's teams have been far from horrible like Paul Hackett USC teams. Virtually every pundit spouting off out there predicted USC's speed would dominate Iowa..didn't happen as a matter of fact if Nate makes those 2 throws to keep drives alive and Smith catches Ihmir's pass this thing is a 63-24 game. USC was playing with more emotion they just got bullied last night by a better team. Our recruiting class this year is 25-28 ranked that's significantly up from normal KF classes. Go get a clue.

If you look at my posts going back many years ago, you will see posts I'm ashamed of. I was a grumbler. It just took me a few years to recognize that Ferentz was giving us exactly what Hayden gave us, and what outside of only a handful of so-called "elite" schools would dream to have.

I hope that we appreciate him as we do Hayden.

And if his son continues to call games like he did last night, I will stop grumbling about him.

You completely whiff at the point

And per usual you don't have a point. Iowa is 9-8 in bowl games, and have played 13 top 25 teams of those 17 bowl games. Iowa plays very tough competition in bowl games, and has a winning record doing so.

WINS:

LSU #12
Florida #17
USC #22
South Carolina
Missouri #14
Georgia Tech #9
Texas Tech
Boston College
Mississippi St. #18

LOSSES:

USC #5
Texas #18
Florida #16
Oklahoma #19
LSU #14
Tennessee
Stanford #5
Florida #20

Wow. So, teams should win all of their bowl games against opponents of similar strength? Gotta love the ignorant.

Why don't all NFL teams win 12 games?

PS--Iowa has won three bowl games in a row. Some people are just negative in the face of obvious success.

Yes after losing 5 straight by an average of 18 points.

In the same time frame Wiscy is 11-8 and probably will be 12-8. But as we know, we dont compare to Wiscy, that program is way better.

But your right, 9-9 is fantastic. Keep on keepin on you lovers of mediocrity. Nothing better than being a 500 team.

Ojemudia could have had a pick 6 early....should have had it, even more points to your point

They are 9-8, and yeah Wisconsin is clearly better than Iowa, they are a top 5 team in the NCAA over the last 5-10 years.

The same old boring ass narrative that is always over played. Lmao

I am far from happy with kirk's idea of how to win conference games and he and his staff own many of those close losses. 6-3 in conference play and 10-3 is hardly mediocre go ask Scott Frost. Yes we probably should've been playing in the Big Ten Championship game this year perhaps with fewer OL injuries and Welch being gone for 3 or 4 games and better coaching we would've. Wisconsin if you think wins by 2 points is WAY better that's your opinion....you'd be wrong but like assholes everyone has an opinion.

Don't know what your insuinating with this one. Many coaches have bowl records a lot worse that .500. Check out Bo Schembechler or Bear Bryant's bowl records some time.

Until they implement a bull blown sixteen or even thirty two team college football postseason tournament, and they will someday, it's impossible to truly grade postseason performance. The college bowl season is still unique in sports. Take three or four weeks off, then play one last game.

That's going to change. If the smaller divisions can navigate around final exams, the big schools can do it. And the playoff will quickly create memories and drama that will quickly supercede the tradition of even the major bowl games as we have known them.
