Rumors Swirling: BF is done.

I love that she emphasized that this is not her normal role (firing assistants), but I think everyone sees this was a very unique situation she inherited, and she dealt with it.

Remove the interim tag please.....

She's gonna get hired by Texas or Michigan or someone who can pay her 3x what Iowa does in about 6 months after the ink is dry so don't get too attached.

I think you're kidding, but what is any outside coach going to do coming in mid season with the same roster? People who think some interim coach is gunna come in and change everything or tear it up this season are dreaming. It's going to take some time and adjustment with recruits.

Best thing with a developmental team like Iowa is to prob play out the season the best you can, maybe add a few wrinkles if the roster allows. With Iowa's roster and play style, there aren't a lot of options currently.

The offense would be even worse without Brian this year. I don't think the average fan realizes just how bad the line is and how deficient we are at every offensive position outside of tailback right now.

BF staying through the bowl game, but won't be back on staff next year. No quote from KF. Wow, things could get icy.....
Yeah that wasn't any sort of joint announcement at all that was 100% her. She said she informed BF he wasn't coming back. So that answers some of our questions about how this went down. Come to find out the AD can unilaterally make that call....

To not see BF and KF be a part of any such announcement is telling and the next statement from KF will be waited on by baited breath.

It won't be much of a statement. Kirk will dodge it and just say it's a decision the athletic director [donors] did.

Agree. That is why their really only option is to the season play out having them know what they have been coached up to do. Installing a bunch of new stuff just isn't going to work at this point.

I totally agree with what you state.

I am yes. Mostly because of the impossibility of it happening. But by no means would I be against Long being OC. He's plenty qualified for it and he could develop QBs

Yeah Woods won't/can't be propped up to OC. It wouldn't be the answer for one thing but for another he's not qualified for it anymore then Brian was and that's partially why we are here.

I would be all about Woods being the next HC. But having him named the HC in waiting I'm not as sure about. I mean are we talking for next yr with KF stepping down sooner than later? Then great. But the open ended 2-3 yrs down the road thing I'm not so sure about. Things change and I'm just as sure about the impact and how that goes over with recruits etc etc. I'd rather have Woods then not so I guess if end of the day that's what it takes to keep him as well I'd be for it. But I guess I'd just have some reservations about it not that I have any about him
I think the smart move would be to leave Woods right where he is.

Wow, one statement that really stuck out to me is her stating that this is his last season with the program. She didn't infer there was any chance of him being retained at a different position.
I read into that as a result of how those 'conversations' went. Being a fly on the wall of all that woulda been wild

In my opinion they need to do it effective immediately. It isn't going to be a good dynamic with a dead man walking in charge of half the show. Believe it or not but things can still go south farther than what they already are, and keeping a lame duck around just to smooth things out with Daddy Warbucks isn't going to be good.

What you're doing is telling the team that you care about future recruits (I'm hearing from some people I know personally in the donor world that recruiting is becoming impossible with BF in the seat) but eff the current players and their season right now.

It's very rare that postponing firing someone for sucking at their job turns out well. Even if they get someone temporarily it'll at least help for now.

LeVar needs to be the guy and I've also heard his name thrown around by people way more connected than any of us (with the exception of Rob).
My one concern with LeVar being the OC, is it possible for an OC of KF's to have enough success to be promoted to HC? As you've correctly stated, he's going to be a helluva HC some day, but will the right people be on board with that when the time comes? Right now, he seems to be the hot name from inside or outside of the program (and rightly so). The problem is, you know KF won't allow him to open it up, so would his name cool if the shitstorm only improves from the depths of hell to something that's still below average?

From what the parents of 2 players that I know, the players would make a big push to have him take over because they love him, respect him and know he's the guy they want.

Hopefully there will come a time where him being promoted to HC is a decision that can be made as opposed to him being at another school.

What absolutely blows me away is the fact that Goetz went as far to say that "this is his last season with the program". I like so many just assumed that he'd be demoted to a position coach again but never thought he'd be leaving the program entirely. Blown away.

At this point it sounds like what to do for the rest of 2023 is up to Kirk. If he has a plan to promote somebody internally to OC, like Jon Budmayr or Lavar Woods, Kirk needs to think about when is the best time to do that. Maybe before the bowl game. But knowing Kirk, he won't change anything until Feb.
