Sally Mason Retiring

Great news

I would be curious as to why people think she is hurting the football program or sports in general. Since you feel this is good news, Jon, and you are probably one of the best informed/connected people on this thread, can you explain it to me?

Maybe she is a problem. But if she is, I am currently unaware of it.

This is great news today. I would like to think they were fed up with her as well.

Iowa is just ok academically and not good athletically. As what others have said on here, I hope the regents get this right and find someone who understands the importance of athletics as well as academics.

I won't hold my breath though on the regents either.

Can you provide some information or data about your assertion that "Iowa is just ok academically"?

Iowa ranks pretty well in many areas when compared to other public universities, especially in health care fields.

Sure. Of national universities only, Iowa ranks 71st overall. Again, this only includes National University's, not all colleges. I'd agree Iowa is good on the medical front, but overall a ranking of 71st is just average.

Tell us more about academic awesomeness.

Poke fun at his spelling all you want, but he's not wrong. Iowa is an average university, overall. The med/nursing school and English department are both very strong, as well as the law school. Most everything else is just okay.

Should never post from my IPhone I guess. If that's all you have though, no big deal.

If you live in Iowa, the U of I is highly thought of I suppose. Living outside of Iowa not so much. Sorry to ruin your day, but Iowa is very average academically and even worse athletically on a national scale. As an Iowa native and fan for approximately 39 years it pains me to write that. Fortunately it wasn't always this way. However, a house cleaning is in order and Mason retiring is a step in the right direction.

No, it has nothing to do with Jon and more that Tweeter is ignorant to the fact that a college president has a hell of a lot to do with the success of the University and the Athletic's Department as a whole.

That said there are far bigger problems with the University than Athletics that the next president needs to tackle, a lot of those issues if fixed correctly will not only help the University but will also help the Athletic Department.

Who are the slobbering morons who downvoted this statement?

The TweeterHawk brigade. They were enjoying their tea when Sally Mason announced she was stepping down......

Now they are having Paul Rhoads like hissy fit on the board and downvoting anyone who dare to speak ill of the revered Sally Mason.

Here is the DSM registers 2 cents on it.... Not much of anything sports related with this. But needless to say she had her negatives. And this University is less transparent then Obama for crying out loud. So you can see how that culture of Fort Kinnick can be the way it is. It's encouraged/enabled from the top. It's a trickle down deal where they all want to shut out the public at a public university... Used 200k of public money for the search when they hired her... Who knows how much they'll blow this time....

Like her, or hate her, calling her a PC type of person is beyond laughable.

I'd disagree about your statement. Not talking politics here, but look no further then Washington D.C. There all all kinds of politically correct people there and the PR nightmares can be seen and heard on a daily basis. And I'm talking ALL politicians in general.

All I'm saying is I hope they hire someone with a little bit of an edge to them and who's not afraid to be more transparent.
