So let me get this straight...Tucker has a drinking problem now? Come on people!

A college kid gets picked up for public intox twice in one year and he has a drinking problem? Boy am I glad that you all weren't posting about me when I was in college. I got picked up for 3 minor in possessions and don't have a drinking problem now.

Let's please not overdue this. Anthony Tucker does not have a drinking problem, he is a college student. More than half of my friends in college either got MIP's or public intox.

If he is taking care of his business in the classroom, and isn't stealing credit cards or assaulting people, then this gets filed under acting like a college student, not having a drinking problem.

Should he be kicked off the team? That depends ONLY IF when he was reinstated last year he was given some sort of ultimatum about future actions. If he was not, than no he should not be kicked off the team.

I recall that James Ferentz has been picked up on two alcohol related offenses and no one was clamoring for him to be kicked off the team.

Oh, so I get it. Ferentz is just so classy and he is a winner. Lick always looks like he is whining and hasn't won a game of Parcheesi so now we hear things like this offense is on LIck or kick this guy off the team?

How hypocritical Hawkeyes.

I am not a Lickliter fan or critic, I am a Lickliter indifferent. But let's at least play with an even field when it comes to all of our high profile student athletes, mmmmmmk?

Things like this get blown way out of proportion.

I'm not saying I condone drinking during the season, I don't. However, some people act as if college students drinking is a felony.

It's pretty evident he has a problem. His PI last year was a result of him being passed out in an alleyway. I don't care how old you are, if you are drinking to the point you are passing out drunk in an alleyway it's a pretty good indication of a drinking problem. Now he gets a second in the course of 1 year? I'd say it's more than likely he has now, or is working his way toward a serious problem.

That being said lets hope he gets himself right.

Yes this is the second time in a year for him, but just because someone doesn't always get in trouble with the law doesn't mean they don't have a drinking problem.

Tucker has a D 1 scholarship to play basketball and he's decided that drinking is as big of, or a bigger priority that that scholarship. I don't know the kid so I won't say he has a drinking problem, it's not my business but there is a definite red flag in the choices he has made.

Dude, where do you live? Minnesaota? I manage a bar in downtown Iowa City and everyone talks about what a drunk Tucker is. He's down in the bars all the time and he's wasted.Do many college kids get a PI? Yes. Do most of them has as much to lose and Tucker? No. Tucker gets drunk all the time. He's a D1 basketball player not some fat frat boy. Tucker screwed his coach and his teammates and he is leaving.

Making excuses for this kid is not going to help him.

You are missing my point, I am simply saying message board posters get all up on college kids for drinking when the majority of college kids go just that.

Again, do I think drinking in-season is something that should be happening? No.

But we are talking about underage drinking here, not DUI, sexual assault, burglary, etc... that's all I am saying.

He's a college kid and a great majority of them drink. He might not be the smartest about how he handles himself in public since he's a hoops player and in the public eye, but to say he has a drinking problem is pretty stupid.

So if you are so concerned about him, why do you let him in your bar?

One of the worst posts on here ever. It makes zero sense.

Tucker is flat out not smart. Who knows if he has a drinking problem, it really doesnt matter for this discussion. He now has let he team and staff down twice, three times if you count him pulling off a rouhgly 1.0 GPA last fall. The kid is a mess and he is done at Iowa now.

Agree.

What does that tattoo on his arm say? Can he not read it? Maybe he should have placed it on his forehead??

How many of us drank while going to college? If you say you didn't, then you are either a liar, or you really kept to yourself during those 4+ years. The vast majority of us attended parties, or had a few drinks with the buddies in the old dorm room from time to time. Friday and/or Saturday night.

The question is - what did Anthony do behind closed doors, on a day to day basis? If he was drinking every day, then maybe he has a problem. But that's not info that I'm privvy to.

That's the thing, if you would have been kicked out of school and cut off financially for getting busted for drinking, I bet you would have made different choices. The average student doesn't have the same consequences as a full-ride scholarship athlete. If you are willing to risk all that, then he truly is stupid.

No one's saying that. He needs to not be on the team. You don't have to commit sexual assault to have done something deserving of being booted. Putting your team in a situation like this, where they can't count on you? That's deserving. If they can't count on you, whats the purpose of keeping him on the team?

A College Kid who has a FULL RIDE to the University of Iowa to play Basketball. A College Kid who has had 2 Public Intox in his short time at Iowa but was suspended for much of last year for Academics.

Whether Tucker has a drinking problem or not, is not for us to debate. What there is no debate about is his decision making "problem". If he's going to drink he needs to know better than to put himself into a position where he's going to get in trouble.

I spent 6 years in college, yes that's right 6 years for a 4 year degree. :) My major problem was drinking too often, however I was never cited for public intox, nor any other drinking violation. I realize some folks are just unlucky and maybe this is the case, but sound decision making whether sober or drunk usually keeps you out of trouble.
